Whoo Heee!!! We got some, 2" late afternoon and early evening. It was so soft and gentle with only a little thunder and lightning that I thought it was lighter, but welcome. Garderner that I am, I couldn't go to bed not sure....off went the alarm, on with the lights, flashlight to the gauge....then a little post rain dance! ;o)
Rain at last!
Great!! Glad some of you got some relief!
Looks like north TX is in for a gully washer later tonight. Just heard on the news. I don't mind being woke up by lightening and thunder as long as it involves rain!
Well Sheila, we got no rain last night, I hope we get some later today.
I went to the Fielder garden yesterday to see if it had rained there and i was pleasantly surprised, when I sank the soil moisture testing tool into the ground it went down to six inches, and all moist, I was a happy gardener!!!
It POURED last night. I woke up about at about 1:30am and the storm came in with a bang. The dog was panting like crazy and some how the cat got in my BR. Then we had another gully washer at 7:00 just when we were all taking the kids to school.
TX weather will never stop amazing me. Yesterday the ground was dry and cracked this morning I have a creek in my dry creek bed.
I'm glad I remembered to get the paper towels out of the back of the truck.
jujube-I feel your relief
1.1 inches here at Canyon Lake. Still under a burn ban thought.
As it turned out it missed us last night. I am sure those that did get it were blessed with a hardy rain. It looked like a pretty large cell moving our way when it was north of us.
I also was hoping for more rain last night and/or overnight. The cool, cloudy morning made it hard to get out of bed, especially after staying up late to watch the Cowboys. LOL We ended up with about 1.5" of rain. I'll take it and the cooler weather!
Not sure how much I got but it was enough to make a big difference. Hopefully we can get one more good rain out of this system.

It is amazing what the rain does for the plants. I just came in and all the plants are so green and healthy looking. It rained really hard here, I will never get used to the thunder and lightening tho.
rena, I really have to get into rainwater capture...it's on my project list.
How does that whit boxey one in the cage work?
really well. It already has all the holes and cupplings It was really easy to set up. We have the gutter going into it with a movable gutter and it is on cinderblocks so we can get the hose on the bottom cuppling.
It's the draining I was interested in....I get the bottom coupling, THX.
That makes sense. I have rainbarrels that have a faucet and an overflow hose. It is convenient for nearby plants but otherwise involves a lot of bucket action.
well i have a rain barell but till now no rain--the bad thing is i did not put the spout at the very bottom--about 6 inches from bottom--so how to get the bottom 6 inches of water out??
They make these little hand siphon things - it's like a hose with a hand squeeze pump section in the middle, so you can start the siphon without sucking on it. Also useful for draining the bath water out the window...
Wow bathwater out the window!! Now that's conservation :) When I was little my mom had a garden hose hooked to the back of the washing machine and ran out to the trees.
linda, once it rained, my 50 gallon filled up so fast. I doubt you will miss the last 6". How big is your barrel and does it get the water from the downspout?
well i am not worried about missing the water but thought it might be smelly and stagnant
I got about 1800 gallons in my cistern from the 2 inches I got the other day.
The news says I should expect about 2-3 inches on Tuesday-Wednesday. The NOAA forecast for Wednesday said .5 - 2.00 inches for the entire state of Texas. That is a bold statement.
I'm getting a little now...soft...hope for more!.
Can anyone say TROPICAL STORM?
Rain chances are bumped up to 90 percent heavy rain expected for the a large portion of the state starting tomorrow.
ALRIGHT!!! TROPICAL STORM !!!
I dont want a tropical storm but its better than a drought.
C
Bring on the rain!
The cacti are the reason I don't want torential rains but like I said its better than drought any day. Pray for the cacti and enjoy the water.
C
Shouldn't the cactus be ok with a torrent, just not an extended standing around with their feet wet? I think we're supposed to be back to hot and dry after this little interlude. Maybe you'll get some blooms?
someone mention rain? We have cats, dogs and baby elephants falling around here! *g
We still have 1.5 days left of this.
2.0 at home
2.5 at orchard
If it stays like this I'll be thrilled. On June 26th 2007 we got 18" in one night and the National Gaurd landing behind us that was too much this is great tho.
I remember that date because its Derek Jeter's b-day, and my oldest son's.
:( but all of our water barrels are ALREADY full. Shame with all this good water.
All my livestock (large pets) are standing under the barn looking out like "what the h..." is this.
I don't usually cover the cactus, but this August my DH ran sprinlers across them where I usually point them away and only on the small lawn. The maid who covered for me for 2 1/2 weeks did the same, and I don't think they've dried out.
Woot! Another 1.25" of rain here today! More supposedly on the way as well.

Did the creek flood? So sorry for the mess.
Yup, I had about 10 inches of rain in my shed. Parr Park was completely under water, including the restrooms and parking lots. They also had to evacuate the middle school, due to flooding.
