Beautiful start to the new thread, Mrs Ed.
You have some wonderful birds, Rian. The Sunbirds are the equivalent of the Hummingbirds with their iridescence, aren't they? When you say that the Burchell's Coucal has the sound of Africa, I was thinking that it would probably have to be the beautiful sound of the Australian Magpie that portrays the sound of Australia for me.
I spent a bit of time down at Cottesloe this morning and managed to get a few shots of the White-cheeked Honeyeaters.
Thank you for starting us off with an exciting bird Mrs Ed. Fantastic pictures of the Bobolink and that fledgling is adorable.
Great pictures of your birds Littlethings. Love the beak on that Sunbird and the bright color of that Cape Weaver.
Margaret, I love the honeyeaters and that raven is beautiful. Are those red eyes on the Red Wattlebird? Such a beauty.
It's amazing to me that I can just come to this board and see so many beautiful and different birds from all over the world. Thank you all for all the fantastic photos.
My young Orioles are continuing to keep me entertained. I love the helpless look on this one that's just learned how to balance itself on the wires of our railings.
Duc, LOL!
Margaret, love the wattlebird, raven looks like Black Crow, here.
Marna, thank you for a nice start to a new thread, weekend greeting everyone. Hope you're having a wonderful restful weekend Marna. I'll have to look up the Bobolink, its name alone is interesting. ^_^
Rian Amethyst sunbirds, love that name too. Thank you for sharing your interesting birds from Africa.
Margaret the White cheeked Honeyeater, are they sorta like bigger hummingbirds? Love that one Red Wallebird on Banksia flowers too.
Duc, your young orioles are marvelous doing their balancing act. Like young adults in the human species-- in a sense, until they learn of the law of gravity. Love the pictures. Cute recent arrival, the Scrub Jay. And the Starlings juvies with adult, is adorable. One of my favs.
While out in the garden this early morning I discovered my Northern Cardinal has discovered my new raw peanuts feeder. That simple little thing made my heart sings.
Yippies! The couple is indeed building a new nest. Hummm, poor babies chicks are going to go through some heat wave this summer! I saw the female cardinal with straws in her beak coming and going...here is Mr. Lincoln arriving home to check out what's all the noise the Missus was making is all about (above female chirping).
This pic. is for Wild Rose ... Lizard is sun bathing and even attempted to call a potential mate. lol. Just hope Mr. Lincoln or his mate won't find it before it's all over with. (Wild Rose, this is the type of Lizards we have here down in SE) The last one I shared was from the SW region. Sorry about the OT folks. I'll post more pics. of birds later, promise.
Wonderful shots Margaret! love the Honeyeaters and Wattlebird!
Duc, Those juvies are so sweet. Great shots!
Nice shots Lily!
Thanks for the lizard pic Lily! THIS lizard is staying under the rocks for now... I've been under the weather the past few days, and my one outing to the osprey nest sapped me! Didn't even make it around to see my green herons! I will try for them on Monday when I am off again! Alas, this is my weekend to work! :o(
Lily, glad the birds are finally noticing the peanut feeder. Is that a female Cardinal on the underside of the feeder in that first photo? Beautiful lily! Your lizards have so much color while ours are just plain brown.
Wild Rose, hope you're feeling better soon. This is no time to be feeling poorly.
Adel, that pix of the female Tree Swallow is much fun. Duc, the first pix is that of the male Northern Cardinal, the female is pretty but has a more subtle beauty compared to that bright red attire of the male. BTW, the female was taken sitting on her nest if you enlarge the pix you will see the nest that she's sitting on. (2nd pic. below the feeder's).
Wild Rose, keep cool, and hurry back as you feel better. What a bummer gotta work while you're under the weather?
Mr. Lincoln again AKA male Northern Cardinal.
That's a cute one adel!
Handsome Mr. Lincoln Lily!
Good ones nanny, I like the Red-winged Blackbirds,Mallard and Eastern Kingbird!
Duc, the adult Red Wattlebird's eyes are a brownish red. Here's another shot I've cropped so the eye show more clearly.
Lily_love, the Honeyeaters would probably be the Australian equivalent to your Hummingbirds, in that they are insectivorous nectar feeders; however, they are entirely different species.
Great start Marna with that Bobolink...I am still hoping to see one someday. Your little juvie is so cute, I hope someone can ID him.
Nice shots everyone...hope you all had a nice weekend, ours was hotter than hades!!
Glad to see you back Hack, I'll bet you are enjoying your new wood floors and I know the work and effort was worth it!
Wild Rose, hope you get to feeling better.
Nice Bobolink shots Mrs_Ed and thanks for starting the next thread! Your 3rd bird is a juvenile male Bobolink.
Hey Hack, glad the floor is finished...I like hard wood floors myself.
Little_things, really enjoying your shots of your African bird's. Keep em coming!
Margaret, nice shots! That Raven is beautiful!
Duc, nice shots! That juvenile Scrub Jay shot is stunning!.. so clear and detailed!
Lily, your lizard and lily are lovely! (say that 10 times real fast) glad the Cardinal's are going to nest for you, also glad your Brown-headed Nuthatch has returned, it reminds me of my Red-breasted NH's which I haven't seen since early March.
Adel, nice close-up of your female Tree Swallow! Look's like she had a few word's to say to you. lol
Nice shots Nanny!! Your Hairy WP, seems to be molting not sure though....earlier in the week I had a Red-bellied WP show up that had no feather's at all on his head...I said aloud (Elvis is that you?) lol It took off.
Margaret, very nice crisp shot of the Red Wattlebird!!
Ok I,m a late poster again, everyone's shots have been a joy to look at, and thanks for sharing!
Well I have been saving some shots during the week and have a few to share. I haven't had too many chance's to post int he daily lately so I have a few extra this time round.
