I switched the grain I throw out back for doves and native sparrows from chicken scratch to a bird seed blend with less cracked corn and more milo, a little millet, wheat, sunflower and peanuts. Now I'm seeing birds that used to never eat there on the ground. This is what the Lazulis are eating.
Some gold in that red shale.
DAILY PICS VOL. 319
Wow, Duc. Some terrific shots. I especially favor the Double Crested Cormorrant and the Mallards, and Western Turtle one!
Daddy BB brought 3 of the babies for a visit to the back yard yesterday. They are underneath a suet cake and Daddy is feeding them crumbs. He is in the tree and they are begging him. One learned to eat from the ground, the other two depended on Daddy's feedings. I have lots of baby birds in the yard right now-- BB's, chickadees, WP's HOSP's, House Finches. May is a great birding month.
Lily, there aren't any Lazulis in that shot, but that is where they feed. The light has been so bad the past few days, it's hard to get a good shot of them. Raining now and from the looks of radar, will be all day. This is one of two males I've seen. This one isn't as brightly colored and the sun isn't shining, so he looks kinda washed out. There are 3 out there this a.m. feeding in the rain.
I almost missed this whole thread! Wonderful photos everyone.
Mrs. Ed, don't know if I'm more jealous of the baby robins or the lilac bush!
Miss Mary, I've got some baby starlings too, but not a cute pic like that.
Adel, I had a Wilson's warbler wake me up one morning a few weeks ago when it flew into the window when the sun was just scratchin' the horizon. It perched dazed about a foot from the window but too dark. I didn't get one photo. Love 'em though!
Frank, great shots all!
Duc, cool Western Grebes. Wow.
Finally got an OK pic of pair of Wood Ducks. I took it before walking all the way out on the dock. That's why that awful rail is in front, but I knew they'd fly away if I took one more step which they did after I took this photo.
Frank...wonderful series of some beautiful birds. Love those Baby Blues!
Lily...your little Wren is so cute, ours are missing most of the time although I hear them in the upper tree line where they nest.
Nanny...I have seen Thrashers but still have not gotten one shot this spring!
Duc...another great series...love the Yellow-headed Blackbirds.
Red...Your Blues and Dees are adorable. I'm still waiting for the other Buntings to arrive here.
Elphaba...Wow...that is a very nice shot of the Wood Ducks!!
I glanced at my kitchen window and was surprised to see this Baltimore Oriole. He stayed there for a long time and preened for me...couldn't get a decent shot thru the window but thought this was kinda cute!
OMG Elphaba...what a great shot of the Herons!! (Sorry we cross-posted)!!
Well, rose, I'm still waiting on the orioles. Had an Orchard in the yard briefly, but he never found the grape jelly. I hope folks aren't getting tired of Painted Bunting pics. We are sure not tired of seeing this fellow. When he comes in, everything comes to a halt around here. I'm not fond of the pics in the cage, but he flies directly into the cage and directly to a group of large trees about 150 yards away when he leaves. The cage has sure solved the cowbird problem.
Holy Smokes, I can't believe how fast these threads are going!!
Duc, Great shots, I love the Western Grebes and those Yellow-headed Blackbirds. The Green Heron shot is sweet!
Lily, Good shot of Lord Byron!!
Red, Nice ones! Love the young Bluebirds and Chickadee's!
Elphaba, Love the shot of the Yellow-crowned Night Heron with his brood! Good one of the Wood Ducks and peek-a-boo Green Heron!
Rose, love the Oriole at your window!
Beautiful Painted Bunting red!!
Resin will be starting a new thread soon
I would be thrilled just to see a Green Heron and would be very happy with that pic too Elphaba!
Red....drooling over that Painted Bunting! I like the caged feeders too and so do the llittle birds!!
Yep, new thread starting in a few moments, I'll edit the link in when ready . . . here it is, on to #320: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1097037/

Dellrose what a great shot, lucky you for his sitting and letting you watch.
Do you have an aquarium setting on your camera? Mine has it and I use that to take pictures through the window, it works great.
Love everyones shots......
