Zonal envy+ Iris! Beautiful silohette fc. Although we had a winter storm last night so I had to bring in my giant red hummer magnet bow for fear it would end up at Santa's YIPPEE my red monarda is back and coming on strong ^_^ ps I have added a new chapter to my book about my gardening 'adventures'. New chapter: Life at the End of the Hummer Trail. The giant red hummer magnet bow will be the star ^_^

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

Thanks all! I finally found the tag for the Salvia, But, Not so sure it's the right one ( Even though I only have one red Salvia) Because , On the tag, It says that it grows 12-24", But mine is 3-3 1/2 ft. So not sure , But, Anyway, The name on the tag is "Navajo Bright Red Salvia".

f_chisolm, I think thats a Great Silhouette!! I just love it!

dahlianut, Your too funny!! LOL!!!

(Shot from yesterday evening .. I know, Same spot again) I'm working on that! ...

Wonderful shot Iris!!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

What beautiful 'coat' she's adorned! Love that shot of your hummingbird, Iris. Navajo Red Salvia? I happen to have one of those, but in shady condition, it doesn't perform just as well. I may need to move it. One of the few Salvias that is deciduous, and not habaceous like many varieties. I still haven't seen my hummers here lately. Just have to hop on here and enjoy's yours.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Love your silhouette shot Frank...hope to see more of your Hummers!

Iris...your little gal is just lovely!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Iris and Frank great photos!

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

Thanks all!
Lily_love, The tag says the red salvia likes 'full sun" and likes to be fertilized every 3-4 weeks. I realized today that mine is more like 2 1/2 ft tall, So it must be the right one for the name.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

No wonder! That explains it! I've had the plant for the past five years--nearly, and I just now learned of its preferrence. Thank you Iris. I may have to move that baby as I have mentioned.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

p.s. While I was in the garden. I heard the buzzing sound of my hummer revisiting. But without glasses on and no camera. There it buzzed into the thicket! I'm happier now, knowing that it's back.

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

Lily_love, Your Welcome, and I think if you move it where it gets good sun you will see a big difference! Glad the hummers back for you!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Thanks Iris, I'm adding another Blue Salvia to the garden this year. This cultivar is a little tender (listed for zone 9's hardiness). But it's blooming now, while the 'Black and Blue' and its cousin are just now a foot-tall. So they won't bloom until summer is well set in. For now this 'Costa Rica Blue' will add the hue to my hummingbird garden. :-)

My first hummer came on April 28 at about 11 am. I am sure he is the dark adult male from last year. I have only two feeders out. GM

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

Lily_love, Welcome! My B&B are only about a foot tall too and won't be blooming untill summer, Almost can't wait, The hummers love them! That 'Costa Rica Blue' is nice!

Grandmaggie, Congrats! I usually have only have 2 or 3 feeders out for the season, I get about 4-6 different hummers for the season

Marlton, NJ

Saw another mature male while standing on the porch before dark last night. He didn't seem to mind that I was just a few feet from him.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Congratulations Grandmaggie! Hope you marked the arrival on your calendar so you'll know when to expect it next year.

Marlton, NJ

Oops, sorry I didn't see that. Congratulations GM!

Beachwood, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yes I always mark the calendar. Last year my first was on April 22.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Gmaggie, I mark mine on a calender too and they were late this year.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

I hope everyone's putting your "dot" on this year's map: http://www.hummingbirds.net/map.html

Congratulations to GM and Burd!!

Columbia City, IN(Zone 5b)

I~d better get my feeders out.Today !!!!

Pueblo, CO(Zone 5b)

My daughter was in the yard and heard a Broad-tailed fly over our house. She said it was zipping straight north and didn't even slow down. So I guess I had my first Hummingbird, for a few seconds anyway.

Marlton, NJ

Well then Congratulations Pollen! :-)

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Congrats, Pollen!

This is so weird. When I bent down today to admire a Purple Columbine just starting to bloom, I thought to myself how much the Hummers enjoyed it last year. Then a Male juvenile lit on the feeder only 3' away! I stayed still as a statue and watched it drink for at least 30 seconds before it zoomed off. Of course I never have my camera handy when I really have the potential for a great shot. At least he's still in my mind's eye.........maybe next time.

Marlton, NJ

That is always the way with me too FOV. Either I forget the camera or the camera card or my binoculars. :-)

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

Me too! Or, I can't focas fast enough!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

WOO HOO!!!!!!!! JUST HAD A HUMMER!!!!!!

and I did report it just now!
