2010 Sistahs reunion at Cookies..the memories! #1

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Can't wait to see, Chrissy! Don't know on the price. Haven't done that in YEARS!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Are we having a "Christine Condition" yet?

Crissy, one of those drug stores that reproduce photos from your disk should be cheap. Less wait than your local WM.

Cookie, bet Bill ate all!!! That's so easy to fix ain't it? Did you add mushrooms?

Marion, here's the plaque that Cookie made specially for you and Ross.

I have this to say. Some of you have met me at BJ's. I was 25 pounds lighter then. Since my surgery, I have gained more than 50 pounds.. lost some.. but a never ending battle.
You could say, I was apprehensive as to how you might react upon seeing the current me. I've truly ballooned atrociously.
But you all overlooked what I've become physically and didn't quit at giving me the hugs and affection you've been so generous with.
I have never, never felt so much love in one place.
Thank you sistahs.

How could you not love you???? :o)

Bill and Lanney ate at Applebees, so I had it all to myself. I didn't think it was as good as yours. My meat didn't seem as tender. I missed the snowpea pods (they didn't have them where I got the meat). I used cheap meat. A chuck steak, $3.07. Added extra zuchinni which was good. I didn't have any fresh mushrooms and I thought maybe it would make it too wet if I used those anyway. All in all, not bad and leftovers for today! Not being as good as yours didn't stop me from having seconds.....

Well, Marion knows that I had that plaque made, cause I am not nearly that talented! Now if Betty had been here to guide my hands, maybe. :o)

I'm still looking for Judy's ring. I just don't want to dumpster dive...
Judy, if you're lurking, did you carry the garbage, or the cans? I will go through the cans in a bit...all the way to the bottom of the recycle thingy...just to be sure...

No garage sale this weekend, and July is just packed for me. I worked on more top-dressing yesterday, and it's starting to look pretty good. Bill's family reunion is here on the 24th. People are starting to arrive on the 22nd, and his DB and DSIL will be staying with us until the 27th. Since Joan's sale is on the 24th and 25th, guess my SILs will be having a road trip with me! Entertainment for free! So anyway, I'm hoping to have the rest of the garden in tip top shape. I made labels for my ferns and hostas. I'm short about 25 wire thingys for my Eon Industry nursery labels. Anyone have any extras? I emailed Eon, but I haven't heard back from them. I doubt if they sell just the wires, when they could sell the whole thing for more $$. Sucks...just need the stinkin wires....

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Wish I had some. Sorry.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

(((((((((((Cookie))))))))))))))
Love you dear!
Sorry Eon didn't answer your query.
As for the meat, maybe you didn't let it marinade long enough? I slice them across the grain and real thin. Think I just got lucky with the flavors then!! LOL!!
Nothing wrong with the cheapest cut.. as long as you know what to do with them like your brisket!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

First, Jaye, true friends and sistahs love you for you, not your looks, size or wealth. I didn't notice any change in the pictures--just saw that beautiful face and smile. Oh how I wish I had been there to give you a hug also. It is funny what is suppose to cure us also causes other problems--go figure.

Thanks for posting the picture of the plaque--I had seen it but I never get tired of seeing it again. BTW Cookie, Miracles will be coming soon!!! Make a place. I did have some unfortunately luck with some of my coral balls while I was gone. I had just received some Havanas so I set them under the trees where the canopy was the heaviest--they still go to wet and are looking very sick. I don't know if it is just the Havanas or what but all the others look great. Thank goodness my son stopped every morning and every evening to check on my plants. Of course, he goes by the house on his way to work and then back home.

This week it is my turn to take care of their garden and animals. Good exchange.

Have a wonderful day everyone and a safe and happy 4th. Kim and I are planning on a quiet day (well with the exception of the fireworks over the lake); we will take our traditional spinner for the 4th and happy birthday balloons to the cemetery along with wonderful memories.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Aw, Marion...that's neat. Wish I were going with you. Feel like I knew Ross....

I'll look forward to the Miracles (in more ways than one! as my unemployment is about to come to a dead stop.... :o( ) I did the labels for my ferns, and the labels for my hostas. Next will be labels for the heucheras, if I can get the wires. Still have several hostas that can't be finished till I find some kind of wire. Maybe Eon is just closed for the holiday weekend. I'm going to hope that's it anyway!

I've been spreading manure in the sun, so I came in for a snack and some rest. Think I'll take this canteloupe out to the swing. Later, gators!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear about the unemployment stopping. That is going to hurt a lot of people, as well as the economy!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL Jaye!!! Dave's going to have a Christine Condition if he doesn't find his last brain cell! He's already talking about going to CA, that didn't take long, I've been back, what, 3 days? I told him that his vacation would have to cost less than $400.00 because he's not working and that's what my vacation cost. LOL!!!

