That's beautiful fotv, I meant to take pictures of the ones you sent me, they look like yours, just a beautiful varitey, but I spent the night chasing a snake around my garden room instead. This is the second snake in two days, or the same one that has gotten in twice. I have had it! DH is a more afraid than I am but this guy is strong I was trying to net him with the pond net and almost had him twice! DH is suppose to look for holes today altho the room is really tight he is getting in some way. I am guessing when I get home tonight there will be enough gun shot holes in the building to look like swiss cheese, LOL just kidding I hope, DH won't try to catch and release....LOL What an awful night!
She's about to...51
Thanks ya'll. Well, happ, I'll do whatever I can for my friends and family, but girlfriend you're totally on your own with that snake!
Wow is right! Very pretty. Debra, the bloom is a very nice red! I will get some bags, and try to collect seeds.
I'm on my way Happ. I'll take care of your snake buddy for you. :0)
Hello everyone, sure have missed you. Boy has it been hot here and still so much yard work (watering and weeding) has to be done. Also have a huge yard sale here, 5 families. My Daughter came with a truck and trailer lode of the good stuff. she loves Hillsville and other places that really go out to show "Tiques" We started putting stuff out on Thursday and in no time at all people were stopping. Friday it seemed like everyone in Henderson came and again on Sat. There was a little over a thousand $'s collected here.
Susan, your Caladiums are beautiful and so is the Canna.
Debra, the Angel Trumpets you sent me are holding their own and I think have started to grow.
Some of the Dlilies I got for postage are blooming, but most of my lilies are about done. The prettiest bloom I have now is on the triple yellow datura.
Love and hugs to all.
rvnsbrk, I will wait on you...LOL Actually getting kind of worried I called home and ask DH to call me and I have not heard from him, you know the snake may have won........
dahtzu, Oh, she is beautiful! ! I use to grow the wild ones that come back from seed, but every once in a while I guess they get frozen out and stop coming back. Is it ok to grow them with brugs?
My neighbor works in an ER and one evening a stupid teenager was brought in unconsious and blood pressure dropping! Other teenagers had brought him in and no one was talking, finally my neighbor convienced one of the girls that he was going to die unless she told what had happened. The girl had been smart enough to bring in the seed packet, the stupid kid had eaten about 4 moon flower seeds because he had heard it would make you high! My neighbor said they were calling poison control and trying to figure out what to do, she said she thought if the kids would of waited any longer he might not have made it, stupid kid.
Happ. I have heard that the Brugs and Datura should not be planted side by side. Sure hope that kid makes it, and learns from his mistake..
He made it but Amy said it was really touch and go for a while because his blood pressure just kept dropping.
dahtzu, as long as they aren't side by side but across the yard or something you are ok? Do the hybrid datru's produce seeds like the wild ones? I would be interested in growing them if I didn't have to over winter. The wild ones you can start from seed in the spring and they are big and beautiful blooming by middle of summer. I usually let them start themselves from the seed in the flower bed. Do they smell as wonderful as the wild ones? I keep asking compared to the wild ones but you may never have seen the wild ones. Pigs are no dummies around here the pig ground will be barren from them rooting around except for the wild moon flowers, they will be growing and blooming and the pig's don't bother them at all.
Hope you caught that darn snake?
Faye, how are you doing? Have not seen you in a bit. Glad the yard sale was good for you! Beautiful blooms! Save me some seeds please? I had a beautiful yellow one last year, but it did not come back at all.
Those plants can wreak havoc, if you don't know what your doing with them. They are highly toxic!
Happ, I really do not know much about the Datura. This one may be the wild variety, I grew it from seed.As for Datura and Brugs growing in the same yard, only not close I hope is ok, that's the only way I can have both. When I took the picture I did not notice any fragrance. Ask Debra aka joeswife, she probably has the answers for you.
LK will be glad to send you seeds and anything else from my yard. Please remind me in late fall.
The triple purple dature. Really need a better pic.
That must have been a huge fruitful Yard Sale, Faye...lol Good for you raking in the dough! One of these days, I'd love to make the rounds at Hillsville.....that's another one of those events on my "bucket list". Can you tell I'm easily entertained...lol Your triple yellow Datura is simply gorgeous.
