Onions laying down

DUHHH Call me Dumb..for the life of me I did not understand what you all ment by Bulb.... Iknow you are all laughing so hard you cant see the screen... But the "Bulb" went off after doing research as suggested and I see now what I am looking for... LOLOL OK I am now laughing at myself... My onions are much bigger in the garden than in the containers, so I will be using them for the Big ones.. and the containers for the salad onions..

I am glad I can make you all laugh... ;~}

I'm pretty sure we're laughing WITH you, not at you, having all "been there, done that" at one time or another..

the dumbest thing I ever did in the garden? Years (and years) ago DH and I had gone smelt fishing (okay, that's probably a whole 'nother story for anyone not from the Mich. upper peninsula, suffice it to say they're kind of like herring and for years they would come up the rivers and creeks from Lake Mich., so thick you could dip a net in and have at least 20 pounds; this was usually done at nighttime, accompanied by bonfires and beer drinking)

anyway, we had a huge overabundance of smelt, they're good to eat but a pain to clean, so we decided to "plant" them with our corn for fertilizer, the way the Native Americans once did. Really, REALLY bad idea -- the skunks were in heaven and our corn was plowed up before it had a chance to sprout! I'm no longer sure the Indians really used fish to grow their crops the way my grade school textbooks made it sound...

Ahahaha!!! That is so funny! We did something similar to that last year. Well, I didn't, my husband did (I'm not taking credit for that one, lol!) He had the bright idea to fertilize his fruit trees with a huge bucket of fish guts and heads from the seafood market. We ended up with a whole lot of buzzards in the front yard....they were fussing and fighting with each other, perching on top of the house, just making a whole lot of noise! Our dogs had a wonderful time chasing them off every time we let them out to pee! Of course, they came back after the dogs were back inside. They were gone in a couple of days, but that memory lingers on, LOL!

Just say NO to using fish in the garden!

When I was growing up, the weirdo neighbors (but really nice folks) who lived next door used to do everything organic and never run their AC and we're talking down in South Texas where it gets hot. ANyway, they'd go fishing and come back, clean the fish and then throw the fish heads into their gardens! It would drive my dogs NUTS and all the wildlife would come out to play.

My hubby is in the next room and is probably wondering what I'm laughing at in here - thanks for the giggles!

MissJestr Here's a link that explains the difference between true bulbs tubers, corms, etc.

I just wanted to let everyone know I am enjoying fresh onions from the garden. They dont get a chance to lay down, much less dry out for saving... They are yummy and next year I will plant twice as much. Although the ones that are in the container are not growing as well, they are still good for the salad....
