That's what I like!! A thread that really takes off! (lol!)
- figured you could use a breather victor, ☺

- Keep em coming Tex! ☺!

Last for now - Heriitage rose again in its perfectly formed cupped petals.

Beautiful Tex!

Long Branch, NJ(Zone 7a)

I wish I got more to show. Give me another week or so. LOL!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I had 2 Graham Thomas, lost one this winter. I'm partial to yellow roses so I think i'll have to check out that Sky's the Limit!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

'Heritage', nice pink one, resistant to black spot I assume!

'Dream Come True' under a setting sun...
(got DW to finish the other half of the rug) lol!

I found that David Austins and other old roses are less maintenance than these new hybrids. Sky's the Limit is fairly new so I can't tell you if it got any problems. Every breeder claims their roses are disease resistant and such and such. DA's roses, once established, seems like impossible to 'kill' and very disease resistant.

Tex ECHS ALREADY!!! Give my a BREAK dear bud! I am SO NOT showing that pic to my garden! dum de dum de dum (pretending I didn't see that pic) dum de dum de dum.

Long Branch, NJ(Zone 7a)

You know what D-nut, I maybe in NJ but my plants think they're in a totally different zone. LOL! Yeah, I got echies 3 feet tall already and most got buds on them already.

Here's one more I forgot to post - Yarrows/Achilleas starting to show their colors.

Many beauties, Tex. How many roses do you have?

Love that last one, WC.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

What blooms in late summer for you Tex besides the roses? Your phlox & rudbeckias must show early too? O DUH there be dahlias ^_^ ^_^ ^_^ ok I just did a dance of joy about THAT!

Long Branch, NJ(Zone 7a)

Victor - just about 45 or so, but the count keeps on growing. LOL!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Do you have landscape or shrub roses?? Favorites? I am only interested in zero-work roses from now on! No pruning, deadheading or spraying. That's what I love about the Oso Easy ones.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

:O There be such roses?!?!? I thought you always have to deadhead for continual blooms???

Long Branch, NJ(Zone 7a)

D-nut - did you just mentioned the magic word - DAHLIA??!! LOL!
What blooms in summer aside from roses? Hmmm, obviously Dahlias, then I got the lilies. Don't even ask me how many I have. every nook and crannies got lilies on them. LOL! Hydrangeas, Guillardas, rudbeckias, leucanthemums, helenium, salvias, yarrows, and of course echinaceas! Phlox - also added newer varieties this year. Also started on newer varieties of Hollyhocks. Hibiscus - just recently received hybrids from a co-op on the 'other' site. Then some annuals - sunflowers, verbenas. I can't think of anything else
Additional fall flowering plants would be mums, NY & New England asters, and Montauk Daisies.

Here's a Figaro (Dwarf) dahlia.

Victor - your best bet will be Knock-Out roses and Carpet Roses. I got those also. Totally maintenance free. They now have double varieities and several colors. There's another newer kind, can't think of the name off hand. Knock-out is a shrub, Carpet Rose - as the name suggests more of a groundcover.

But I found the more traditional roses more beautiful and most rewarding.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I have one Knock-out. Supposed to be pink but it's way too red. The Oso Easy Peachy Cream is fantastic. Blooms its head off constantly from May through frost.

Long Branch, NJ(Zone 7a)

Victor - Drift Roses was the other kind I'm trying to suggest.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks.

Thomaston, CT

I really loved the rose photos, Tex & WC...I have one DA rose....Strawberry Hill...which is showing color. I'll post it when it blooms. Jo, my verbascum never reseeds, but when it's been in a few years, I start more from seed, they are easy to start. I bought a pack of phoencium hybrids at Ward's the other day, & I just sprinkled them in the garden.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Love all the roses!!!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Tex, do you pinch back the Montauk daisies?

I am overwhelmed by all the pretties!

Long Branch, NJ(Zone 7a)

Jan - Yes I do. Otherwise they will get too leggy. As with any other fall flowering plants I pinch them twice or 3 times (depending on variety) prior to the general rule - which is by or before the 4th of July. I just pinched them like about 3 weeks ago. I also cut it back to the ground around late winter.
Montauk Daisy I think is the most well behaved plant ever. It stays as a single plant, does not reseed, and no offsprings. Cuttings are very easy to grow or root. Just stick it in the ground and it will grow.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

... planted (3) 6" pots of monarch daisies last year in the fall and now I have a cluster 3' x 2' wide!
- How do you stop them is what I'd like to know! lol!!

Looking forward to seeing Strawberry Hill! ☺

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I need to do some pinching. I did some mums already, cuz they bloomed in July last year, but kept it up even into the fall, but they were leggy.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

loved the tex show!

Long Branch, NJ(Zone 7a)

Watercan - what are 'Monarch Daisies'?

Long Branch, NJ(Zone 7a)

Thank you Bill! I always envy your landscape and hardscape.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Montauk - typo...

Long Branch, NJ(Zone 7a)

Oh, in that case, as I mentioned above just cut it down or pinched the stems. Then you may have to do it again around July 4th,

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

About 1/3 of the height? - like when you trim bushes??
- these guys grew like crazy, going on 3' already!

Long Branch, NJ(Zone 7a)

A matter of preference. If you want it short and bushy cut each stem to about 2-3 inches.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Thanks!
