This past weekend I took out the carex grass edging in my front shade bed, made much smaller clumps, and put impatiens, the one called 'Blue Pearl', in between each clump. Here's how things looked after getting started.

The only thing I did today was just tidy up some stuff. I cut back the bloom stalks of my TBI's in one of my beds, cut off any ratty or suspicious looking leaves, deadheaded some stuff, did a little weeding. Then we got some rain. Not raining now, so I'll go out a get a little more done. Hope the skeeters aren't out. They weren't out earlier, so that was a good sign.
Oh, I will have a lot of that carex grass to give away at the RU.

Looking good! This will be very pretty when it fills in. Pretty curving bed. I plucked a few weeds I could reach from the grass. Pretty soggy here. Rain off and on all day. No sun at all. Dark and gloomy. Hope tomorrow is better, I need to cut back all the peony blooms that are a soggy mess.
Pat, I was just out there cutting peony blooms. They're a soggy mess here, too. And now I'm a soggy mess. LOL! Anyhow, I cut the ones that still looked good and brought them in, and cut back the spent blooms and some of the foliage on some. Still more to do. The rain chased me back in. I, too, hope tomorrow is better. They say showers in the a.m. Maybe the rest of the day will be good, but doesn't look like we'll get any sunshine.

It looks very nice, Karen! Curved beds are always so pleasing to look at.
It's a gloomy dark day here, too. Not really raining, but moist air and dense cloudcover...mosquitos love it. Wish I had gone to a movie or something.
For some reason the skeeters weren't active here today.

this morning was spent digging up stuff for kathy's intimate ru and this afternoon i worked on the latest rock wall - about half done (30') and need to go get more large stone/boulder for the bottom next week - will also need to find some flat to finish the top - they go faster than expected.

Karen, those LILIES, in the back of the pictures! My favorite color! What are they? Also, every time my DH goes out to see if our daylilies are blooming yet, he says "this would look so good if only we had more SPIDERWORT! We have a little at the beginning of the row. Then I think of you; are you still overrun with it?

Thanks so much, Carrie! I look forward to showing it to you in person. Those lilies are Asiatic ones, but I don't know the variety. I could put aside pot for you to get at the RU if you want. They do get eaten by the lily beetles every year. I just sprayed last week. Will have to spray again next week. I use an organic spray called Monterey Garden Insect Spray. It works very well. I sprayed kind of late this year, though, so they did get a bit chewed up.
You could have some of my tradescantia, too. I am overrun with it, but that's only the bright fuchsia purple one. The blue and white ones are much better behaved. They stay in clumps, but they do seed in. The other kind travels underground.

Ok for my new space, I am thinking rock garden. Maybe with one of those dry river beds and a little bridge.
I'm going to save the gazebo for when we do our patio in the back, I'll put one on the corner of that.
Jen, that sounds like a really nice idea! I love rock gardens and dry river beds. Reminds me of Arizona when I would go hiking and follow the dry, seasonal creek beds there.
Boy, did I work my keaster off today! I got a huge weed jungle under control, at least for now. For those of you who were at my RU last year and were digging daylilies, that's the area that I weeded. I don't know if you all remember, but last year, at the end of the summer, I went in and weeded that area. Was much worse then. There were lots and lots of DL's still in there, and lots of raspberry canes, as well as huge weeds taller than me. Anyhow, I got that all cleared last year, and got many DL's out, shipping them off here and there. It was overrun with weeds again this year, and raspberry canes were growing back, but not as bad as last year. I got that tamed. Still a lot back there that I have to do. Need to put in new beds for new DL's. Gotta get some DL seeds started, too. I have tons to do. Keeps me from getting bored.

Now you are making it impossible for me not to come! I've never had any lily beetles here, but then I've never had any lilies here before either. I know DH wants the transcendantia (did I spell that right) but the ones we love are purplish - maybe you would call them blue. They go with my Rozanne blue scheme (don't tell him that; he wouldn't understand).
He's in a foul mood tonight because of spending the whole day on hold with the state of NJ to pay a parking ticket from when he had a NJ license. He doesn't any more, he has a MA license, so he doesn't know his NJ license number and you can't do anything if you don't know your license no., but you have to wait on hold for 65 min. each in 3 different queues to find that out. We finally paid it by mail. They kept telling us he could find out this number at the next office so we'd wait and wait and wait (mostly me) and then when a live person would FINALLY pick up, she would say "oh, we don't do that here, let me transfer you." Wait, that's way to polite, more like "can't do that, gotta transfer you" click ....

Here are the flowers on trad 'Sweet Kate', which has chartreuse foliage. Much more blue-looking. I don't know if I'll have any of this to give away. I don't have a lot of it. If I don't sell what I have potted up now, then it will be available at my RU.

just a status picture on the latest wall - had to really cut into the back of the bed to leave room for horse player who through from the right side - although not to much - i though from the left and like a little more home field advantage:)
still i had to move a jm and two vibs and several foxglove.

My dad's doing well and we got started on our weedy jungle and trying to plant all the annuals and veggies that survived our absence, but, it seems I've run into a slight inconvenience, it appears that I've contracted an inner ear infection. It causes vertigo so bad you can't crawl on you hands and knees (too far to fall down), and extreme nausea (I may finally lose some weight). The drugs they use to treat it both say they may cause dizziness, LOL. The doctor said I may be staggering about like a drunken, sea sick sailor for as much as a week. What a way to try and garden. The Doc said to leave the weeds grow, but with a 3 week head start I'm afraid they may go to seed before I get to them. I hope to start weeding soon. Ric
free rocks ric gotta get'em while you can - in the process today bringing over what i hope will be the last batch needed - there is also a large flat round one that i am going to make my best effort to get out of the woods and into the truck - would make another nice seat - not sure i can get in yet it is pretty big

i
only three trips today - spent a lot of time hunting for flat stone and getting large ones for the base - now i should have enough of the base stones - flat ones i need to find another source, slim pickings and not large enough.
as for the big flat one it is bigger than i thought - was able to muscle it onto the two wheeler and roll it out of the woods which was not easy with several breaks - now how do i get it into the pick-up and then out?? do not think i can push it up a 2x12 alone - may have to call in another set of hands.
Finished all the planting today - at least everything that's going in the ground. Just have to transplant the caladiums, which are growing very slowly, from the trays into the window boxes and pots.
Seems to be a banner year in my garden for PI! I keep finding it everywhere.
Ric, good luck with the ear infection, 2 of my sisters had it and it lasted more than a week. One of them gained weight because she couldn't move off the couch for a long time. She's better now though.
Just finished planting the new JM.
Bill, you need a pet bear. I watched a show last night where a bear moved an 18 hundred pound rock to get to some food that was under it. Pretty impressive.
