2010 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Vol. 1

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Hey everyone...it is that magical time of the year when the "flying jewels" make their way north. By now many of us have seen our first one and eagerly await the arrival of the regulars. The first one showed up here about 10 days ago and it has been pure joy seeing them. At the present time we have about 6 or 8 males and the first female arrived about 10 minutes ago.

Here are some of the window shots that I have gotten.

Please be sure and share your photos also...we want to see your beauties!!

Edited to add last sentence.

Rose, congratulations on so many hummers already. Your photos are beautiful as are your hummers. Thank you for saying "your life changes when hummers show up", that expresses it best for me every day too.

Looking forward to seeing more photos from you and all the others that are privileged to see these birds.

Congrats, IRIS!

We saw our first female today. Rose, your gang makes me long for more.

Sandusky, OH

Nice shots Dellrose!!

Edited to say...I took my feeder down..am giving it to the neighbor's for now, I have found a new house finally and the last thing I want to do is leave my hummer's with no food when I move...so it is best to take it down or move it before they get here. The new/different house has a lot to offer birdwatching-wise and I have already picked out a great spot for the Hummer's.

Burd, We've visited your area many times & enjoyed playing golf. I had to get a little shopping in too. You're so thoughtful giving your feeders to neighbors. I wish you all the best with your move and your new home.

Rose, that's wonderful. Gorgeous photos. Everyone's spirits seem to lift when these little darlings arrive.

Good luck with the move, Burd.

Wow, look at them all getting along so nicely.

Oh man...Just Lovely Rose!!!

I figure with the rain/Low fornt here for a few days it will not be likely to see one for a few days. But they should be showing up. Last year was the 26th. AND sometimes I see them flying around in the woods before they show up at the feeders.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Rose, I'm enjoying your birds as much as you are. Great pictures.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

I hope all of you get your Hummers real soon...Margaret is so right, they really do lift the spirit!

It is threatening to storm again and is so chilly I wore my winter clothes to walk the dogs. I spotted this little female outside the window being chased by a male. She wasn't having any of it!!

Thanks pelletory and dellrose! So happy to have them here again!! They were late this year!

Macon County, IL(Zone 5b)

Lovely pictures! I can't wait to get back home on Friday and see if I have any little visitors. With my new camera I took a video of a cardinal that turned out awesome and now I really want to get some good hummingbird footage. What torture to not be at home at the time they should be arriving. Grrr...

I did leave them a nice new fuschia plant and some little impatiens that are starting to get blooms. The honeysuckle is starting to bloom too. Now I just need the hubby to refill the feeders for me.

dellrose, the most hummers I ever saw in one place was in your neck of the woods at a little restaurant near Bennett Springs Park. I was in love the moment I saw all the feeders and countless hummingbirds. It's wonderful how you all get so many to stay, but I am extremely jealous!! We're going back again this summer, so I can't wait to see them again. I may have to "steal" some pictures.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Hurry home, ilflowers, and keep your new camera ready. I just know the Hummers are going to flock to your blooms.

Love your girl, IRIS! Those are great shots.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Wonderous! Thanks for sharing.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

ilflowers...sounds like you are ready for your little visitors! I know the restaurant you visited and they sure get the Hummers with all the feeders they have out. Bennett Springs is a beautiful spot to visit and it about 35 miles from us so we go there often. Enjoy the summer and be sure and post your pics!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

The wet dull days are not the greatest for taking pics but here are a few from yesterday.

This guy is in charge of one of the feeders in the front yard and he takes his job very seriously!