Jaye Girl, to know you is to love you, we don't care about physical attributes, that doesn't make the person inside, ((((((((((((((and you are a beautiful person))))))))))))))))

Well, I've been trying to post one picture all morning and it won't do it, might have to wait til I go back to work Tuesday for a faster connection.

Oh Joyce, any chance of an extension on your unemployment?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon all...went to a local community Canada Day streetfest this morning...of course I came home with plants galore..lucky me..to make the day even better stopped into the local material shop, eyed a few cutters for my Accu Quilt..lady had the circle one and was making a church window pattern with them, had I not been with a few ladies I'd have stayed and joined in..now I'm anxious to purchase that die..some material for my Christmas blocks just had to come home with me...

Machine is embroidery as I type..going outside/inside/outside/inside, think the furries are getting tired following me around...just got to get those June Christmas blocks out by Monday morning..

The lady at the nursery twisted my arm to purchase 5 phlox, never saw variegated leaved phlox, still don't think that's what they are but she said I'd be thrilled with them so I'll see; said I'd be back at the festival next year to purchase more...omg they had hosta's $4 & $5 (mature) and just as I was about to say I'd take them all didn't another lady beat me to the punch..I was wearing a sad smile at that point..but I did purchase a few 'turtle plants' she said they'd grow about 2' high and 2' wide with pink and green clusters of flowers which look like turtles, anxious to see those in bloom..also another plant like shrub, she said I'd love it as well..going to have to get the name tags off of them and do some research..

No sooner got home that Lydia/Claus came for a visit..she is a medicine lady..as soon as she saw a tree in bloom which she called lindenbalm (?) she came back with a grocery bag and filled it with the seed pod..said it was a cleanser and great tea..told me to make a pot of it..which I will do, she's in her 80's and looks 60 so whatever she is doing she's doing it right...always looking in my gardens for medice plants..last year she gave me camfrey plant, beautiful flowers but now wants me to go get lard, cut and mix the leaves, add something else (oooh I forgot) and said it was the perfect salve for healing...usually she's picking plantane from my lawn..lovely lady...

Jaye, lordy girl, as if anyone takes notice of size, color, shape etc. - friends we are and it took all my effort to NOT hug you to death....

Joyce, looking over my gardens and thinking of yours, love the way you could sit around your pond, mine is hidden by 4 and 5' plants, different look I was trying to achieve, considered removing all and doing your way but thought better of it...what grows here doesn't grow well there and visa versa so going to enlarge some beds and stick to the english garden...but ohhh so love your gardens...

ooops machine is taking a break, must mean I have to change thread color...gab later

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

It means a lot to me that you liked my gardens. As you all know they're a work in progress...ALWAYS!

Wonder if the plant you got was turtle head. I have hotlips and seedlings GALORE! Ask Sue...Geesh. Mine get about 3 feet tall and the one at the end of the path farthest to the left is getting moved this Fall. It's crowding out the Japanese Maple and the peony that is there. The Coconut Lime echie is getting moved this Fall too. It's shorter than the others planted there, and you can't see it well. It's too pretty to be hidden!

I love my garden phlox. I haven't seen a varigated leaved one. It will surely be on my "wish" list!

My plumeria is opening nicely now. This one is Lei Rainbow, and doesn't seem to have much scent. Wish the other 5 would do something! I'm sure there's some "secret" to getting them to bloom...I just don't know it!

Still shoveling "s**t", if ya know what I mean. Wish I was a jeanie and could just nod my head and have it finished....sigh....oh well, need to work off all those calories I had when you all were here. There were butter tarts and texas sheet cake left....so they didn't go to waste...but they did go to waist!!

Not sure on the unemployment. It's not going to be a pretty picture here for sure when it stops. Guess I'll be checking out Walmart and McDonalds. ANYthing is better than NOthing! Wish I could get a job like Betty's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^_^

Jaye, i struggle with weight also. I lost 65 lbs 3 yrs ago. the easy part is getting if off. The hard part is keeping it off. YOu are a lovable squeezable , huggie girl. I enjoyed every min i spent with you. :)
well been crazy around here
chics hatching. everywhere ! peeps all night.
grocery errands ect...
Chrissy so funny about your DH. He is soooo busted !
Cookie i m sorry to hear about the unemployment. I know several people also that are having theirs stopped.
such a sad economy it is.
glad i got me some beer tonight !!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Ahh Sue-I remember beer fondly (sighing wistfully)

Tante-tsk tsk-like anyone would even notice a few pounds when all we cared about was your smile, your laugh and your generous heart. That would be like if I asked if anyone noticed the couple hairs under my chin that I have acquired with my lovely pregancy hormones or the dandruff that I have in the front now courtesy of the same hormones...

Betty-what you have I think is called Chelone-turtle head. Just in case you wanted to look it up;)

I have to say that I think I am the only one not nuts about hostas. There are a couple (white feather is one) on my list, but that's about it.

