Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

There's really is something comforting about having them around. A Female buzzed me twice today, or maybe it was two different ones...LOL I'm hoping that means they're here to stay?

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

I saw one briefly hovering over my Rose bush. But it didn't stay long. :((

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Congrats Nanny, glad you feel better.

I thought I had one yesterday, but I think it was a dragonfly zipping through the yard.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Congratulations Nanny! Hope to see pictures soon.

Iris, your hummer is so pretty with the blooms and the decorative pole.

Lewisville, TX(Zone 7b)

I saw my hummer last night!! It's been over a month since "he" first came to my feeder! But he didn't feed from it.. it was also very windy & rain, so I was surprised to see him out there!!!
I hope he comes back..he is a black chinned hummer. I say "he" for lack of knowledge!

Marlton, NJ

Congratulations Cindy!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I hope to get to photos soon. There had been no sight of one today until about 15 minutes ago. So once they become more regular in their visits we should get some.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

She's so pretty, IRIS, with your Red Salvia.

Way to go, Cindy!

Two females buzzed me today. It's exciting to see them join the males but sadly I have no pics to share.....yet.

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

Thanks all!
Congrats Cindy!
Look forward to when everyone can post some pics, Not easy when they are just zipping by or only drinking at certain hours of the evening, But, There will come a time!!! :)

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Anticipation, anticipation! I'm rotating my feeders (an ever growing number of them) hoping to see these elusive beauties sooner...lol.

That's a beautiful scene Lily!

Glen Burnie, MD

Not a hummer in sight yet. It's so frustrating to see all the dots on the map, & my feeders
& blooms attracting nothing but bees.

Marlton, NJ

Hi Carol, Don't despair. The main numbers of them are on their way! :-)

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

LL, What a nice photo and it's so nice to see that water! I love the ocean and lakes, But, Don't live close to either!!
You should be seeing some HB pretty soon.

carol13, I was getting a little frustrated to at first ( They were late for me this year) But, They did make it, Hopefully you'll have some coming in at anytime now.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

How beautiful, Lily_Love, with the lake as a backdrop. Very nice!

Hang in there, Carol, ours were late too.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I saw one twice today and I was working outside and one came by chattering at me! lol

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Thanks everyone for the compliments. Congrats Nan. I didn't see any today. BTW, how do we keep ants out of the nectar feeder? I don't mind the bees, but the ants? Yikes!

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

lol nanny! The chatter can scare you sometimes when your not expecting it!

LL .. I rarely get ants in/on my feeders, but, I relocate the feeders often when I do.

Columbia City, IN(Zone 5b)

There here, saw 1 yesterday yay.Ant mote or bell will keep them from reaching the feeder,we made one out of a 1/2 water bottle, drilled a hole in the cap slid it on the shepards hook silaconed it in place, the birds like to drink water out of it too.this is the 3rd yr for it,works great

Norman, OK

I have two pair around the yard. Have 3 feeders. I've been able to identify one of the males as a Ruby Throat, no ID on the other. I had a pair of Black Chins last year.

Nice one red!!

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Hi everyone,
I'm in Northern Illinois & just had my first sighting for this year on May 4th (later than normal). I usually see the first male around the third week of April, although a couple of years ago (a very cold Spring) they didn't arrive until May 12th.

With the warmer than normal Spring temps & the pace that they were moving North (based on www.hummingbirds.net map) I expected mine early - even had some of my feeders out as of April 2nd.

Apparently, even with all the early sightings this year, they're late in a lot of areas.

So, the moral of the story is: . . . Be patient, cause when they do arrive, if you're anything like me, you'll be doing the "Happy Dance" & walking around with a silly grin on your face!
Ah, the joys of Spring!!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Good to know, "nuts".

I'm hoping today's the day for me. I put up my bird camera to catch any visits to the feeder that I might miss.

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

Congrats huggergirl!

Nice pic red!
Congrats nuts!
Hope you see one soon Mrs_Ed!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Hi nutsaboutnature. Are we perchance Cousins? ^_^ We are snowfull again and MT has been getting some too so I think it will be even later this year for us to see them sigh

Marlton, NJ

Snow?? Sorry to hear that.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Hi Mrs_Ed. I can feel it in my bones. Yours will be here any day.

Thanks for the congrats, IRIS.

You never know, dahlianut. Us "Nuts" have to stick together.
Keep those feeders ready. By the time the hummers get to you, they'll be good & hungry. In the mean time just look at lots of pictures. It's been a crazy Spring all over, but I bet they'll be there before you know it.

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

dahlianut , Ewww snow, Sorry to hear that.

Nuts, Your Welcome! ... It definately has been a crazy Spring Everywhere!!! I really feel whoever had the hummers b4 will have them again, It's just off-timing this year!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Red that is a nice shot of your female.

Lily...you have some very pretty flowers and I know the Hummers are gonna love them.

Congrats to everyone who has gotten their Hummers back and for those that are still waiting I don't think the wait will be much longer. I think most of ours have arrived in the past week as we have several males and females. It feels good to be working outside and get buzzed!

I am going to start a new thread and hope you can join us there...will be back with a link for you. Here's the link to the new thread...please join us here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1094813/#new .
