Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Oh my how beautiful!

Macon County, IL(Zone 5b)

dellrose, that is the most beautiful wet and dull day that one could possibly have! Excellent photos and I love the natural settings. I have to stalk the feeders mostly to get any close shots.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Oh such nice pics Iris and rose! That one of yours rose sure looks like my 'Ed"! lol

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

more great pics dellrose!
Thanks Nanny!
ilflowers, I usually have to stalk the feeders too untill later summer when they become more trusting.
Dellrose, Are you taking most of your photos through your window?
I got a couple more pics while he/she was at the feeder again yesterday, Also took a few quick photos of some other birds whie I was waiting for the Hummingbird to come back around, I'll start a different post for those though and save this one for the hummers.

Marlton, NJ

Talk about putting RED out has anyone seen these hummingbird feeder hats ?

Here is one: http://www.duncraft.com/Hummer-Sun-Hat--P2243C84.aspx

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thanks again everyone! Those last two shots were taken outside and I was standing under the cover of a Birch tree. The Hummers are getting used to me now and didn't seem to mind that I was out there. I was able to get a few yesterday when we had a little bit of light. I am hoping for real sun one of these days and maybe a little warmth.

pelletory, Neat hats! So expensive for a piece of plastic though, Even if it is red! I got some hood covers for the HB feeders but they are grey, ( Of course, I could paint them red) I use them for sun and weather protection for the hummers.

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

Great set again dellrose!! I especially like that first and last one!!! They do seem to show off a lot at times, Especially when they get use to your presence! Mine don't get that way here untill the middle and end of summer. Keep up with the Great photo's, There always a pleasure to see!!

Marlton, NJ

Wonderful shots Rose!
The female is so pretty and the 2 males so handsome!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thanks Iris!!

Pelle...I forgot to mention about those sun-hats! They sure are costly but would probably be worth the $ if you need the shade! I am getting the feeling that the Hummers like the color yellow better than red.

Thanks Pelle!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Would like to have a couple of those 'hats' but to expensive in my book. I put out the back feeder today in anticipation of their imminent arrival!

In the mean time I will just ehjoy the pretty pics here!

Marlton, NJ

They definitely are costly, I agree.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Pelle, those are great hats that I could really use in the hot summers we have, but I'm not sure I'd spend that much money on either one. Still hmmmmm.

Rose, love your photos!! That little guy sure has an attitude! Great job. Be sure and save a red lid from a peanut butter jar or another that you can find. As they get more used to you, you'll be able to stand where the feeder belongs and feed the birds some sugar water. It really works with some patience.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Wonderful shots Rose, (gulp) I'd like to see some of those pretty ones around here for a chance. Ahhh, those hats are costly, I agreed. I'm putting out more nectar flowers this year instead. :-)

Incredible shots again! Is she by chance sticking her tongue out at him? lol

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Rose, superb photography, love those little jewels.

I HAVE A HUMMINGBIRD!!
I HAVE A HUMMINGBIRD!!

A beautiful mature male is here. WooHoo!!! ^_^

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Cool, pell! CONGRATS!

Marlton, NJ

Thanks FOV, I feel a bit sorry for him because the weather here is very chilly with high winds and no sun.

So glad he is here. I'm pretty sure the blooming Honeysuckle vine drew him in because it's just 5 feet from the feeder.

It will be much warmer this weekend getting into the high 80's. Crazy weather. :-)

CONGRATULATIONS PELLE, glad you have one guy there. Hopefully more will follow soon.

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

Congrats Pelletory!! It is crazy weather!! We had really warm temps here and then a cool down! A cold front went through yesterday and then there was rain, high wind and a lot cooler tempts, Felt so bad for the humming birds that are here!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Wooohooo! Pelle, I'm so happy for you. A mature male hummingbird, yaaaahooooo!!! FruitoftheVine;

Is she by any chance sticking her tongue out at him?
ROFL!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Congrats Pelle....hope you have as much fun as I have been having!

Our temps have been very cool for spring but the Hummers seem to be taking it all in stride and fighting and eating up a storm! Thanks again for all the nice comments...this is too much fun!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Congrats Pell! Doing a dance of joy for you.

Marlton, NJ

How sweet, IRIS!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

whoaaaa Iris. You have salvia that big and blooming now? Zone Envy…

Marlton, NJ

I agree! the Salvia is gorgeous!! Wonderful shots Iris!

Macon County, IL(Zone 5b)

Great news pelletory! I can't wait to get home...sigh. We had some frost last night I hear and hopefully not too much damage. I really want the hummingbird haven to get going well this year.

Iris, your salvia is to die for! Red salvia isn't really available for my zone (that I have found), only the annual kind. As proven by your photo, it's a hummingbird buffet.

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

Thanks all!
That particular red salvia always grows fast and big! I have Black and Blue Salvia right behind it, And though the Black and Blue gets big, It doesn't grow anywhere near as fast as the red! And the hummers love both!!
Last year at the Blue Salvia ...

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

Red Salvia... First Salvia to bloom, Last to pass bloom in the fall .. This is from a couple weeks ago, It has grown since then, This particular one just always amazes me with it's fast growth!
