And this is another unknown plant. Pretty hard to ID this from a photo. SW, does your DH know what this one is?
So Cal RU 2010 Pictures
I'll ask about the plants KC. DH is pretty knowledgeable about honey producing plants, and the cycle of plants that grow after a fire. If I can find seeds they are yours, if not I will try to find a seedling next spring.
I didn't want to get rid of the potter's wheel. DH hated it though. At one point I had hoped to use it myself. Things change. I had hoped my son would be interested, but his main focus is on drawing.
So when I saw someone (John) looking at the potter's wheel during the RU, and trying it on for size. I decided it had found itself a new home with people who would cherish it. Otherwise it'd still be sitting there. KC and John will give it a good home. They may even use it for it's intended purpose. LOL!
That thing weighs a lot. It's got concrete foot ring and except for the seat (which is too high for- me), it is solid steel. Enjoy it, you two, and I'll be happy coming to visit it from time to time. : -)
I'm still working slowly on getting things back the way they were before the flood.
Except for the ants, it's not been too bad. The ants are awful this year, and they seem to have taken 7 powder off the market. Any one with other suggestions to get rid of the ants?
Photos soon, been too tired to take many lately.

Ant killer: Boric Acid, Sugar...just enough water to mix it...poison to animals...
Are the ants inside the house or outside? Jo
Outside, and I have a dog that eats rat poison for fun. : - (
I wouldn't complain, except I am allergic to the ants, but don't want my pets killed either.
Sigh . . .

Have you tried diatomaceous earth? Won't hurt the animals, but will kill any insects that crawl across the trail. Also, if you can find the nest (I never can) boiling water will kill them.
I tried earlier to post here and say how much I wish I could have been to the round up! I will be hoping SW decides to host again next year and that I will get to meet you all. But when I hit send, the site went down. The blank page with the error message mentioned in the DavesGarden forum. So here is trying again!
Great to see all of the photos and read about your adventures!
Kathleen does diatomaceous earth hurt lizards?
Good question, Marie! I just googled and can't find anything that says it hurts them - just that it's safe for pets. I did find references to use it outside lizard cages, though!
Two things: 1) use "food grade" (yep, this stuff is in our food and is fed to farm animals); 2) use a mask when spreading it, as you don't want to inhale it.
I've used it for earwigs, which we have a real problem with and it works great, except when they are overhead! Last spring, my greenhouse door wouldn't open because it was clogged with the awful things. They even get between the panes. I used the DE and they all disappeared.
Yuck!! That is a lot of earwigs if it clogged your greenhouse door. I have some but have hesitated to use it because i do not want to hurt my house geckos. I will ahve to check and see if it is food grade.

Don't have gecko's, (why does the one on TV have an accent?) and will take your suggestion of using the DE. One of my Indian friends said if that doesn't work to use Borax. I don't think he realizes the extent of the ant problem. Works great to keep them out of your Tipi or tent, but the whole yard?!
The alligator lizards are on their own. LOL!
CatSmiling, DH is willing to host another RU, but he wants to do it out by Gma Oak. We'll see.
Would love to have you come visit. Then you can see how the first Larry Jr. and Lycoides are doing in the ground. Poor babies got puppy tailed. So I put tomato cages or something around them. Thought Larry Jr. was a goner again, but he just keeps coming back. What a pal! : - )
Larry Jr. is a Cardinal Fuchsia. He's survived a whole lot worse than a puppy tail. : - )
BTW, the same thing happened to me with error message a couple of times now. Very frustrating.
Next time we got to have a designated photographer as well as taking our own photos. LOL!
Still haven't had a chance to ask DH about those plants, but haven't forgotten.

I googled Lori Piestewa to find out some information. Had to tell DH about it and he said he remembers a little about watching that episode of Home Makeover. One thing that stayed with him is that the little girl wanted a pony and got one. I do remember it too, now I wish I paid more attention.
I had opportunity to tell another person (went to a yard sale) about my great day in Menifee and that wonderful old Oak Tree. How wonderful to plant trees in honor of the people we have lost.
I'd of planted an oak for Dad but he wants his beloved Pride of Barbados planted in his memory.
Nice bushes out here they are also known as Red Bird of Paradise. Great B.fly attactors.
I like the idea of planting the trees to honor those who've gone before us to the great mystery.
I get to landscape the side walk strip someday, guess what I'm going to be planting? Tee Hee!
I really want to plant an oak tree for Audie Murphy who used to have a ranch right down the road. I've been lobbying for years to at least get an elementary school named after him. So far all we got is an unbuilt subdivision. Give me time!
Some fresh acorns would be nice too. Should have a good crop of acorns this year! : - )
Next time we'll have to hang out with Gma oak. Anyone know where I can get a safety Net? Kinda like a cargo net? We used to have one under GMa Oak. Kids would climb up the net and roll down. Kept them out of the tree. I liked using it like a hammock and just watching all the different kinds of birds in the canopy. It was sweet. Sadly the net deteriorated over time and for safety I had to remove it. I've been looking for one every since. My BIL who works construction donated that one to us. Sigh. I miss it.

I had the hugest crush on Audie Murphy when I was a kid.....
I love all the photos. It really makes me sad/angry at myself for not remembering my camera battery. RATS!!!!
Nobody is perfect DP, and you more than made up for it by bringing your DW, Lisa. Not to mention bringing and making the coffee, and toting that heavy potters wheel back to KC's for her.
You do take good photos, though, and they were missed.
I really hate running out of battery before I'm done for taking my photos. DH keeps saying he's going to get me another battery for my camera. We'll see. He's really busy with the bees now.
They started bringing in the supers full of the honey comb last week, and now they are extracting it.
I'll try to get some photos to share of the process. Or you can come visit and see for yourself.
Hope I don't get in trouble for posting photos here instead of the Bee Keeping forum. Maybe I'll post them both places. Or maybe I'll be putting the word CA in the title of the thread. LOL!
We all had a good time at the RU, at least I hope everyone did. I know I did. ; - )
