jjsgramma, She said to spray tomatoes weekly with Daconil, a fungicide. I don't remember anything about peroxide.
We have thunder storms predicted for the next four days. We need the rain but I hope they don't spawn tornados like the one last week. Also are predicting hail for tomorrow evening. If we get that you guys will here a terrible groan coming for the south. It will be me looking at what use to be the prettest tomatoes I ever had.
Springtime Gypsies
here's hoping your tomatoes don't get pureed!
You can always use sturdy stakes and bed sheets or plastic for a little hail protection Jim. I put them about 8-10 inches above the plants, tie the corners to the stakes and then use string or tape to attach the knots more securely to the stakes. They are not fool proof, but if it saves 1/2 the maters from the hail, I am at least that far ahead of the game....grin
When the plants are really tall, I use a stake at either end with a rope strung between and plastic or sheets draped like a tent and weighted at the ground.

Thanks for the idea. I've got quite a few veggie seedlings that need to get planted and with thunder storms over the next 4 days coming my way, I was worried about my seedlings. Now I know how to protect them. I need to add this idea to my journal.
You are welcome Marti. For your application I would recommend using the tent-style cover so water does not collect on top and crush the plants. We have the same stuff heading this way. they are predicting rain/storms Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon and possibly into Tuesday morning.
I agree with Jim, we do need the rain, but couldn't it be just a bit gentler? Grin
Thanks Jim
Maybe the peroxide was for something else.
I want to try and get ahead of that leaf spot this year.
Most of what I am planting today is going in a bed along the fence. Maybe I can hook to the fence and slat it down over my babies to the ground. Do you think that will work?
Yes ma'am. You just don't want water or hail to collect on it and pull it down on top of the plants, that is why I suggested the tent style. The fence will offer some protection also.
They are even talking about hail here!!!!
OH NO, NOT TOMATOE SAUCE with Jims prize maters! Better get a tent going there Dr. Jim! Hang in there guys, it can't last forever.
OMG, Venice! I sure hope your ok with Storms.
We haven't gotten the storm, but I hear it's on the way.
JJ, you OK?? Well I surely hope everyone is doing well.
Waiving hello Gypsies! I know I haven't been in this room for ages, but i see you in the other building, so I hope
everyone is well here.
My DH and I went on a celebration trip. I would love to share our journey with you.
The thread is called I Got You Babe found in General Discussions.
Big smile, I hope to see you there.
I think northern IL go most of it. We are to get rain at 7AM then storms later or even on Sunday.
My one iris has grown another 6-7 inches. And it has 3 buds on it I think!!! I don't know what to do with it if it really storms here. Last year about this time, my whole garden was distroyed by hail.
Hi Ya Seed! Good to hear from ya girl! Will try to find your link and post there.
Morning seed and all,
Made it through the storm fine. Just got some rain and lightning for a little while.
Most of the bad stuff went around us.
Well, I've got dark skies and rain here now. Also heard some thunder. Stuck in the house today. DARN!!!! Guess I see about starting more hibiscus seeds. Got 15 seedlings so far. Might as well see what else I can get going in the bathroom.
It rained here early but think its going to clear up now for a while anyway.
Sorry you're stuck in the house Marti.
All the storms passed north of us yesterday. Arkansas caught the dickens with a lot of tornados. Course we missed the rain as well. It is showering here this morning but haven't seen any storm warnings on the tv. Hopefully we will miss the bad storms.
Now getting thunder blasts that is shaking this old trailer. Both dogs refuse to go outside. Even the cats are hiding out. Lite rain to heavy rain.
WHEW!! The tomatoes are saved....grin. We have "wet air" again today. Yesterday it "looked" like it was raining, dark clouds, wind, no sun, and a fine misty feel to the air, but no rain...same here today.
Venice, use the fence and a couple sheets and some rocks or bricks or buckets to weight them down. Tack the sheets or plastic to the fence and weight it at the ground for some protection from hail.
Batten down the hatches Marti and keep telling youself the rain is good for the garden....GRIN
Rain is good for the garden! Rain is good for the garden! Rain is good for the garden!
Doesn't help!! I was busy the last two days working in the garden getting ready to plant more flowers. Now I have to wait 4-5 days to get out again.
So sorry Marti....Patience is the one thing we need, but so many gardeners seem to lack completely in the Spring.
I have waited along time to have someplace of my own, to plant what I want, so I'm having trouble dealing with the weather, lack of funds, and still adjusting to being retired and moving 2000 miles away from my only son and grandson.
Sorry, just feeling down today and lonely. Think I'll just go awhile for now and make some hot tea.
We all have days like that. And the farther we are from our kids and grandkids just makes it harder. Have some tea...a good cry and another cup of tea. But know that we all have felt the same and understand the sadness. wallow away, Hon....the sun will come back and you will tackle it all with renewed fervor.
Thanks moon. I needed that!
That's what Gypsies do, Marti....GRIN
Well, I had some tea, a cry and a hot shower. Feel better, but still bumbed out with all the rain. Three more days of it. I've already got cabin fever. I'm trying to occupy myself by painting rocks that I bought from a landscaper. Just trying to keep busy.
Marti, painting rocks! You will have to show us.
This is a 20 lb rock I painted for a lady who is allergic to flowers. She wanted something besides silk flowers that collect dust in her house. This rock now sits on her coffee table and she just runs a damp cloth over it once a week. She paid me $50.00 for this one. The 20 lb frog was sold for $50.00 also.
Marti, those are gorgeous!
Glad your blues have subsided a bit, Marti. You need to paint a few "special for YOUR garden" rocks...gee, you could even use superglue or construction adhesive and make some rock critters to tuck in with the plants.
I paint cats, dogs, skunks, squirrels, horses, birds, fish, cows, you name it I can put it on a rock. I also paint rocks to look like houses especially gnome houses. I also paint rocks as flowers to use as paperweights.
Moon, I tried to use plastic sheets like you described. I didn't have plastic long enough and it would touch the iris because of the angle anyway. Also, I would have to trample all over the soil where I have seeds planted to do that.
So I came up with this idea for the iris and the turned over pot for the 2 lilies.
Marti you are so artistic. Those are fabulous.
Glad you are feeling a bit better and hope the weatherman is wrong.
That should work Venice. ya just want to try and keep them from getting battered.
Those are so cute Marti.
Marti, what type of paint do you use to preserve the paint outside?
