I have them in a SE corner they are not protected except that they usually blow seeds out of them. Why did you ask that. They seem quite hardy.
Plant propagation part XVI based on my own experience
Jnette they seem quite stocky, not like HH they are more shrubby and less on one stock, some are short. They bloom right from a 4 inch plant up till they grow to the max, which is like7 feet, maybe 6.
I asked because I was wondering why they didn't break off like mine do. I love them but can't grow them because they keep breaking off with the wind. That was why I thought they were protected.
Oh the Hollyhocks are breaking and leaning but some stand. The mystic merlin malva was the one I was talking about that was tougher than hh are with regards to wind.
Good afternoon everyone.
Great pics of the yards beds. they look great. Not much to add today except hot with contued hot followed by night time. tomorrows forcast is the same. lol
Dave
I would like a small amount of each color including the Malva. I have a young man from church coming today o help me get caught up. He is unemployed and a very hard working, organized young man. I plan on working in the landscape all day. Even in 100 degree heat it is OK because we just follow the shade round. Have a great day and stay safe all my friends.
Dave I have not answered your D Mail because I am so far behind but I will sometime this week. And I want to pick your brain on hybridizing daylilies. Do you already have something on DG?
Sharon:
I don't have anything written on DG per say about hybridizing because I am a bit new to it. I would think there would be something listed. I will look to see if I can find something
Dave
I would think with all the interest on daylilies that there would be a forum on them. Take a look.
Jeanette ~ What are you growing this year? Did you get your steam mop yet?
Sharon ~ Stay cool....I am definitely mulching more this year....mulch more....do you have any seeds of that yellow HH?
JB ~ Have you collapsed from the heat?
Dave ~ Feel better...
Dawn ~ Do you have any extra seeds of that malva?
Plantmum6, avianut, ibartoo ~ Whazzup??
Well...I am through digging in that bed. I had a Dr.'s appt today and tomorrow I go to the chiro., So Thursday I will start planting the new bed and then applying, yes, more mulch! The next project will be to start some seeds, take some cuttings and then weed and apply bark in the front and driveway beds. I have to do things in patches, otherwise I will do a bit here and there and it will look like nothing has been done. I need to weed everywhere, and I will admit to stopping and weeding here and there anyway...LOL! Still, I try and focus (FOCUS...) and do one project at a time, well except for the routine watering of everything first.
Have a good night everyone..
This is a tree peony that I will transfer to the new bed in the fall. I think it is in too much shade as it has not bloomed for some time now...
Well Evelyn, yes I will have seeds. But not yet. I also have the rose pink that I rescued. I think I need to find your Grizzy Flats and help you.
Had a grest day and my helper did a whole bunch of back work and I supervised. I did a bunch of work and got too hot twice. He is coming tomorrow and probably the rest of the week. I am so far behind, he will probably save my life.
The greenhouse is finally suppose to be done Friday and then I need to get started there. What a Zoo.
Anyway, I got 25% of the work done today. A whole bunch of irrigation problems and a worker that spoke English and was a very hnard worker. And he learned a lot. I told him, keep it up and you will be a very good landscape helper in a year. You cannot get this education in school. And I pay him $10 per hour cash. You will need no direction if you pay attention. I think he got it but we shall see. Have a wonderful morning tomorrow because I will not appear until late in the day. I have an appointment with a major Nursery for the HOA and then I will be with my worker. I already gave him instructions for the first two hours of the day. Wish me luck. Love you all.
JB, what happened to you? Where did you go? Have been wondering about you.
Evelyn, I am not really growing anything new. I have my tomatoes, peppers, beans, and I planted some bronze fennel. First time for that. Other than that, I am planting the plants I winter sowed, weeding the perennial bed, and planting the decks.
I planted so many seeds it was sick. I always say, never again and turn around and do it all over again the next year. After things get established I will post pictures.
However, I am not one of these people that plant by decor. I always like to try new things so everything normally comes out a hodge podge. But, it is fun to see what they are.
My steam mop is sitting right where I left it the day I got it. I tried it, couldn't figure out why it was so hard to use, hardly any steam, etc. So I gave up. Bob told me the reason I couldn't pump it for steam was because I had the cord wrapped on it. You have to take the cord completely off I guess. Makes sense, however, I didn't want all that cord out there to trip over. Oh well, I have been working in the yard since because I have to pick the days it doesn't rain to do that.
