This light blue is huge about 5 inches or more.. varigated leaves.
She's about to...51
Who would want a pink Oleander root ball and one branch sent to them? It has to go to a better place than behind the A/C unit...
What a pretty pic of the blooms, love that one corner? with the combination of plants, that must be beautiful to see in real life. I have bought those organza bags at the dollar store also in with the wedding stuff and they were really cheap. I used them to try to collect budda belly seeds that explode all over the place. Sadly some how I seem to also trap a bug or a bug gets in there and eats up a storm.
At about 4 this morning a storm blew threw, terrible winds, thunder, sound like a ton of rain....LOL I looked at the rain gauge at 6am and there were like 2 drops of water in it....LOL
Debra, I would love to have it. I admire the one at the bank every year and threaten to nab it every fall. Course I have resisted in that "robbing" from a bank might not be a wise thing...LOL
Oh no, please don't rob a bank! LOL! We have oleander growing all over the place here, down the middle of the highways! All colors, reds, pinks, whites. I think I have even seen a yellow one! They are poisonous, but what plant isn't! They grow fast here.
Wow, what a great thing to have all over. I have looked at home depot and they are expensive to buy up here and it is strange I will see them here at hd late summer, really early fall, but don't think I have ever seen them in the spring.
Deb, can you cut a branch, and start it from that? Or do you need the root?
I am thinking that from my research you can do both, which I tried from cuttings, which is why there is only one branch now, but I do know they are not winter hardy here. Joyce, no need to rob the bank, I will send it to you with the tag it came with. Anyone want anythig else? I am making up tags as I get requests. Joyce you were talking about the oleander, right?
Yes, if you really want rid of it....but only if you have decided that.
oh I want you to have it.. it did much better inside than it is doing outside.. I am sure you can get it to its best by this time next year..
Sweet brug LK. Love it. Mine are so slow. I think it is just too hot for everything right now. The hibiscus are dropping buds.Mmy gardenia standard has buds, but they don't seem to want to open either. Lots of buds coming on other things too, but it is just too hot at night.
I'll just smell yours from a distance and remember what they smelled like last year this time. ;0)
Hello to all! So hot here it's hard to breath outside. Love all the blooms, would like seeds from all MG's. Debra, from the seeds you sent me, 3 are budding and I'm eager to see them open. LK, your Angel is beautiful, what is her name? Only 1 of the Angels you sent me lived. My Brugs are all very slow doing anything. I think the best growth show is in those I got from you Debra. Yesterday I potted them all in larger pots. My potted plants have taken a wind beating both Sun pm and again last night. We need the rain so bad but the wind makes a big mess.
Hope each of you are finding cool places, staying well and happy.
Hey Faye, it is called Monster white! She is huge, and smells so sweet!
Thanks Linda, she is beautiful.
It was so hot mowing yesterday! It's typically a 2 hour job but took me 3 since I had to stop and take a few breaks...and I was only riding. Can you believe the last time I mowed was June 14, just after we returned from vacation? That's how dry it's been here til last week. After mowing, I weeded about 2 hours -- off and on long as I could stand it.
The birds planted a watermelon seed in one of my beds severals weeks ago. That vine is growing like wildfire and I've decided if it doesn't start to choke other plants, it can stay. I've been pinching blooms so it keeps stretching and stretching and so far it's making a handsome groundcover...lol
That's a whopper bloom, LK! Never have smelled a Brug. What do they smell like? One of the Lilies this year smelled like a combo of peppered chocolate.
They are so sweet. This one reminds me of a powdery lemon.
Linda I love monster white. congrats!
Faye, I am rooting a Chrissy for you. You will like it. Almost all my brugs have buds, Elizabeth has opened again.
Maya and PV are being stubborn. I am so excited to see cassies curls and dola and betty marshall open. No rain. I water at 6 thirty am and at 8thirty pm. can't wait to see my water bill. Oh Well, hubby says he thinks it is worth it to pay airconditioning bill ( he works in a factory with no a/c) I think it is worth it to pay water bill. I am afraid to send anything by mail right now. in the almost 100s for a week and more to come. No rain now for almost three weeks.
Why wouldn't you have wanted it to bloom Happ? Just curious..
When I went to the daylily farm he suggested they not bloom the first year, let them take the nutrients and use for roots and leaves not flowers. It logically made since to me, sort of if you are not going to sow seeds remove the seed heads so the plant won't spend it's resourses on that. Any way I am just touting what someone else said I am guessing they know what they are talking about....I absolutely don't...LOL
Debra, thank you for rooting Chrissy for me. That is one that did not come back., and yes, I did like her.
Hap, I like the plant marker......more info please.
Stay cool if possible.
What is the marker made out of?
