How could Los Angeles have a high of 66 today?
Thought for the day Number Seven
Coldest summer I ever remember, Sharon. It's why I'm so cold. Got some cloud movement since yesterday. Hoping it's moving east for our neighbors in AZ.
My thought for today, stolen from a TV show I was watching late last night. I have found it to be true in my experience.
"Truth is the currency of love."

"No such thing as bad student, only bad teacher. Teacher say, student do."
Mr. Miyagi, The Karate Kid
kwan, does the quote by Mr. Miyagi predate the one by Yoda in Star Wars? I figure if anyone knows, you will. LOL!
"Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by people
not smart enough to know they were impossible."

Just had to add this one today.
"Don't pity the girl with one true friend. Envy her.
Pity the girl with just a thousand acquaintances."
~Katie Obenchain~
I am thankful for my many friends, they make my world a better and brighter place.

Yoda stated his "Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try." in 1980, whereas, Mr Miyagi said, "No such thing as bad student, only bad teacher. Teacher say, student do." in 1984. So Yoda had his line before. However, Mr. Miyagi was paraphrasing an old Japanese proverb. I think. So, by default, Mr. Miyagi wins.
Another 'however', however...
Blaming a teacher for a student faults is not right. The student has every bit of responsibility as the teacher for succeeding. If you only TRY, you will not SUCCEED. If you do not DO, you cannot SUCCEED. So...the 'Do...or do not' line goes with 'only bad teacher', if the TEACHER does not 'do'.
"Go, find balance."
Mr. Miyagi
Thanks for the clarification. I would have put real money down on it being something Mr. Miyagi said. Was unsure of the timing of the release of the two movies.
Both are correct.
A teacher should not only teach, but inspire.
A student should not only be open to learning, but also to learn to question what they are taught.
A student can not learn from an indifferent teacher.
I know. I've had teachers who inspire their students, and I've had others that make the subject so boring you are willing to drop the class to avoid the teacher, and worse yet, you may never master that subject because you had a lousy teacher.
For me that class was Chemistry. I learned more from a substitute teacher in two days than I did from our "real teacher", in a whole year. He was quite a character, and not a good teacher.
I digress.
Thank you for answering my question, kwan. : - )
I was being forgetful again. : - P
Going to find balance!

A Garden is a human thing
See how its wee hands cling
Its blossoms toss and tease you, its vines run
Laughing to meet the sun
Griefs cannot cling, for joys their solace lend
To one who has a garden for a friend
~ Mary Carolyn Davies
Die when I may, I want it said of me, by those who know me best that I always plucked a thistle, and planted a flower where I thought a flower would grow.

Very Good, evelyn_inthegarden. : - )
Loved the poem.
Beautiful quotes tonight! My sister just sent me this one, and I knew you would appreciate it on this thread:
Creativity is so delicate a flower that praise tends to make it bloom while discouragement often nips it at the bud. ~~Alex Osborn

I think everyone has stepped up today. Nice job, all.
As for Rosmarie, I lette it run alle over my garden walls, not onlie because my bees love it, but
because 'tis the herb sacred to remembrance; and therefore to friendship, when a sprig of it hath a
dumb language that maketh it the chosen emblem in our funereal wakes, and in our buriall grounds.

Simple, elegant, beautiful.
Hey, what happened to the rest of my post?
I also liked the Abraham Lincoln quote, evelyn. I liked todays quote too! : - )
Sweet quote, Angie.

SW You quoted " A friend is someone who knows what you're saying even when you're not talking" I really, really love that! Those type of friends are so few and far between. We need to cherish them and let them know what they mean to us. Life is way to short to let those moments of such closeness in spirit fly away into the wind and disappear without taking notice of them and giving them the reverence they deserve.

Well said, Sylvia.

He who loves an old house
Will never love in vain -
For how can an old house
Used to sun and rain,
To lilac and to larkspur,
To arching trees above,
Fail to give its answer
To the heart that gives its love?
From The Stillmeadow Road by Gladys Taber
She said she did not compose this but was given to her by a friend. The lines were found on a wall panel in an old house built before the Revolution in Concord, MA.
Happy St. Swithin's Day!
What kwan said, goes twice for me, dillansnana. : - )
I've heard that one before kwan, but it's still true! It is also an old NAI saying. : - )

Sorry Evelyn, we sort of cross posted. I started to write, and was distracted by an unseasonal (for us) Thunderstorm. No watering today! : - )
Loved the old poem from the old wall. I guess walls can too talk. LOL! Really good one! : - )

Woo, hoo! A thunderstorm! None here today, not a cloud in the sky. Sometime we can hear the booming from thunder in the Sierras from here, when there are clouds out that way, but nothing today.
Sorry....what does WIB stand for? I am sure you explained it to someone, and now I forgot already.
Evelyn,
No worries. : - )
I swiped the phrase from my Dinee' (Navajo) friends. It's part Prayer and part Blessing.
Since you asked, here is the whole thing.
Navajo Prayer
In beauty may we dwell.
In beauty may we walk.
In beauty may our male kindred dwell.
In beauty may our female kindred dwell.
In beauty may it rain on us.
In beauty may our corn grow.
In beauty all around us may it rain.
In beauty may we walk.
The beauty is restored.
Hozho
(Hozho, means all that is good, favorable, desirable, beautiful, pleasant, peaceful and harmonious; it also refers to those qualities and conditions in which they exist, and our desire to attain that state .)
Walk In Beauty!
SingingWolf
Oh! How lovely, Evelyn!
I feel blessed now. Thanks, SW.
I may have posted this one before but a friend reminded me of it...
"May you be in Heaven a half an hour before the Devil knows you're dead."
“May flowers always line your path and sunshine light your day.
May songbirds serenade you every step along the way.
May a rainbow run beside you in a sky that's always blue.
And may happiness fill your heart each day your whole life through.”
Both from the Irish
Kwanjin,
I'd heard the first Irish Proverb before, but not the Blessing.

I'm going to bore you all with another quote from the movies.

kwanjin,

Who was it who said that "Climate is what we expect, but weather is what we get"? It's so true.
Sharon, that's way too hot at night. I've gotten used to it cooling down at night, and for all except a few nights in the summer that is how it is, at home.
Sure kwan, you'll win us a million dollars. I take it Millionaire is one of those TV Game shows? As long as you don't give the answer out loud like EB#2 does we'll be fine. He drives me nuts when he does that! LOL! It's endearing in it's own way. He has to compete with himself, and he always gets them right. He really likes Jeopardy. Big Brothers can be a hard act to follow. LOL!
More tomorrow!

SW, I had to look that one up. Apparently, Mark Twain said it. And it IS true.
Thanks kwanjin. I left my funny sayings and quotes at home. Can't find the copy I thought I made of some on my lap top, but I must have misfiled them. I'll keep looking.
I do appreciate you looking it up. I love Mark Twain. : - )
It's hard to get on line here, and it takes forever for photos to load.
I am very grateful, even still to have access to the internet. : - )