Sharon, you are lucky to get some help, and someone to do it right. That is so good.
I worked out 6 hours today which I haven't done in so long I couldn't believe it. Have a drs. appt. tomorrow which is fine because they are calling for thunder storms.
Sharon ~ If I had a helper, I probably could get a lot more done, but cannot afford to pay anyone, so I will just plod along, avoiding the heat of the day. You are welcome to come over with your helper anytime now...LOL!
Jeanette ~ What all did you W/S? I sowed some outdoors in small containers on the back porch, so I guess you could call it W/S'ing, though I did not use any milk bottles. Just some cool weather veggies, calendulas, bachelor buttons, lupines, alyssum and cosmos. They did better that the ones I started indoors as the ones indoor got dry too quickly so I lost quite a few.... I am about to start more, outdoors and indoors as well as the "Deno method" - paper towel inside a ziplock bag.
OK, it's late now, so good night again!
Hardy ice plant - Delosperma cooperi....
Jnette- Do keep me up-to-date on your floor steamer- I am thinking of getting one (I seem to try almost anything that is "supposed" to make cleaning floors easy) Right now I have a Hoover Floormate (well, actually, 2 of them, by accident, long story) but I can never get them to suck the water back up, I'm sure it's just me not knowing which button to push, but regardless I'm looking for something REALLY easy. So, as I said, do let me know :-)
Tnx! Jill
Hi Everyone,
Not much to tell here. It has been so hot ( and I have been so lazy) that I haven't worked outside all week. That can't last though, I have some seedlings that need to be potted up and everything wants to be fed. I have been staying up with my teenager way too late, and sleeping later in the mornings which means it is already too hot when I get up. My garden can wait though, he is 15 and lots more fun. lol
Jill, I tried the floormate and had the same problem. Then I discovered that I didn't get all of the pieces. ( apparently it was a floor model), I took it back and waited and then bought the shark after I used my Mom's.
Sharon, Come over and bring your helper! i would love that.
Evelyn, that tree peony is gorgeous. I have bought my first peony plants this year. I know they require a lot more cold than we normally get, but I just had to try them. I have them planted in huge pots so that they will get the full effect of the "winter".I will check in later in the day. I do want to get outside for at least a little while.
Have a great day everyone.
Oh gosh, tons of stuff. A lot of rudbeckias and echinaceas, gailardias, ornamental grasses, can't think of it all right now. But only about half of it germinated. But we had a really weird winter. I planted the first of Feb. and it was a really cold winter. Not the deep down cold, but cold for a long time. nights. During the day ok and they would thaw out and then freeze again that night. off and on.
When I start them indoors they were in my kitchen where I checked them a couple times a day. So, I didn't lose many due to drying out.
I have done some the Deno method, Daturas, some beans, etc. but it is not one of my favorite ways.
Hi Linda.
I lost my tree peony. It froze in the pot. A big clay pot on the deck in the winter.
What is the deno method? When I start things on paper towels in ziplock bags, it seems to take twice as long.
Hi Jeanette and everyone.
I had about 80% success with my WS and unheated GH sowing. I will take pictures tomorrow and post them. I have had minor health issues, crappy, rainy weather, life "stuff", so MANY of the seedlings have not been planted out yet. I lost a bunch of babies because they dried out (my fault!)
I have a Shark steam mop, and I love it. In fact, I bought a hand held Shark, as well. I have only used it once, so I still have to get used to it. I bought a real expensive steam cleaner a couple years ago that I love. Unfortunately, it is out in the shop now, and I am too lazy to go get it! Plus, it takes 20 min to build up pressure. I do not have the patience to wait for it for just light cleaning.
I have the hand held and the floor steamer from Shark, the new model. I had the old model and the pad was to small. I have about 3000 sq. ft. of wood floors. I use the smaller one to clean the patio with ultra shining brown covering. I do have a house cleaning crew that comes once a month so I really only have to keep it up. They spend 8 hours once a month with through cleaning.