I don't make my stirfry with soy sauce. Instead I make it with a mix of sesame ginger and teriyaki marinades. I marinade the meat, then after it is done, take it out and toss the veggies to cook in the remaining sauce. Add the meat back in at the end to rewarm and dump on the top of some white rice-voila. I am NOT a cook-if it takes more than 20 mins, don't ask me to cook it;) PS-I also cheat and get the mixed frozen bags of stirfry vegs from the store;)

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks Stacey, just looked it up and yes that's exactly what I bought..a native plant...

Checked on the phlox..paniculata 'Nora Leigh' and yes, they will be gorgeous..guess I'll be back next year to purchase more....

I'm waiting for the almost red phlox to bloom, in the meantime I enjoy what color I have..

Bought several more 'crazy daisies' this past week...when I see how pretty this one is I really should have picked up more!!! Isn't that always the way...

As you can see Jaye, you barely can see my pond..

oops, forgot the photo...

I got that daisy last year. It's so cute!

Here are a few of my phlox. Were any in bloom when you all were here?

Thumbnail by joycet
Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

I wish I had more of this one. Got it in a coop and it has struggled from the beginning. I just love the color though.

Thumbnail by joycet
Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

It actually looks more true red in person.

I think these are cheerful!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Tink, have you had good luck with the White Feather? I have tried twice and both times I lost the plant. I am not doing something right for sure. I do love hosta--always wanted them when I lived in Gainesville but was never successful. I have had fairly good luck so far with my Tiny Blue Mouse Ears and they certainly add some texture and color to an otherwise bland yard.

Oh my Betty that is beautiful. I don't do Phlox either or rather the don't do me. What ever.

Well, I am off to see what we have in the way of a movie tonight.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

This is my dwarf..

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

.....looks like a flower to me! LOL

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

The liatris is finally starting to put on a show...figures, a week after you all are gone!

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Silly.... ;o)

Betty, this is my chelone...(well, one of them, I have 3)

See all those little plants at the bottom? They're all turtlehead seedlings. Drives me crazy!

Okay, one more and I quit. Need to get in the shower...whew what a day!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I just could not resist--you know me. Beautiful plants all. Funny when I was a child growing up in south Florida the liatris grew wild in the pastures. I knew it as Blazing Star and it was everywhere. Never in my wildest dream would have believed it would be a popular as it is now--just another weed in the pasture. What is the saying: "One man's weed is another man's flower?"

Victoria Harbour, ON

Beautiful photo's...love the almost red phlox...won't have mine fully in bloom most likely 2 to 3 more weeks..anxiously awaiting their blooms..

Do you think then Joyce that maybe the turtlehead plant is something I shouldn't plant????

Well got all my Christmas blocks done for June, almost done July but I'm tired/tired..good tired though, hate being behind..I'll ship them all to Barb on Monday..wow..big undertaking..

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh No, Betty, I love my turtlehead. It's just a little worker. The seedlings are easy to pull. I'm saving mine for Sue. So she can sell them at her nursery. I'm a "supplier"...in the best possible way, of course! When mine blooms, I'll post pictures. It really is a cool plant, and I love it that it blooms late when most other things have given up.

I doubt if that varigated phlox will come true from seed, but would you save me some anyway?

Marion, I have white in there, too, but it's slower. Wish they would all explode at the same time. I've never seen it growing wild...that would be cool! I gotta say....this year is the first year that it has self-seeded so rapidly. Another thing I'm pulling for Sue!

Victoria Harbour, ON

July 4th. is finally here...

Prayers for those who are keeping us safe, may their families know how grateful we all are for their efforts...

Do enjoy your day!

Joyce, will certainly save you seed...

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Thanks for saving, Betty.

Happy Independence Day!!! So glad we're independent!

Be SAFE, all!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

You know I have the hardest time with the tall phlox and with any coreopsis that isn't the reg one. I ahve planted 4 different varieties of coreopsis and none came back the next year and I have tried phlox 2X with no luck-granted, never from an actual plant, from bareroots. I really want the orange phlox...

Marion-I have never had the white feather-have been wanting it though. I don't have any trouble with the few hostas I have-all seem to do fine for me without any special care.

Betty-LOVE that vareigated phlox!! And Joyce-Love the dwarf one-too cute;)

I have 2 crazy daisies as the anchor to one bed and LOVE them. Then in another bed I have Goldenrausch and love that one too:)

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Now I have to go look up Goldenrausch....

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

When I googled it, it didn't even come up! A tall red one was the only picture, and there wasn't anything about it except that it got 5 ft. tall.

Like yours much better! The one I have is "Aglaia".

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!!!!!!

We're going to be joining the family reunion again today, and I have a splitting headache, it's making me feel sick to my stomach, it's right across my forehead.

Love the pics, I'm going to go out and get some pics of my flowers and gardens in a bit.

Have a great day!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Crissy, sounds like your getting a migraine! Try putting some ice on your head for a few minutes.
