Amethyst Sunbird (Male), I only got a pic of the female (earlier in this thread), This is the male on an Aloe africana flower.

The male has a metalic purple spot, but with various light reflection angles, it can vary to pinkish red, and you can even see some green reflection on the forehead. The male is mostly "sooty black" however. Special little beauti!

Hack and Nanny, Love the Pileated!
Thanks pelle, but nanny did all the work.
Hack, I think you might be seeing a lot of red reflection from the hummers feeder, do you have ruby throats ? I don't know if its a female or a juvie.

Those Ruby-throated hummers are all I've ever seen.

JoanMN - your head shot of the Great Blue Heron is super!

Little_things - what an unusual looking bird, beak and all. Thanks for sharing.

Nanny, that's a cute Baltimore Oriole juvie. How lucky you are to even see the Pileated. Cute Chipping Sparrow too. Next time take the camera when you go out at night! Congrats on all those owls-wowsers!

Hack, great job with all your pictures. I love that finch with the bit of orange on the front. That juvie catbird is adorable!

Lily, that red-head is sure a beauty.

Iris, lol. Bet it returns soon!

Adel, there's nothing sweeter than seeing the babies in the houses.

Gazer, adorable Pileated! I'm so jealous!

Burn, glad to see you back. What a bright and cheerful welcoming committee you have with the goldfinch.

Joan, I'd want that one on the wall too! Great job.

Littlethings, that sunbird is absolutely gorgeous!

This juvie Brown-headed Cowbird has been following a juvie Oriole for a few days now so I'm thinking that they were raised together by mama Oriole. It was funny when the Oriole went to the sugar-water feeder to drink and the Cowbird tried to do the same thing but couldn't get anything-or didn't like it.

I did manage to get 1 shot thru the window of one owl that was in our tree. It was after I got this one that our neighbor came to tell us there were more out front!!

I will post it in a bit!

I tried to get some more. But I haven't played with this one out at night much so I just couldn't get squat!! lol