But I am great gardener, ready to travel to help a friend. I do not like the cold, so must be above 80 degrees. I am 68 years old and work like a horse. I do not stop when I am tired, I stop when I am done. "My father's favorite saying". BUT, right now my DH is having major problems and they can not determine what the problem is. They have looked at every organ and they all come up clear. He has been in the hospital twice for kidney failure due to dehydration in the last two months. When he was in the hospital they discovered he was 2 pints low in blood. They put him on oxygen, fluids and blood. He is 77 and weights 138 pounds and is 5'9". He has always been slender at about 156, nothing where we are today. So now I am taking over major of the year in his life. Here drink this, here eat this, and please do not ask me any questions. LOL.
OMG, this is a full time job and after over 46 years together, married 36, this is my most important task I can do everyday. I would not know what to do without him. We have grown up together and everyday he looks worse. I think we are headed to Mayo in the East. But maybe this will pass and all my "nagging:" will make him eat. He worked out every week 3 times a week and has not worked out for many months. Can barely make it to the mail box which is three houses up the street. Just keep us in your thoughts and prayers and know I will take care of this.
Love you all. Baby Luke is doing great and I see him on Skipe every night,.
Morning Gals and Guys, I have been busy tryin to keep plants alive, we have had the 90 deg heat for almost a week with little or no rain. It is really getting scary. Our baby trees are beginning to show some stress.
On top of that Barney, my 14 y.o. Jack Russell got sick and I had to take him to the vet . I took him in on an emergency basis because he would not stop vomiting just foam, and I was not sure if he was having a heart attack or what. So. I get him there , no appointment, we walk in and he proceeds to crap all over the clean floor with bloody diarrhea, what a mess, so they took us in first. LOL. My dog knows how to get attention. Two shots, fluids and 189.00 bill, we came home and about 3:30 p.m. he starts again and another mess all over my good carpet, from one end to the other. I almost cried.
But, we got it cleaned up and the vet said it is a virus that will last 24 hours, bloody poops and all. Thanks a hell of a lot, why didn't she tell me that before. I thought he had a tumor that burst becasue the blood just ran out his rectum and it was scary. This running in and out and straining went on until 3:00 a.m. this morning when I actually was so exhausted I fell asleep on the couch. Doggie door was open to he could go in and out, but the cats are eager to learn how to come in that door, so I hate to levae it open, but I did, and
no cats came in and about six a.m. the dog kissed my nose and got me awake, so I have had 3 hours sleep and it is already 80 deg. and I must take him back for some more fluids today. Oh dear, I am just not looking forward to another damn hot day with a sick dog. WAAAAAAAA! He is better and of course, sleeping. He did eat some chicken today, Had nothing but a cracker about midnight all the day. I am sure he will be o.k. but will I. LOL Hugs. Thanks for being concerned of my whereabouts. I am working on propagating begonias but am at a standstill just now. Nothing gets done when Barney is sick. Later. JB
Gosh you guys, so awful.
Lynn, glad to have you back. Haven't heard from you in a long time. Hope you are better now. If you got 80% of what you planted, you had a lot of plants to take care of. I couldn't believe how many you winter sowed.
Very sorry about your husband Sharon, sure hope they can find what the problem is. Could it be depression? I know that is like stress, can cause a lot of problems without realizing that is what it is.
JB that sounds just terrible. How is Barney doing now? Much better I hope for your sake.
BTW, did you get a package I sent you?
Dave, where are you today? evelyn, and Dawn? Linda checked in. LOL, maybe that shark is going to keep people on here. If I get mine working one of these days, and like it, I just might get a hand held too. I am thinking about cleaning my kitchen counters, tubs, showers, etc. Do you guys think that would work? What do you use the hand held ones for?
I have a center island of Butcher Bock and it works on that and I use it on the stove cook top, just about anywhere I clean. I have actually use my old mop on the back patio. Cleans better than anything else. Since I brought the bigger one for the house, I do not feel to bad.
The young man helping me with the garden the last two days did a great job. I am now just about caught up. Did a whole bunch of drip system rehab and also added additional line for hanging baskets. Also got 4 new pots, not new to the back yard, just new to being ready to plant. They are full of soil and hooked up to the drip so I just need to transplant something into them. I have a bunch of baby Hardy Hibiscus that I am going to put in two and I got two of the new hybrid Oleanders which are already in two pots. So I only have 5 large pots to plant but that will be easy because they are ready.
You guys need to Google Oleanders. You will not believe the new varieties they have. I dislike Oleanders but the new ones actually look more like a very tropical flower. The flower is twice as large as the old ones. I was shocked to see some at Lowes but they only had white and pink. I bought one of each.