Lillie is doing well, she is on a respirator because her lungs are not fully developed, and she has heart valve that wants to stick open, but so far that is all. She has gained 2 ounces. My Brother said if you hold out your hands together and cup them like your going to get them full of water, that Lillie could easily fit in them. Such a tiny girl, but seems to be strong and a fighter.
I told him we are waiting on pictures. I guess everyone has a pictures on thier cell phones, but no one knows how to send them out. But I promise, as soon as I get one, I will post.
Happ thanks for the info on the lily. That makes sense to me too.
It is so hot here Faye that it is impossible to be cool. We let the kitten in this afternoon and he disappeared for a while. I looked all over and found him curled up in the laundry basket in front of an air conditioning vent. ;0) Smart cat!
Oh, taters I am so glad, gaining weight like crazy, can't even imagine being so tiny. My gnephew had a hole in his heart when he was born, but he weighed 10 lbs. The heart doctor at Childrens Mercy kept going on and on about how different it was to have a little chunk in there. He looked like a line backer compared to the other kids. He is 19 years old now, with no problems at all. Can't play sports but none of the other boys in our family ever played sports so no big deal.
The plant marker is made of scap pieces of aluminum that I cut and drilled a hole in, but I have found aluminum like that at home depot also. The stake is just wire I found at home depot, stiff enough to stick in the ground but not so stiff I can't curl the top to hold the marker on. I figured if I used the dremel on it for the plant name that would be forever. Markers are just too darn expensive. I went a little over board on that one and grinded the square edges off, but I probably won't do that again, I will just leave them square. Please if anyone sees a flaw in my thought please let me know. I don't want to do all those tags like I did with mini blinds and find out they fade and break, I would much rather find out the problems a head of time. I love suggestions.
Can you engrave on the metal mini blinds?
That's a cool design, happ, it'll be waving "hi" when it's planted in the ground. I like the ability to adjust the height by the length of wire you decide to use. Reading should be easier too than having to bend over or nearly standing on your head...lol Don't know how you're bending the wire but I've made curly-Q's out of stronger wire than I could bend with my hands with the aid of two pairs of plyers.
Oriental Lily "'Scheherazade"
fotv, is your scheherazade blooms pointing up? Mine seem to be looking at the ground. I used one needle nose pliers to bend the curley with. I got it too tight then had to uncurl it to get the tag on.....learn learn learn. I am going to use a long wire to put it deep in the ground in hopes they stay there. Being metal they won't rot, rust, crack, fade. Aluminum will corode but I will be older and grayer by then....and probably won't remember anyway.
Linda Kay, I don't know why you couldn't engrave on metal blinds. Guess it depends if they are thick enough but I would guess they would be. That might look cool, cause they would be a color and you would remove that color when you engrave on it. I am a horrible engraver cause I have done some but they are readable. Love your bloom, can't wait until mine open. I do have one brug that something is eating the bag around the bloom, I now have 2 with big huge holes in it.
What else you guys got blooming? What is good in this heat? My hardy hibiscus seem to be happy. Anybody got those? I bought another at hd for a few bucks on sale.
happ, the stem was almost laying on the ground so the bloom was actually pointing downward. It's one of your babies from last year...lol You are really enjoying your camera, huh?
Lovely shots, Debra. Nothing really new here except Yazoo Banana Peel daylily and a few rebloomers. That little lily of yours is adorable, beautiful perspective.
All I have blooming is the one monarda from Debra, and 3 mandavilla, one white, one red, and the double color red and pink. Just too hot for anything else, I lost just about all my hibiscus from last year. The only one that made it is a pretty orange one, and I have had it bloom 5 flowers so far! DARN HEAT!!!
fotv, what do you suppose is the deal with that lily? It isn't a trumpet, it is an o.t., mine are standing up but you have to crawl on the ground to see the flower because they are all pointing down! I think the flower is really pretty but if it doesn't straighten up (literally) it may end up a cut flower....LOL Is it warm over that way still?
Yeah, it is so nice to have a camera that the battery doesn't go dead after five pictures.... ;D
Deb, I always thought lobelia cadinalis need moist area, I have always been afraid to plant it even tho I really like it, is yours moist or dry? Girl you must have the corner on mg's I have never seen so many beautiful blooms. You must have beautiful trellis and fences....
Gave away a hardy banana to a friend at lunch, she kind of sort of gardens, she worries too much about the garden not looking "right" or what the neighbors may think. So if she puts this banana where I think she will the neighbors will comment....LOL, so I will probably get it back.
Look at this triple beauty. Oh a funny on me..At 7am yesterday I was cutting grass and saw the first MG bloom. Was so excited but wanted to finish grass before it got to hot so I didn't take the pic. Went back late in the pm and the little bloom had curled back up. Didn't know they did that. This morning, the pic was taken @7:15. Walked the dogs a few min. ago and the beauties are closed up again.
