I think we're approaching 2 1/2 inches of rain, so our dry spell broke at last!
Rain at last!
Push some our way, please. We had a cold wet Winter but now it is really starting to dry out. I really hate to water plants in April and am a bit worried about this Summer.
We finally got rain last night and then off and on throughout the day today. We're up to more than an inch. Woohoo!
Hey!! I am hardly getting anything over here!!! hahaha.. it comes & goes of course..but it's not much when it is here!!! hahahaha HOWEVER... you can have the BIG stuff.. 'cause when I get a lot of rain the entire east side of my home is like a swamp!!!! I live in a mobile home park & our lot is close to the end of the street & all the water runs toward our end!!! Our street used to be called Runningbrook!!! It was well named!!! hahahaha... glad they took it away though.
We live in SW Austin and in the last 3 days we've had a bit over 3 inches of rain....YAY!
Altogether, we've gotten close to 6 inches so far. Fantastic for the garden and aquifer, but of course, I wouldn't want any more people to die, so I just hope now it will stop for a while.
Still just a drip here and a drip there, come on rain.
we are getting rain but not a deluge.. I am not complaining as we have had a lot of rain in the past.. I am glad we are getting rain however as the lakes may still need them & we certainly need to be prepared for summer!!!!
We're up to 1.5" now. It's slowly, very slowly, moving eastward.
Thanks Stephanie!!!! hahahahahahaha
It is just starting to come down here. It has misted all night but no real rain. I would love it if it just gave us this slow rain all day.
I checked the rain gauge this morning and we're at about 2.25". Much more rain than the weather folks predicted!
Arlington got a good soaking. Not sure how much but things are saturated and that is a good thing. Haven't watered much this spring but was worried I needed to start.
C
stephanietx - Those are not weather folks.....they are weather GUESSERS.
LOL Morgan! They just go by the info from the NWS. You can get most of the same info from their website.
Well... I must admit.. we eventually got a downpour. Our area got 1.5 inches of rain.. my birdbath was overflowing!!
Its been raining here for the last three nights. I hope it continues until the end of the month to get all my plants going. We got a lot to be thankful for though, we dont have to deal with the Volcanic ash.
Yes, indeed! One of my nephews has been trying to get out of Amsterdam for a week now!
I would love to be in Amsterdam.;)
that's true Sylvia... I am thankful for a longwer growing season here.. compared to where I used to live I couldn't grow half the plants I can now! hahaha
Yes we do have a longer growing period here. My Hosta buddies in the north is still under a lot of snow. My Hosta buddies here start complaining in July or August about the sun burning up the Hostas. I say "go for it", the sun increases the size of the rootball ... and July or August I am tired. September, I start planting for spring. :)
In the last few rains we have a combined total of about 8/10 and that is after over a month of nothing at all. I do not like having to water in April. My Hostas and Brugs will have to make it on their own but I will not let my fruit and vegetable garden go with out.
We've been some kind of rain-free zone for the past couple of weeks, too, as all the storms go around us. The top bit of soil is drying out, but Ah! if you dig down a couple of inches there's plenty of moisture. (As opposed to last year when halfway to China was still bone dry...) I'm trying real hard to make sure I don't encourage wimp roots by watering based on the surface.
You just need to imagine more rain then..........I'm in SW Austin and we've had over 3 inches.
If wanting rain and visualizing rain worked, we wouldn't have lost plants and trees here last summer. We got a good amount a week ago, but I wouldn't mind some more. It's so nice when you don't have to water all the time!
I agree... though I need the exercise dragging out the hose is not my idea of fun! hahaha
I invested in a small water thingy! I've drawn a blank to it's proper name! hahaha.. it tells me when I need to water! I just stick it in the garden's soil.. in various places & depths & really helps me. I know I can stick my finger in..but I can't always trust my fingers as I have diabetes, so pricking my fingers can leave them numb sometimes! hahahaha
CINDY!!! lol lol ...you are too funny! I can just see you running around poking your finger in the soil.
I hear ya on the water hose! .. and the yard man leave it sprawling all over the lawn, I just know the neighbors are talking about me. ... but I made up my mind, I am going to invest in one of those hose retainer thingy that automatically roll the hose back in. I had the kind you use the lever to roll it back in ... but that was hard to do too. So I am just going to save me 89.00 to get me one.
Sylvia.. I too had one of those lever hose thingy's.. when I had to get a new hose I couldn't use it anymore as the new hose was thicker! So I have a "hanger" type that I have put in the ground..it's a lot easier for me.. it's usually me that has the hose all over the yard & the lawn guys are picking it up for me.. only I try not to do it a lot!! hahaha
I watered this morning... as it hadn't been done since the last rain.. I just hope we don't get rain on Sunday for the RU!! hahahaha I know the plants won't mind!! hahahaha
Cindy I am worried that my hose is too thick for this automatic thing also, its heavy as all out. I invested a lot of money in this hose because it seemed I was always buying a hose. Granted this is about three year old and works fine ... until I ran over the spout with the car!
Whats this hanger thing you are talking about?
Sylvia, do you know of the hangers that you can attach to a house? it's like a hump? hahaha.. well.. mine is a metal standing one & it's not very big but sturdy! I wish I could remember where I bought it from... it's bugging me that I can't remember. of course I've had it for a few years & it's never rusted. Mine is in the ground next to the water spout.
I am sorry I don't have a picture of it either.
Cindy I would love it if you can post a picture if before I invest in something hats not going to do me any good or I cant install. lol
Okay folks, time to do some rain dancing! We're so dry!
What happen to all the rain? With all that flooding in the south ... I was sure we would get more rain.
It ramped up after it got to the east of us. My MIL lives in western TN, about 90 miles southeast of Memphis. She was without power for 2 or 3 days. She's supposed to have her power restored today.
I just pray the world dont have any more disasters coming.
Sylvia, my apologies for not answering you sooner, I have so much catching up to do in just about everything I have online, as I have been busy in the great outdoors! hahaha. Here is the hose hanger I was referring to...hope it is clear.
We got some rain the other day, & this time I am not complaining as it made it easier to weed the garden yesterday! hahahaha. we are due for more tonight/tomorrow..just as long as it stays nice for the weekend!! hahahaha

OK Cindy IC ... yours hang on the wall ... I would really need a professional person to put that up ... not any of the people I know. LOL
Thanks
Where did that TS just come from? It's gone just as fast as it came!!
We had about 2 minutes of rain.
I got about 10min of heavy rain, thunder, lightning - then POOF! It was like it never happened.