Hey happ, Neener's not kidding and will probably show up wearing that Snake T-shirt of hers I can't look at. Now wouldn't that be the funniest picture we've ever seen with you two chasing a snake or two around, nets a-flying :0)
Oh dear Joyce what Kind of snake? I would come and catch it for ya.. I love snakes. Hope DH didn't shoot up the place.
Faye, I love your daturas. waiting on mine I planted kind of late. That quad skirt is awsome! The purple ones smell heavenly!
I have never grown a yellow one , but I did plant some seeds. we will see.
I have four more brugs budding, but the het is supposed to be in the hundreds for the next 7 days.
Faye, I have high hopes for the first batch I sent you of brugs, just get ready for more as soon as it cools down a bit and I can get out there.
LindaKay, monarda seeds need cold. throw the bag in the refridgerator for the winter. I have root runners of all of the 6 colours of mine I can send in the Really early spring for you. I still have hundreds of seed heads from them all.
These are Raspberry wine. They are my favorites.
That would be nice Debra, thank you. I saw a hummer at it today, but did not have my camera with me.
Heat index 109 today, be careful if you are out and about Debra.
Lordy Ladies!! 109?!?! Nineties and that same heat coming our way starting tomorrow. We had 3/4 inch of rain last night. Much needed.
temp in the high 90's but we have had so much rain the humidity is stifling which makes the heat index 109! It is lunch time and I really don't want to go out.....how bad is that! Talking about possible rain tonight or tomorrow.....which I am not sure is helping at all. Dang I meant to check the temp of the fish pond last night, I don't want them to boil.....
I have a MG meeting tonight outside, I am guessing it won't be well attended....rofl.
I can feel your panick, LK, just wish I could help you. Surely somebody else here can.
It was so awfully hot again today with hardly any breeze.....it was 96 on the back screened-in porch at 4 o'clock, never mind the ceiling fans on high. The radio was blasting over their whir and the guy said our heat index was 101. That's a far cry from 109 though. OMG, that's off the scale with humidity. How do ya'll in the Mid-South & West stand those kinds of temps? I'd be moving ultra slow with a cold wet towel around my neck.
Stay inside with the AC on!
My SIL in Ft Worth does the same thing and only goes out in her yard this time of year to water really early in the morning before she goes to work and it gets ultra hot.
How was your MG's meeting yesterday, happ? Did you wimp out like I probably would have?
LindaKay it looks like it got hot and then split. That happened to me last year. I bet it will be fine. It drove me nutz tho.
Joyce how u doing> did u get my rain? No rain here in three weeks now, temps in the high 90s for a week and 7 more over 96 days forcast with no rain, ugh.
I go out at 6 am, then go to work, come home and go back out until I am drenched, come back in and freeze and that is what I do until midnite. I am picking yellow leaves, cutting back the too tall four oclocks while it is too hot for them ( they fall forward to protect them selfs) I cut them short and they double in size and come right back. Picked a peck of giant red tomatoes today and about two quarts of green beans. Now I know why my back hurts tonite. Bending is not in my things I can do list. I am off work tommorrow and I hope to be floating around on water somewhere during the peak heat of the day. Did I tell you I went fishing at my sons place last sunday? I caught 5 bass and two sun fish. It was great and in only an hour and a half.
I have buds on Elizabeth, Frosty, Alex, Kaitlyn, Star Dancer pod 2, Wretched Mess, Cupids Blush, Cassies Vurls and Monster white so far. Oh and Jean Pasko and Betty Marshall. I am kacited. Took two cuttings from StarDancer pod 2 today for Faye and Linda kay.
Hi all! I didn't know the okra on brugs would split like that......glad I know. Boy with all those blooms on the brugs you will be smelling up the whole neighborhood! LOL. You are just not going to learn with your back are you little one?
I did go to the meeting cause I'm no whimp, sides I am the vp and the 'p' didn't come...LOL
There was a strong wind but sort of felt like a blast furnace hitting you but at least it was air! We had rain again last night with thunder and lots of hard wind. All the brugs were blown over along with the tall banana plants. Humidity right now is 80% according to the weather channel and I can see stars. The temps in the 90's and this humidity is jungle type.....all the banana trees should be happy happy. Predicting rain on Sunday again, course cause I am off tomorrow but am running my Mom to the doctors and then Saturday the kiddos and my granddaughter are coming over and then Sunday I had to play in the yard. How can you have 3 days off and barely get one day to yourself?