When I get the baskets completed this weekend I will get you all a photo or two. After the baskets, I should be done for the summer except for the greenhouse.
DH is still looking terrible but he is eating whatever I put in front of him. I am going to encourage him to take a short walk with me and then everyday just add a little bit to it. I really do not think it is depression. I think he just got down physically because of the polyp bleed and the dehydration. I am on his continually on his hydration. I do not say a word, just hand him another concoction I make up in his 24 oz container with a straw and say, "Here Baby Cakes". And then when I see it is about 1/3 down I add some electrolyte water. I have his built in warning system. When he is hydrated, he does not snore.
Have a great day everyone and be safe and also all your animals be safe. .
Barney is doing well today, thanks for asking. No, I did not get any packages if you were talking to me.
It is 101 in the greenhouse now, severe weather warning......I am going to hide in the bathroom. LOL. At least I will be near the pot in an emergency.
Think I will take a nap. I need to keep him quiet and I am so sleepy just playing games on the internet I can hardly sit up.
Talk later. Thanks again. JB
JB, It wasn't really a package. A manilla envelope. Bob said he sent it the 16th. So that is 8 days minus 2 for the weekend, so 6 days. Guess it hasn't had time to get there.
Jeanette
Dave ~ Feel better....
Sharon ~ I am SO sorry about your husband....he will be in our thoughts and prayers. I am 68 as well, but, alas, I have no helper. So sometimes I do not finish until I get back to it, though I do stick with a project until done.
JB ~ And I am SO sorry about Barney, AND your carpet! Awful mess! I hope he is better now.
Jeanette ~ We all look forward to your pictures...
Lynn ~ The plants I sowed outdoors are doing better than the ones I sowed indoors, as they have a tendency to dry quicker than I can water at times, so I lost quite a few. The ones that I sowed outside are now in the partly-shaded nursery area and most of them are fine except when I had to go into town twice in a row. Hopefully they have recovered. Still, consistency is the key to healthy plants.
Jill ~ I have had the Shark steam mop for quite a while. Oh, they get the floor SO clean! The newer ones may be an improvement...see Sharon's post on hers.
ibartoo ~ The Deno method is just paper towels inside the ziplock bag. This link might be helpful...
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6317736
Summer is here now with a low of 60° and a high of 80°, yesterday, though in the largest nearby city, Sacramento - 50 miles away - the highs are in the 90's and is predicted to get to 100° in the next few days. Of course, 50 miles in the opposite direction is Lake Tahoe with predicted highs of high 60's to a low of 45°- 49°. So we are pretty much in the middle here in the Sierra foothills.
Have a good day everyone. And don't work out in the heat too much.
Mini rose in the "Peach of a Garden".....
Edited to fix the link...my silly typing fingers do not know where to go sometimes...or is it my brain??LOL!!!

Hi everyone,
Wow, seems like everybody is in the midst of something tough.
JB I am so sorry to hear about Barney, I hope he is better today. It has been so hot today i didn't even go out to see if anything was blooming. I went to the grocery store and have stayed in since.
Sharon, I am sorry to hear about your DH too. I sure hope the doctors can find what is causing it. My dh is older too and I have the same position in his life are you are holding now. It's not easy, but i do understand. he is 22 years older than I.
Evelyn thanks for the info on the Deno method. I have done that and just never realized that it had a name.
I have had an email from Dave today. He said he is feeling better, but his mother is having her reconstructive surgery today and he is with her and probably will be for another day or so.
I hope you can all get cool and comfy. Tomorrow is going to be even hotter here than today.
HI everyone:
I am back and mom is doing fine she is building strength and hopes to go back to work on monday, of course it will be a short day because I expect she will wear down by noon. Her boss is good about the health stuff so she wont have any guff about going home.
Its been a cat in a room full of rockers trying to keep everyone watered well. I did get a new timer to controll both outside and the green house so I will be able to get more done without having to water 3 times a day in the greenhouse. and of course the green house is small enough to do in 10 min or less.
I am sorry to hear about your hubby sharon. I don't know where I would be without Kim. you are in my prayers.
