Welcom to Tropical Garden #76

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

prita, i want a non nooch vine. So pretty. don't know if i can keep alive in my zone though. Some plants don't do well in sunroom in winter. I killed a couple of plumeria last winter and I've always been good with tropicals, even the winter.

Do you want me to start a jasmine cutting for you when it'd done blooming? They like shades. Mine are pretty low maintenance.

What is this? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=7930727

LiliMerci, that would be nice if you could get the jasmine to root. I sure would like to have those big blooms. I am still waiting on the ginger to get a little bigger, so I can get you a start.

ColibriGardener, thanks. The plant is a Purple Chinese Hat Plant (Holmskioldia Tettensis).

My eldest daughter finally came over for her birthday dinner last night and she went home with her suv loaded with the tubs of things I had grown for her, thank goodness. Now I have at least path to walk around in the patio..I gave her one of my favorite hibiscus that was in full bud flush, I can't wait for her call when they open.

Do any of the other gingers have a scent ? There are some beauties out there .
All these flowers are so beautiful , I wish I could have some in my yard in S Texas , but I'm not there in the summer to water and care for them . I love the big leaves on the different plants .

debra, re: caladiums, maybe you had some bulbs that you did not lift last winter and they survived and grew. The coleus green w/ burgundy edge is one I've never seen, luv it

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Vossner, remind me this fall, I will send you a rooted cutting of it, it is a hybrid from gebhardts. I wouldn't doubt that they wintered over outside, I put three feet of leaves over the beds every Fall.

Hello All!

mjsponies, I love the background in your first picture, what are your plans for all that garden space? I can see the color on the tips of the nong nooch vine, you are going to love it!
The variegated Philippine violet is a must have, thanks for introducing it to us.

Texasbigleaves, your new Calathea Green Ice is gorgeous, I wish that I had room for them all.

joeswife,Great pictures!! it is amazing how fast those Colocaias grow. Your yellow splash is very pretty, it seems to love that spot in the garden. I can just imagine how lush your garden will be come fall.
It was overcast and rainy all day today.

HMMMMM...Purple Chinese Hat. It's beautiful. What zone is Red Oak, TX? Do you grow it outside in the ground or in a pot? I must have one!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I like it too, and have to see what kind of care it needs.
The varigated violet and the Purple chinese Hat are two I have never heard of before..
But then, I have never heard of alot of things that I have seen on here..

Rita, do you mean that's what your neighbor sees when he looks into your garden? or do you mean that is his garden?

do you know my abyssinian glads bloom in dec? I must have had really young bulbs the first time I planted b/c they took 3 years, and then, great blooms in Dec. On that particular batch, the foliage is totally dormant at the present time. Then I traded with a lovely DGer for some more of the abbies and the foliage is all up and about 2 ft tall. crazy!

We've had 2" of rain so far. A delicious steady sprinkle. Things are looking greener by the hour. Feel kinda guilty since there's probably people w/ fallen trees and submerged cars, and all the calamities that go w/ hurricanes.

Beautiful pictures everyone. Thanks for sharing.

Rita, would you please save me some seeds from your Amaranth 'Elephant Head'? I would really appreciate it.

I need to go over to see Tropicman, and his wife.. I havn't been there yet. Lat year I went on June 29th, and took pictures. I am missing out on seeing his tropical paradise in his yard.
I had to cut back all the white and red salvias, they were crowding out the cardinal flowers. It took me a long time since I had to sit on the grass to do it.
now I am very sore .... *sigh*
Here is the begonia you sent me , Rachel. It is lovely.
