Wow, Duc and Wild Rose! Ospreys and Herons with their catch! fabuluous pictures! Rose, would you please send your Blue Grosbeak my way? I've never seen one before either.
DAILY PICS VOL. 313
Duc, Great shots! That is one BIG fish the Osprey has caught!!
VA, I LOVE the Great Blue Heron with the shad!!
WildRose, your heron is spectacular! Great job. Looking forward to seeing more of your photos. Glad you're enjoying your days off.
Sunfarm, you could send at least one pair of those buntings my way anytime.
OMG, I'm so far behind! I just went through the end of the last thread. What great photos! Now this thread already has 40 posts. Wow! and what great photos these are!
I'm too far behind to comment on all the photos that I loved except for two:
Pelle, no wonder you wanted to start this thread! Those osprey pictures are FANTASTIC.
Rose, those 5 baby BB are the cutest darn things! You know what else. I have a bird that I have assumed was a female red-winged blackbird, but it appears to have a yellow throat. It's probably not a meadowlark-- wouldn't make sense in my yard, but it does look unusual. Keep posting those pics so I can figure it out!
Anyway, Mrs. Ed, feel better b/c one of your favorites is headed your way! Just saw this Rose-breasted Grosbeak. I waited and waited for him to fly to a spot out of the shade. When he did, I lost him. Now, I'm a prisoner in my house waiting for him to come to the pond.
Elph, clear crisp pix of your Rose-breasted G. I saw one last year hopping to see a few more this year.
Wonderful shot sunfarm!! That is great you already have 4 indigo Buntings!!!
Thats great Elphaba!! I am still waiting to see a male as I've only seen the females here.
Yea.. We're Cookin Here! :-)))
awe thanks Elph!!! I just put some peanuts out for the since I know they like them along with the BOSS.
rose those baby blues are so cute lined up there in a row!
Ditto on that heron, WVRose!
Duc, doesn't seem like there's a bird you don't have there.
keep it up y'all.
I can easily echo what Marna has said about Duc having all kind of birds in her area. lol. Burn, I like grape too, I can't have it that way if my Robins will compete for my grapes. lol. Nice pix!
Ahhhh, just about everyone has seen buntings but me :((
Nice pics Burn! LOL, I have to try the grape trick with the Robins. Love the Hairy Woodpecker and I'm glad your Song Sparrow found a mate!
Beautiful shots of the "big birds" Duc and Wild Rose!!
Sunfarm...Love the Buntings...I'm still waiting.....
Elphaba...Lucky you..haven't seen a Rose-breasted Grosbeak YET!! Hope you get an ID on that yellow-throated bird.
Sweet shots Burn...do the Juncos nest in your area?
I was looking for the Baby Blues yesterday when a flock of Cedar Waxwings appeared very briefly....a very nice surprise!
Rose, Wonderful shot of the Cedar Waxwing! That Blue-gray Gnatcatcher is so cute!
Excellent shot VA!!
Elphaba, I love your Rose-breasted Grosbeak!! Hope he returns for more pictures.
Mrs Ed, sorry about your cold. Feel better soon.
Burn, you've really got those robins spoiled. Cute pictures of it and the sparrow. Glad to hear the sparrow has found a mate. Your wp is just adorable. I miss my Juncos but am glad to hear you're seeing them.
Rose, gorgeous photo of your Waxwing-wow! Another wow on that Gnatcatcher, it's just beautiful.
WildRose, your heron is beautiful. What a breathtaking sight to see.
Late yesterday I walked by the front door and caught this House Finch really enjoying his bath.
Aww Duc, These photos are wonderful!!! The House Finch and Goldfinch look so cute in the bath! That's a very nice sharp pic of the Green Heron!
That first Tree Swallow pic is calender/bird guide worthy!
Adel, Love the Oriole!!
Adel, glad you did that to the feeder. He'll get used to using that particular feeder hole now and will stay longer for you soon.
Fabulous shot at the GBH Wild Rose, Duc it's so much joy to watch those little friends in their bird bath. There isn't much picture taking opportunity after the weekend storm. My cast Iron bird-bath/feeder collected enough rain that reverted it back to a 'bath' instead of feeder. I found a Housefinch came to take a drink out of it a little while ago. So I cleaned the thing out, and re-make it into a bird bath. Will see what happens from here. :-)
LOL LilyLove! Well they'll get it decided for you I guess! I think it will make an excellent bath.
Hey everyone (knock wood), I think the cold is on it's last legs (hurray).
Duc, what can I say, your pictures are so detailed. Those tree swallows look fake!! Do they use the bird feeder?
Rose, congrats on catching that blue-gray gnat catcher. Must have been tough! VA Rose, that Heron looks like he's conducting an orchestra.
Nice grape toss game, Burn! I think I'll try that too.
Well I've had my spring visitors here for a week or so. Here's a brown thrasher. Hasn't visited the feeders yet like last year, but is eating seeds on the ground.
One more, this House Finch couple visited the bird bath at the same time, landing within seconds of each other.
I did something to the bird bath that resulted in it being visited by a lot of birds; Cardinals, one Titmouse, House Finches, grackles, doves, were just just a few I saw in the 30 minutes after I'd rigged a "dropper jug".
If you look in the pic below, right in front of the birds you can see a water disturbance. What I did was suspend a milk jug (painted flat black) above the bird bath and used a length aerator tube (like for an aquarium) to start a slow drip into the bird bath. At the end of the tube is a little green valve (for aeration) that I turned way down so that the water was a slow drip. I started the water flowing by siphoning it into and down the tube (like siphoning gas from a gas tank).
This serves two purposes. (1) I'd read that birds are attracted to dripping water and it sure looks like that is true. (2) I got tired of constantly refilling the bird bath. The gallon of water dripping should keep it full longer, so that I don't have to go up to it and add water so often.

Boy are you all rocking! Duc and Wild Rose both have outstanding shots....well heck you all do!
Waiting for those RBG's to get here. The House Wrens have arrived in force and are singing up a storm. And on an afternoon walk around today I heard and then saw the first Gray Catbird of the season!!
If only the light had been better! lol

Duc... I love your bathing finches! That first photo even has individual water drops captured! Love it! That Green Heron is fantastic too! I am so glad you were able to provide houses for your swallows. They waited on you and trusted you to come through for them... how wonderful! Can't wait to see baby pictures!
Adel... beautiful oriole!
Mrs_Ed... pretty towhee. Haven't seen a female yet.
Hack... excellent portrait of the dove! Well done! I really like the one of her drinking too.
Mrs Ed, love the pics of your Thrasher and sweet female Eastern Towhee!
Hack, Nice shot of your House Finch, Dove and Thrasher!!
Nanny, Nice that you have Catbirds!
Mrs Ed, your Brown Thrasher is cute. Congrats on the female towhee too.
Hack it's good to see you back here. Hope your mom is continuing to feel better. That dove sure must have been thirsty. Love that blue around their eyes. Very creative with your home-made water mover. Your finch pair look quite happy with the results-great job.
Nanny, congrats on the Catbird sighting. Happy to hear you're enjoying newly arrived birds.
This American Goldfinch looked so pretty in the sun we had a few days ago.