JB: I am praying for Barney also. Its tough to see anyone with that kind of illness even our animals become like family to us. I hope by now he his doing better.
well we are in the upper 90's this week and no rain expected. we did get a cold front today and it only hit 95 degrees. I am on a early am work afternoon nap and evening water so I am doing ok. sorry I could only fire one email off as I was on the run.
stay cool more tomorrow
Dave
You guys need to get a life. Today our high was 104 and low will probably be 82. Just got my power bill for last month. $335. Now you must understand that it is lower in the Winter but it has never been less than $200. We have installed 3 different energy saving pumps, one for the Koi pond and the other for the swimming pool. We shall see if that works. Or I can sell my Koi for a couple thousand a piece and fill in the Koi pond and make it a beautiful garden. Our Winters are very mild and our heating never tops $125.00. Most of the time it is $50 to $60. Because Southwest people do not get cold because it only gets to 32 degrees here so we just open the doors and let the air flow through because the sun is shining and we do not even know it is Winter. And at night we have great Warming Blankets that are green and do not use much energy and keep mus warm., Last resort we cuddle but that usually makes us to hot.....

Hey, Sharon...maybe an investment in solar panels might be practical for you...
No, we don't need to get a life Sharon. Nobody is stuck where they have to be. If you really don't like where you live, get up and move. That goes for everybody.
We can all about the weather and are pretty lucky if that is all we have to complain about.
Good idea evelyn.
I feel so sorry for those people in the gulf states that no matter how much I hate the heat I feel guilty. I can not believe they can not plug that leak. I think all of us are having a bit of a stress over our plants. We can stay inside but our plants are in the midst of it all. I thought about moving until I realized no matter where you lie there is always something that will not be the way we would like it to be. My dream before my husband died, was to give up gardening , buy a houseboat and live on it. Just follow the good weather up and down the InterCoastal waterway until I found a good day and then have a drink and go fishing. Now that is what two old Marine Corp retireees dream about. Then he up and died, leaving me with nobody who shared my dream and no body to run the damn boat. I thought of hiring a young, cute guy but then I decided my kids would have a rip fit if I did that. LOL. My kids are so funny. Believe me, a cute young guy would only serve ONE purpose for me.....run the stinkin boat. LOL I just enjoy being surounded by pretty people. Makes me feel pretty. My Godl, the heat is getting to me.
Barney is eating and taking his oral meds again. He is completely exhausted and we do not go walking each day in this heat so I am getting fat and sassy.
I am sorry is missed out on the illnesses of all of your loved ones. Forgive me. I did not seeem to appear disinterested. I was just occupied in my own problems. Hope all is well for all of you. Hugs and Prayers.
turned down two oders this morning for peace lilies and other tropicals. Now here is an example of one order this morning. "I need 15 peace lilies, two blooms on each, full greens in 6"pots by July 12 for a wedding center piece." ...........we will pick up.......
No S***! I would love to have 15 peace lillies with two blooms on them, except just now they are all withered up, not blooming and I only have about 6 of all sizes. HA! They have no clue what a 100 deg. temp in the greenhouse can do to plants. I just love people. New bride and broom will nead all the peace lilies they can get with the economy the way it is now. No one can afford fresh flowers justnow. I bet this is the fifth wedding I turned down because they wanted like a dozen "perfect" plants tof their tables.
Rambling again. Sorry. Talk later. Enjoy your day. Hugs.
LOL, JB, I didn't mean that we all should go looking for things to about besides the weather.
I'll bet your kids would love it if you had a cute young guy to run a boat around up and down the coast for you.
You sure did have your hands full. I can't even imagine cleaning up all that mess pour little Barney made. He must have ended up really dehydrated after that bout. So glad he is better.
People actually do place orders like that huh? They need to get flowers that are being imported now. Those things are so gross. And no nice smells. JB, have they hybridized the plants to look so nice that they have taken the good smell out of them? It has been so long since I have seen a nice smelling rose. Not since my mom died. She had almost 60 roses in her yard. She loved all flowers, but not like her roses.
Well you all, have a nice day, gotta get busy before it gets too hot. Suppose to be 78 today. LOL, sorry.
LOL It is so fun in this group. We do cover alot of good things, and then there are days like today when we just go on and on and say nothing of any interest to anyone.
I would much rather laugh and giggle instead but there are those days when a list such as that would be good to have.
My PC is on the blink. I was doing a virius scan and it stopped with a big old error. Now I am waiting for my computer tech to call me so I can get back to business. The laptop is not my favorite.
