Bird Watching Daily Pics Vol. 312

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Awesome photos everyone! Gee, I was just gone a short time and there's so much to say to everyone.

Burd, congratulations on your new home. I'm sure I'm not the only one here that will miss hearing about Elvis, but I'm glad your neighbors may care for him and the other birds. Hurry back to us, we'll miss you.

Hubby and I took a boat ride farther up our lake to a Heron Rookery. On the way we saw the Yellow-headed Blackbirds everywhere in the tulies, except close to the edge so I could photograph them. This is such a long distance away, but this male looked so pretty.

Also saw this Western Flycatcher sunning itself.

As we got closer to the rookery, we started seeing the Gr. Blue Herons sitting on nests in Oak trees which were at least 50-60 ft. tall. Every year it amazes me how these nests could remain intact after all the very high wind gusts we've had lately.

Catch a look at this young heron's new hairdo! I was surprised these young birds were so large.

This particular nest had 3 young and one parent, but I doubt that the other parent would have had room anyway.

This is the only one that you can see the parent in the back.

Here's a photo showing one of the trees with several nests.

Late to the party again! Nice really great pics here. The Herons are great, and the Meadowlark...love it!

Have a FOS today and sure not what I was expecting yet. We had our first Indigo Bunting today!! Sorry the photo is so bad but it's pouring rain here and dark.

Gee that I had lightned that up more than that...oh well!

Hey, one of the Brown Thrashers came by too. DH was happy about that!

This scene caught my eye and I just had to take a few couple of shots thru the pouring rain. 3 Blue Jays & our Female Red-bellied Woodpecker on the BOSS platform feeder.

DH found a large 'bird turd' on the porch this morning & wonders if the turkeys are active now.

Marlton, NJ

Congrats nanny!! I would love to have that Bunting in my yard. Very nice pics!

That would be a sight Iris!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Lucky you Nanny...still waiting for the Indigos to appear!

Duc...Love those baby Herons...their hair is adorable!!

Iris...Haven't seen too many turkeys lately!!

Mashpee, MA

Great start to the new thread, Duc....that oriole is gorgeous!
Burn....nice shot of the sapsucker; wish I had one in my yard.
Nanny....I love the chipper shot. Mine are busy, busy hunting in the garden but not nesting yet. It's a little early here. Love the Indigo bunting shot. You are so lucky!!
Pelle....pretty blue jay. It is looking very sweet in that shot. The orchard oriole shot is amazing!
Mrs. Ed.....we get mockingbirds in the summer. They are real characters and I love them. They are not so popular with the other birds though. :D

We've had a grey day here and the birds were not so active but I did get one of robins having a ball in the bird bath:

Resin, thanks for the correction. I do appreciate it when someone can correct my names.

Nanny, your birds are beautiful. How lucky you are to see a bunting. Sorry you're having rain.

Sacarvounis, cute robin.

Gray day here but had to take this series of photos anyway. Sorry it's so out of focus, but the subject is just amazing. You might not be able to see the whole series so well in this first pic, but I'll post a close up after.

Man, am I late.

ducbucln - nice start to the new thread. Your orioles are always a hit. AND the series on the young herons was great.

nanny_56 - nice pic of the Chipping Sparrow. Mine have thinned out. AND I liked the pic of the Brown Thrasher.

adelbertcat - I really like the 2nd pic of the Tree Swallows.

Lily_love - My N Cardinals tend to ignore me, too. Good snap. AND the Fluffy Blue Jay is nice, too.

Elphaba - Wow, that Scissor-tailed Flycatcher is neat. AND great shot of the Mockingbird.

misseymarie - Nice capture of the Blue Jay. I haven't seen one visit, yet.

reddirtretiree - it looks like the Hairy is sitting on the feeder - cool.

dellrose - my R-w Blackbirds are gone, but you sure caught the guy displaying nicely. AND the The Orchard Oriole is a beauty. AND your Goldfinches are looking good.

burn_2007 - nice pic of the male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker.

pelletory - great colors on your Common Grackle. AND that's a real nice looking male Red-bellied Woodpecker.

gardenpom - Nice pic of the Woodpecker (male Red-bellied, right) on the antennae. Love the Mockingbird, too. AND the White Ibis looked good, without cropping.

sacarvounis - I haven't seen a Robin in my bird bath, but the Grackles love it.

Mrs_Ed - like the way you sequenced the Thrush eating the big grub. I guess it won't need to eat again for a while. And that Kildeer with 8 legs is something!

I took few pics today.

I just happened to catch this male Eastern Towhee at the edge of the bushes.

This is my last pic for this run.

However, just prior to seeing this Towhee, I spied an Indigo Bunting (the 2nd one ever for me), but when I eased the door open to take a pic, it flew off. That's when I saw the Towhee.

I have to go walk the doggies but will have a nice little surprise pic to share when I get back. Let's just say Happy Days Are Here Again!!

Edited to say...Hack...still haven't seen an Indigo!! Now I am double jealous!!

Rose, make that tripple jealous on the Indigo! Hack, I've yet seen a ONE! Duc, the series on the GBHs is great! I'm especially like to see the not so little babies! Mrs_Ed, your Thrush, is really a good boy/girl for catching such big grub! Sarcar, love the Robin in the bird bath. Hack I missed my Towhees here. GP I love those Mockingbirds, there was a picture of one attacking an Owl on a local newspaper here last week. Brave little birds whose can defend their youngs! Nan I've a pair of Brown Thrasher nesting to the shrub on the sideyard. I love to hear their chatter too.

I saw my very first Hooded Warbler!!! No pic. to share but I saw one! Does that qualify for a 'lifer'? Or I need a pix to store in my file? (whistling happy tunes).

Marlton, NJ

No pic necessary just a positive ID, Congratulations!

Sandusky, OH

Nice shots everyone!! Lily, that would be up to you...I spent half an hour last summer trying to sneak up on a Pileated WP after watching him for a couple minutes, I considered it a lifer but with no picture, he flew off just as I raised the camera.

Went to Sheldon's Marsh this morning before all the thunder storms got here.
Added a new bird No. 151 on my life-list. Field Sparrow...but I seemed to have deleted it. :(