Don't ask me, I am about to have three days off, starting tommorrow and I am already wishing it was morning so I can go out and walk around and see stuff. I hope you have lots of fun with you Grandbabies, cuz they don't stay little very long. I am not doing too much yet, but it was easy to take cuttings.. they were already nubbed from my spraying every am and pm. They are in little rooting pots right now, and as soon as they root I will send them out. Did you want any of my brugs? I am cutting them as soon as I see them bloom.
What kind of bud is that?
Sure I am not going to pass up a brug...LOL
Just have a sec cause I think I will go out and see what is happening altho I can't get out in the grass cause it is dripping wet and my garden shoes are in the garage and I don't want the dogs to go crazy so early. DH is still sleeping.
DGD is at the perfect age and her Mom has raised her to be a joy to be around and for that I am thankful. DGD is an only child of an only child of an only child. I was hoping they could break that trend, but it is out of their control, so we are lucky.
Debra, why are you cutting them so early, they will bloom again for you?
That looks like a magnolia bloom?
You ladies enjoy your 3 day week-end!
And watch that bending over, it is not good for bad backs!
I have buds on Frosti, Maya and Coral Glow today. They seem to be moving along really slowly.
It's been an interesting morning here. We had an earthquake at 5AM. I had just gotten up to go to the loo and and things started shaking. Now I know why I don't live in California. No way. This was only a 3.7 but I'd prefer not to repeat the experience. Went back to bed and had another trembler a few minutes later that rattled the windows. Enough excitement for me for today. :0)
Wow, seems to be lots of those things all over the place! Hope no damage was done?
Oh No! were you scared? I woulda been. I would rather have a tornado than an earthquake. poor you!
Joyce you are so lucky to be able to enjoy her, as I am sure you realize that. I am cutting them now so I can send them already rooted, Faye. Wish My Maya would set buds, the little witch!
LindaKay, believe me, I ain't doin' nothin this weekend that will make me hurt!
Yups, it is a magnoilia, the neighbors down the street have two trees that are as big as a Kansas 50 yr old elm tree. I love them.

me neither, Linda, but it is pretty. I can't tell what those things are, but your garden looks beautiful!
do they jump if you get your finger close? I believe that is a white fuzzy aphid and not good to have around your angels. google it and there are several videos where they are on trees.
Just got home and it is sooooo darn humid and hot, I need to pull weeds and plant things, but mercy it is hot. Clouding up now so we will probably have a shower just to raise the humidity a little...rofl. After I dropped my Mom off I did go to a nursery but you know it is hot when all I can think about is how hot it is. Course doesn't help that I was in a nylon shirt gheez! Had some pretty begona's buy 1 get 1 free, I think they were 5.99 I might have to do that. Had some beautiful roses but it was soooo hot I just couldn't stand and look at them.
Debra are you suffering with high heat and humidity and no rain! That is not fair....LOL
Well gonna change and fight my way outside.....ughhhhh
That sure looks like them. I have not seen them jump, so far! I am going to mix some dish soap in my sprayer and go gert them, before they get me!
You better taters, cause they will get you.....oh no dog is crying I hope he is not hearing thunder, he is a better weather predicter than the high paid weather people....LOL
Everything here was OK after the quake. It just scared the poo outta me at 5AM. Nothing like getting up for a whiz and the loo is shaking all over. :))
It is so hot here too that even though I should do some outside things tomorrow I can't make myself do it. I'm turning into my worst nightmare ...a whiny weeny. :0)
Neener, I am turning into a winey weenie, cuz I just went outside, saw everythng droopy , decided I was feeling droopy too. Think it is a good time for a nap...;)
rvnsbrk, dang don't want the floors shaking under my feet......did you go back to sleep? I am so claustrophobic I am not sure I could of stayed in the house....LOL
Well the weatherdog was right it is thundering outside. Oh good a little more humidity, we need it....right.