I think you have a point about the frangance of some plants. Where did they go. I have about 8 big blooms on the Aimee Gardenia and I but a few of them and brought them in and wow, what a neat smell in my house. I just love the fragrance of gardenias and jasmine.......not in perfume form, only on the plants. Hmmmm that is interesting. I wonder why I can not stand the perfume form?
I must get busy. Later
JB ~ I know what you mean...some days we just want to "reach out and touch" someone, and feel the love...what we say may not be of much importance but the comraderie....
Jeanette ~ Do you remember any of the names of your Mom's roses?
All of us have our weather issues...too hot, too cold, too much snow at the wrong time...it gives us something to talk about. Yes, JB, those on the Gulf Coast are in for a horrible time...I hope that many of them can afford to move, but I know many of them, as before, have such a strong sense of community that they love their neighbors as themselves and want to stick it out no matter how horrible...and what state was completely flooded this winter? Was it Rhode Island? I cannot imagine having the whole state under water and no where to go... So in the light of those tornadoes, floods, earthquakes and tsunamis, I feel greatful for the snow in our wintertime, and even in the spring as many others have a less fortunate circumstance, though I may not see it that way at the time...LOL! And yes, I will holler about it, but hopefully not so much that it annoys everyone....as everyone on this planet will have something going on in their lives, even if it isn't the weather.
Sharon ~ I sure hope that your hubby is better...any update on his condition?
Dave ~ I do not have any timers, but may be getting some soon, as it is getting hot and dry here now. Today has been an exception as it did actually rain last night, though it was just supposed to rain in the mountains, and the relative humidity is up to 82%, so I suppose the rest of this year will hold many surprises. We rarely get summer rains. Right now it is 62° with a light breeze blowing. It is absolutely delightful, so I suppose we had better enjoy it while it lasts. How is your mother doing? Too bad she has to go back to work....
Sharon ~ I tried the hardiest white oleander, but it still died during the winter...I tried a pretty peach-colored one as well. They are great for a summer annual. I think I will stick to what I can grow from seed for my summer annuals, once I get the timing right. It really annoyed me to have to "buy in" summer color. My petunias are still growing, but I just started them too late. Hopefully I will do better next year, as this was the first year that I tried so many new things...
Linda ~ How is the weather on the island today?
Lynn ~ Any pictures of your wintersowing results??
Jeanette ~ Any of yours?
Well, I will be going now...I will be back tomorrow, as I will leave this phone line open for a call from one of my granddaughters. I hope you all have a wonderful day.
My first peas...
My favorite vegetable is peas, right out of the pod. In Las Vegas, they are planted end of August for winter vegetable. They never hit inside the house. My mother used to make creamed new potatoes and peas. I love that. I need to look up that recipe.
We are 106 today but in my shade it is about 95. My trees and mulch keep the heat down and if the sun is not shining right down on your, it really is OK. But you drink about 5 gallons of water a day.
I made a Coleus run today because many of my over wintered did not make it and I have my new rehabbed pots to fill.
I would find it hard to leave Las Vegas because the majority of my family is here or near by. Todd is now in Spokane with his family but flights are reasonable.
When I tell anyone to get a life, I am kidding.
I just love this group and I have learned about propagating and Life. I like the Life part best. We are all st different parts of the weather system. I now worry about the high winds and heavy rain in Oklahoma. Late snow in Northeast California. Rain all the time in Washington and Oregon. Flying greenhouse roofing panels in New Jersey. Do not hear to much about the weather in South Carolina.
My brother is on his way to San Diego with this total family for a week. They are dropping by to puck up the beach equipment and said to have lunch ready so I guess I had better think about something for lunch. Maybe some chicken Panini sandwiches. I do have some ripe tomatoes in the garden.
DH is just about the same but that is good because he is not any worse. I hand him a new container of something liquid about every two hours. My recipe is loaded with liquid vitamins, pro bioethics, electrolytes, protein and carbs. If I was drinking it I would gain 100 pounds. My fridge looks like a juice bar at a health club. I went to the lung specialist today and lungs are fine but sinus is causing lungs a problem because of drainage so now I am going to ENT for the sinus. I love this Doctor. He spent 20 minutes with me, asking questions and explaining why he was doing what he was doing. I stopped taking all my meds about 5 months ago because I thought I had to many and no one was paying attention. One thing I have been on for over 10 years was blood pressure medicine. Today my blood pressure was 120/70. No Celebrex and still no back pain. If I get any pain I take a Tylenol.
