some places did get rain. just not at our place. north of town got a nice shower I think and when we were coming through elkhart yesterday it was coming down nicely.
Rain at last!
I went out to the orchard and mixed in some of Gardenville's Greensand to help with some of the Pears with iron deficiencies. I also mixed some organic chicken poop based fertilizer into some of Jujube that are showing poor growth this season. Now all I need is about 1 inch of rain to get it all jump started.
If you look at the state radar, there are already two bands of rain coming in from Hurricane Alex. One is south of Austin and the other is on the coast.

Raining again here in Arlington today and I am grateful!
We got over 3" yesterday evening and its raining again. We really need it. I'm wondering how fast the fungal problems will spread on my tomatoes now! On the bright side it should help with the Spider Mites. Maybe the extra water will help the plants grow faster then the blight spreads. I just sprayed but may have to do it again.
Had 1" in the rain gauge as of 7:00 this morning -- it was a nice, slow, steady soaking. And very much appreciated. I can't wait to get home tonight to see how alive everything will look.
Carla
It's pouring out there again!
We have had a nice 1/3 slow rain so far.
I work about 6 miles from home. I called Mark this evening to let him know I was on the way home. He said, "Be careful on the wet streets." I was like, "The roads are dry as a bone here." Started raining on me about halfway home. Then as I turned onto our street, it poured! Didn't last long, but hey, I'll take it!
I know what you mean Stephanie. A few weeks back when the Colonial was going on, my son called from his work near Hulen and Granbury Rd. He asked it the storm tore up the yard or trees?.....I said what storm. I only live three minutes from there but never knew it. They had a quick burst of winds and thunderstorm downpour..it even tore up signs and a roof off a business near him. Those cells can pop up quick and be gone quick in our summer heat.
we got a small shower yesterday. not a lot but just enough to give the plants and yard a nice little drink. we have 70% chance today and tomorrow so hopefully will get some more. high today of 88...wow.....that is wonderful. it was so cool yesterday evening....hubby and I sat on the porch for awhile just enjoying the nice breeze and watching all the birds.
According to my rain gauge, we got about an inch of the wet stuff yesterday. Woohoo!! It was absolutely gorgeous out this morning with a cooler, less humid temps and a very nice breeze. I was able to get some things transplanted that should've been in the ground months ago. Now I just have to keep them alive during the next heat wave.
Praying for our folks down in the valley and along the coast. That Alex has a wide reach! Some of the outer bands are already bringing rain, winds, and high tides. My friend has a condo on South Padre, and his wife decided to stay and ride out the storm. Not sure what either of them was thinking!
I hear you, those hoses are a pain.
I hope we continue to get rain. I continue to get these plants in the mail that i forgot I ordered. Its nothing like a good rain to get them started. :) My soaker hoses need re-working something terrible. I got tubers that has come apart or need goof plugs or need extensions. I think I am getting really old, I dont seem to have the strength to make the connections anymore. lol
i agree sylvia--nothing like a good rain and a few overcast days to get new plants started--kind of gives us an excuse to buy new plants doesn't it?
Sure do! ... and Spring Hill keep sending me these online deals ... I wish they stop :)
of course you can always have them take you off thier list!!
but then you might miss something that you just have to have right??
LOL you are so right! I was getting really clever with them too. First I get this email that I was getting 25 off 50 until 7/15. Second I get this email up to 35% off. I had about 11 items that was going to cost me 36.63 with shipping. I didnt have the money, so I held off. I got a third email that the penny sale was on, I looked in my cart hoping I could add more goodies, I be darn my bill was 90.63!!
All this took place in a few weeks! I am patient it will come around again ... I sure want that red and blue Hellebore!!
oh that penny sale did you in!!! too funny!
Wow. We got almost 3 inches of rain in about 35-40 minutes a little bit ago. it is finally slowing up. I hope all my flowers didn't wash down the hill. it looked like a river running out there.
We were due some today and/or tomorrow...nothing yet. The hubby mowed out front as the last (Alex) deluge made the grass power up.
We won't get any tonight so maybe we can mow in the morning. We are suppose to get rain for a couple days after that.
we stopped our mowing for 2 weeks when it was so dry that the grass didn't grow and now after less than a week it looks like a jungle out there! sometimes i think florida would be wonderful to garden in but i guess all that rain could cause some problems too--
90 percent chance of heavy rain for San Marcos tomorrow.
Hi Jujube!
Well the sprinklers were started since we didn't have rain in a couple days....but just as they finished it had to rain for a few minutes! LOL! You just can't trust those weathermen.
Pouring down all day long here today..anybody got an ARK????...lol..hope my hubby and son can get home tonite..
Not so much as a sprinkle in Rowlett yesterday. And unless that big cell (coming up from the Houston area) takes a tack to the east, we won't get any today either. :-(
Carla
well i cleaned out the gutters (at least on one side of the house) and i am getting too old to do that! anyhow it can rain now! my gutters are ready again
I had to climb up on my mother-in-law's roof last night. It is a very tall two story. I put on a harness and she tied a rope around her body on the other side of the roof so we could clean the never cleaned gutters. They were so heavy with leaves they were going to drop the next rain.
oh that would make me feel better about my filled to the brim gutters except you have the very tall two story which is such a good reason to put off cleaning gutters! i on the other hand live in a one story ranch--hard to come up with a good excuse for myself!!
We gave up on gutters a couple years after moving in here. They caused some rotting of the roof edges, I am sure from lack of cleaning them out. Now in areas where it pours off the roof, we put some stones for it to pelt.
I love the rain chains but haven't got a good place to put one since we don't have gutters.
i wish we had gotten rid of gutters too--but instead my husband got them replaced!
just saw some pretty rain chains at an upscale nursery today--very pretty!
I am taking a class on making a rain barrel--we leave with the rainbarrow
We finally got the screened over gutters and they do work. the stuf on top dries and blows away and the gutters stay clear.
I saw somewhere that they made rainwater tanks by cutting out the bottoms of two stock tanks and stacking on a third one...beyond our skill sets here.
I went swimming at the falls in the rain around 9:30pm in San Marcos. It seemed like the rain and the water were the same temperature. It was pretty nice.
Well, it was nice until I fell on my rear and bruised all kinds of bits and pieces. I sit strangely as I write this.
Oh my, juju, that made me laugh.
I lunched with a group today and a friend who is pretty fluffy and on a walker said she got down to fix something on her toilet and couldn't get up...she called the fire dept. as soon as she convinced her dog she wasn't down there playing. The fire guys came and helped her get up AND fixed her toilet.
I have an relative, that I shall not name, who sat down on the toliet with the seat up and got stuck and had to be pulled out of there.
Good times.
omg! lol
Well we had another Monsoon today, the third one this week.
Spring Hill sent another 25 off 50.00 again but I am too broke at the point.
Guys, you are just too funny!!

I am so happy we have rain..it's been really good for my garden..which is finally looking like a garden instead of a cemetery! (skeletal plants!).
I too am glad that it's saved me dragging out the hose!! hahahaha Wanted to share a fav photo of mine I took on June 11.. as it was rare to get so many photos before it flew away!!
