Someone told me it may make the roots get too hot. I will try to think up of something to help them.
Charleen
Hey!!! Dee, are you getting things caught up??? Debra, How's your back???

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Back is good, as long as I am doing nothing but watering and smelling. LOL I thought about your idea today at work, and I would mound the bag with mulch to keep it cool.. I am thinking about doing just that since I have rooted cuttings that need a place to stay until I get them sent to their new mommas. The brugs in the ground are in red clay ammended as much as I can ammend, their root balls are in a plastic mesh bag from fruits and veges, with the ends out of the soil, so I can lift them out easily this fall.

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Debra, thats a great idea too...planting them in the mesh bags.
Girls, I am not really caught up, but I have decided that I can't get the whole yard staighten out in one growing season. What really made me decide that it is time to slow down, is the fact that I woke this morning to a beautiful bloom on Serendipity.....and I didn't even see it coming.Yesterday, I was even up close and personal with the brugs, writing down all their names, so I can make new tags. It had to be opened yesterday, as she has her beautiful rich pnk color this morning! How did I miss such a beauty? Thank you so much Elizabeth, for sharing another wonderful brug! I will try to get a pic this afternoon, if it's not pouring. It is drizzling right now.Yep, it's definately time to stop worrying about things, and to take time to smell the roses...I mean brugs!
Dee

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

I started out yesterday afternoon to get a pic of Adora and it thundered and lighteninged so I decided I better wait til this morning and this is what I found...Maybe this afternoon I can get one with her open. Yep, we got rain too.
I made acouple of tags yesterday, maybe I can finish up today.

Good afternoon, I just got back from the P.O., sent out a bunch of clippings, I clipped them this morning in the rain, it was a slow drizzle so I didn't get drenched, doing them that way I know they will arrive safely, I wrote on the box fragile in big letters,
Dee I am glad you're going to take it easy, you need too smell the Brugs, later on I will post a Pic of my favorite little kitten
she is such a ball of energy

Charlene looking good, that's a pretty one, it looks so healthy
Debra, I know about back problems, I have too do everything different than I used too, those disc can be very painful
I hope you can take it easy

they are so cute!! I forgot to tell you Missy my dog got the end of her ear gone. i guess she did it on lawnmower frame somewhere. I just know she is missing the tip of her ear. Strangest thing to happen in awhile.
She is feeling much better today and so am I. No blood to let me know where it happened. Strange...
Love your kittens., Elizabeth.

Charlene
if I could get max to hold still long enough to take his Pic, he looks like a little teddy bear, so furry, he's going too be a long haired cat like his momma, that is strange that's there's no blood, maybe that's why she feels better, she's a cutie
the kittens find a way too climb up too get into bed with me, then there are all kinds of scratches on my feet, I did find a good home for one of them

Elizabeth

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Elizabeth, they are so cute. You can tell they are loved. they are happy kittys.
she is a lot better today, yesterday she hid all day. It is still a mystery. You will get a pic sooner
or later.

Charleen your twins look great! Poor puppy...
Elizabeth, those kittens are so cute. I love to watch them play when they are little like that....the way they arch their back and run sideways at each other is just too cute!
I finally got a couple pics of Serendipity...then our puter wouldn't connect, untill just a few minutes ago...so here it is...The whole plant is about 18-24 inches tall and the bloom is just barely off the ground, but it is huge and beautiful!

Here's another angle...excuse the dirt splatters...it had been raining, and it is so close to the ground that it got splattered from beneath..

Very pretty Dee. Got another shower so I couldn't get out to snap last night.
the heat must be making the Thunder and Lightening so intense.
You can tell they are opened.

Thanks Charleen, it is my first bloom of the year. Now, I'll be keeping a closer eye on them..lol
It is supposed to rain here this evening and tomorrow.I hope it does, so I don't have to water! I put out a bunch of mixed shrubs across the back of our property in front of the the old fence. So, I am watering them everyday too, in addition to the brugs.Lets just say..it takes a while to get everything watered good, every morning!I need to get some new sprinklers.
Speaking of shrubs...I hit one heck of a sale the otherday.I went to Big R(local farm store) looking for perennials on sale and I hit it just right. They just marked all their big pot to 25 cents and smaller ones to a dime. They didn't have many perennials left, but I got about 10 pots of different salvias and a couple walkers low catmint.BUT, I got 32 mixed shrubs, for $8 total....mostly proven winners... a couple were 5 gallon pots. There are only a couple that looked bad, but I think they will be fine by next year. I got one perennial, that I have no idea what it is, but it has a bloom coming on it, so I bet one of us will know what it is..lol. Anyway..just what I need...more work..lol, but I am working on a mixed shrub border around the whole back yard, so with what I had, already, these should finish that project up.Then I am gonna start coming in with perennials and self sowing annuals.

Lovely plumeria blooms there Elizabeth.. I haven't seen a flower on mine since moving them outside.. but they are charging themselves up for some flower fun.... I've moved them all into a corner.. where they overshadow one another.. they would like it better out alone.. soaking up as much sun as available.. and sitting down on...and out in the middle of a big expance of my 162* F roof.. in full sun....as it is only a 12" seedling of Amarons Curley white... in a 6" clay pot.. no saucer... gets to sit out with a few feeet of open heat around it.. I bet it puts out a new leaf a day that way
pictured from above.. the 6-8 plants that make up the plumeria grove..
.[ grove = jamed back together in a corner ]
Dee.. plumeria get to be about 60' tall.. in Panama I climbed some that were easily that tall...
in Nicaragua.. they were the last tree or anything other than grass... that grew right up to the edge of an open lava pit volcano opening.. sulpher gasses washing over them.. and their roots growing down into the soil over the lava below.. that's how I know they like my unshielded roof temps... and they do...

Elizabeth, how about starting a new thread? Even with DSL, it's taking longer and longer to upload.

Gordon, your garden is looking good!

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Hi Gordon.Plumerias sound like they are one tough plant. They sure are pretty.Your plants look like they are very happy on your hot rooftop.Beautiful, as always!
Dee

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

yes...Dee they are tough in some things.. they don't do cold well at all.. or wet .. and the two of them together... well that's conditions for black tip die back... that can go right down to the roots if bad enough.. they also don't like to go sholder to sholder with other plants... as their branches are tender.. and cut easily... releasing a fountain of a thick white sap... which I've heard is good for cold sores... I don't know this from personal experience .. as I've never had one.
in the wild thye will grow out by themselves.. on the edge of a drop off or cliff... and right along the ocean... roots growing over and into the rock .. surely drinking a good percentage of salt water on an ongoing basis.. all to avod the close contact of another plant.. and to gather as much of the full sun as is possible.. and reflective sun as well...
no plumie blooms... but my cactus bloomed the other day.. and I had 4 blooms open last night on my night blooming cereus.. cactus photo

Well folks, I'm preparing a eulogy for my brug, that I got in Seguin....first it bloomed with two lovely blooms, then half got the majorwilts after a huge rain, I took the advise of some to pot it more toward the shade and put it where my longtime one was before last winters' freezes, and it is all wilty. Not too wet, not too dry, I think it got shocked...don't see any bugs. Poor baby.....I'm now in Va. w the grands, hoping all the rest of the garden survives w hubby....hold a goog thought.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

awww syl, it will be okay.. you will see. Have fun with the grands!

Austin, TX

THX, the grands are a whole 'nother thing....so fine.

Sidenote, the landscaping my son did last spring is really outstanding. Here Hydrangeas fairly leap out of the ground. He trimmed back to 18" in the fall ad now they are 8' tall and full for blooms.