Lastly, I edited a post above because I had our heat never over $1250. That was suppose to be $125. Sorry. Have a great day. I am going to garden later in the evening.
He is getting fried chicken, smothered (slow cooked) in gravy and then he eats it with roasted garlic mashed potatoes for dinner. I will have a great salad with roasted chicken. My biggest problem is learning how to build a small salad. It is the family joke.
JB, I can understand your pain of your mate leaving you with your joint dream. Many of my friends have been left in that situation. The couple down the street were both prize winners in the Rose Society, married for 45 years. In two weeks he went from fine to deceased. Maybe when we get to heaven we can go.
Wow, I guess it has been busy everywhere. when I lived in the mojave desert years ago, I remember those days of 106-110. There though everything is so dry that to me it didn't seem as hot as when you add in the humidity. ( or maybe I have just become whiny in my old age. LOL) Today is gorgeous. You know what I miss the most about being in the desert it that it got cool at night. It doesn't cool off here when the sun goes down.
DH and I mapped out the re-design for the front yard yesterday, but I stayed up too late last night to have any inclination to go out and move plants today. With my son having his own vehicle, hubby getting a boat and myself inheriting the miata again, parking is going to be quite the puzzle.
We have talked about re-designing it for a long time, now it just has to become a priority. Hubby often asks why things don't bloom that much and I delight in telling him it is because he never lets anything get established before he decides it has to be moved. LOL He loves to re-arrange things. If he had a day off and I didn't, I would come home to a house completely re-arranged. I used to laugh and tell him it was good that I wasn't blind because I would trip all over things.
i have a new daylily blooming today so I want to get outside and take pictures. My hibiscus are just starting and my brugs are way too far behind. I think I need to feed everything.
Anyway, if I get a chance I will post a picture of the new daylily, ( ok it isn't "new" it just hasn't bloomed before.)
Hope everyone has a great day.
Hi everyone:
I am kind of that way with my plants (remove and replace), but it lets me get things arranged perfectly. The one difference is that I do leave some things in their spot and try to make it nicer.
I know I am planning to remove a few things from the back corner bed as its just too crowded. I like a full bed but nothing smashed or over grown. It really has told me how to treat some of the dwarf hostas as well. I was thinking that all they needed was their room but its tough to see when it's behind the larger anchor plants.
Linda: agree the humid heat is a bit harder to live with than the dryer heat. but once you get over 95 its all just too hot.
Dave
Ibartoo I too love the lack of humidity here and agree that if it gets 110 here it is not as miserable as 89 with 90% humidity. You can sleep, because, with very little exception, it is dry and cool in the night. We rarely ever have those days that are over 110 or 115 anymore, with the climate change, and that is only in Aug. or Sept. Usually it stays around 100 degrees during July and June always has June Gloom from the Ocean so it has been in the 80's and low 90's this month.
Evelyn yes I will send peach hollyhock seeds and MM Malva too. Both freely sow, but are easy to kill too.
My peach ones have just started to flower. Most of the other ones that are in dry areas are starting to die back so I can send Sharon her seeds. They Will soon be dry enough. I have a few that just started to bloom, but then I will cut them down low or wack or pull them, so they don't seed in some areas where I don't want seeds. They are over taking one garden too much in the Spring and nothing else gets sun, that is smaller.
hellnzn11, do you still have the 80 mile an hour winds? I sure remember those. Your hollyhocks sound gorgeous. I have a zebrina malva that has bloomed it's heart out this year, but my normal hollyhocks didn't come back this year.
Today has been great. Not too hot, but I have had no chance to get outside. We are having a BBQ with friends tonight and i have been trying to get caught up.
Dave, do you grow any hosta from seed? I have some seed soaking and I plan to get them started tomorrow. The area we are moving the flower bed to will be much shadier than the center of the drive. I will try to send pics as we progress. It is going to be interesting. Needless to say, I have an abundance of plants. Here is the daylily I promised this morning. I wish I knew it's name., I would love to have more like it.
Just got back from Niece's daughter's dance recital. DH actually went with me. This is the first time he has left the house except to go to the doctor. I just had a cool drink and now I m headed outsiddm to plants my pots. I will take a before and after.
