TXbigleaves, what do you do w/ your h. rostrata. They froze on me and I'm zone 9.

Dallas, TX

vossner, I have them planted in the ground under a green house. This is the same way Prita does most of her tropicals. It makes it alot easier. But we still have a " LOT OF POTS TO MOVE " just ask Ritas dh Ken.

So that's your and Miss Rita's secret. My stuff is too spread out to do something like that.

Here is hardy hib. Cranberry Thrills that I got this spring from Garden Crossings. It is dark, dark red but you know how it is with reds and cameras.

I went out at 8:15pm to plant some scadoxus I got from Gingergrower and I'm drenched. It is so darned hot this late. It's ridiculous. I will post a pic of the plants tomorrow. He sent some nice ones.

Here is one of two plumies that I have planted inground. They die completely but they keep coming back. Since they have to start from scratch every season, I'll never see blooms. It was a seedling from Candy Stripe (or something like that)

I should have mercy on this poor plant and give it winter protection. It has paid its dues, lol.

Thanks for the new thread Texasbigleaves and I enjoyed viewing everyone's pictures from the previous thread. Lot's of beautiful plants were shown. Rita, please show more pictures of your poison arrow vine. I think that vine is very unique.

Debra, good to read that the Begonia is doing well for you. The one that you sent me is sporting new leave's as well and I have to ask, what is that big leaved plant you have growing in the middle of your Mondarda plants?

Who can resist growing some of these.......

my Rose of Sharon keep dropping their buds........)-: don't know what's up, they get afternoon shade, they have mulch, can't decide if they are not getting enough water or too much...

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

I used to think col. Elena and xant. Lime Zinger were the same plant b/c they are both that lovely chartreuse color. In fact, I had them planted together. Today I realized that col. Elena has a redish stem and a red dot right at the point where the stem joins the leaf. Lime Zinger is all green.

In my garden xant. Lime Zinger is a stronger and a bigger plant. I'd like to hear your experience if you grow any or both of these plants. I think I like LZ better.

RAIN lucky you! Not a drop for me in 6weeks!

Jerry your plants are beautiful. I love the varigated leaves on your AEAE ( have no clue what that means tho)
My rose of sharon is blooming too, it looks like yours, vossner. The other rose of sharon I have I started from seed and I can't wait until the buds open I am thinking it is a lavender double bloom.
someone from work sent a calla lilly home for me to "keep alive" it is yellow and the leaves are spotted. HELP!!
My lime zinger is out front looking all lime, the other ones I already posted pictures of earlier, I thought it was a LZ also, but its stems are reddish?
My EEs are giagantic, and the one that Rita sent me is really growing.
Rachel, the big leaved thing in between the monardas is a brug from JT called Damien. Soon I will be thinning out those monardas and then Damien and Wretched Mess and First Belle can all have the sun to themselves.
I know these shower caddys are ruining this shot. Soon they will not be visible for all the japanese morning glories popping up out of them. I should move them before they get too " Attached" to that location.

TX, 'tis gorgeous. I'm getting that one next yr. has yours bloomed? here is my p. anyamani living in a pot and it has not bloomed.

Debra, if your stem is reddish on the lime green plant, then you DEFINITELY have col. Elena. It is a lovely, lovely plant. But see, I think many people were thinking they were the same but w/ two marketing names. I will keep mine right where they are, but to expand my lime green patch, I will grow more of the xant. LZ instead of col. elena.

last night we had more of a misting, but I'll take it.

vossner.
Unless they are dirt CHEEP do'nt get any more!
I bought mine when they first came out.
I bought 6 with different names and 5 where exactly the same
plants. The only one that was different died with in a month.
The 3 that i still have you can not tell them apart! Only one
has bloomed , it had only one very small pink flower on it.
I think you can all 3 of them in this pic. Jerry

Sorry not the right picture. Will take another one today. Jerry

My Elena spreads like wild fire. Does Lime Zinger? I had a zinger but it died and the Elena has grown like mad for me.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

Peony, isn't that interesting. My LZ is the one spreading. Elenas are spreading, but at a much slower rate.

TX, that's what I'm talking about w/ regards to plant marketing. You think you are collecting so you get stuff w/ different names, only to find out you have 3-4 of the same.

Dahlonega, GA

Hey , give this dummy an ans to a stupid question , Please . I keep seeing the term ,noid . Just so I'll have some insite as to what your talking about , what's a noid ? Duh !

Here's my EE after being in the container for 5 weeks, I just LOVE how she's growing.

Thumbnail by jasminesmom
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

she is beautiful! Mine are in containers as well, with alot of pups sprouting out of the clay on the south fence. I haven o clue how all those EEs and Caladiums could spread like that.
Jerry, I LOVE your Maya. My Maya is a brug..

I kept this alive all winter, in the basement Garden. It is a rhinicus something, not a castor bean exactly.

mjsponies-
I am up near Chicago and my Rose of Sharon plant also lost it's buds. It has always bloomed beautifully for me but this year it looked like it was about to bloom and tkhen all the buds turned brown and died. The plant itself is fine. That is weird is't it.

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

mable,
That is weird. I went and googled and the only thing I can come up with in inconsistent watering. We've gotten lots of rain, then no rain, and they are down at the far end of the yard, so when I water them I water deeply. I'm just wondering if I need to water them more often in between rain.

Dallas, TX

Well we finally got about 1/4 -1/2 in. of rain this afternoon. The first in about in 6 weeks. But we need this every week.
In september 2000 when i went to Miami Fl. they where in a bad drought. The motel was under a water rationing order.
When i started walking around town every yard and park was as green as green could get. Back in Dallas lawns where brown as brown could get!!! Go figure! But i will be back watering on Sat. Jerry

Jerry what is the ferny mimosa looking plant decorating your banana?

noonamah, Australia

Debra, it looks like a Peltophorum pterocarpum, or even Delonix regia.

If I have this right, the Elena has the pink/red stem.
