Hello All

LiliMerci, I am glad that you like the Clematis. The one in the picture is 'Belle of Working' and the blue flower above is a Duranta. It has been blooming for a while. I have a white one as well but no flowers as yet. I have been looking for a Duranta variegata.

Metrosideros, thanks for introducing me to those rare, unusual plants. The orchid is very pretty, but I have to find a Shingle plant and the Pearl Anhurium.

Joeswife,I learned something new from you again, I was not aware that the ground ginger was winter hardy (I did not take the time to look them up). I assumed that they needed protection in the winter, I have had a Chinese ginger for years, taking up valuable space in my GH.

I am so proud of my Heliconias this spring, I have quite a few blooms. Texasbigleaves advised me to water them a lot over the winter, which I did. and it works. (big grin)

Rj, it is so good to see your plants doing so well, especially old faithful the Fern.
The vine in your first picture is a Helicopter vine. I could kick myself for not buying one when I was at Zone 9. It was offered, but was a little too expensive for me.
Yes I do remember the pink flowers, Patty and I tried to sweet talk him out of his stock plants, without any luck. I am so jealous of yours!

phughes, I am sorry that you lost your Dombeya Wallichi. I am sure that we will be able to find another, I know how much you loved that plant.
Let me know when everything is settled with Craig's Homecoming, I am sure it will not take too much arm twisting to get DH to go on a Fishing / plant shopping spree. Today is my 35th wedding anniversary and he owes me a present. lol.

Hi Prita!

To help you find them, Pearl Anthurium is Anthurium scandens, and the Shingles Plant is Rhaphidophora celatocaulis.

RJ, your Garden looks lovely/ I am glad things are coming back stronger.
Lou, I know how you feel about programs on the computor.. yuk.
Patty, I keep looking at this bag of Pink Bag of Stuff for Patty.. are you ready yet? I thought you might be too busy with Craig.. I am glad he is coming home.
Rita, I saw a home with osterich fern coming up in front of it and fell in love. The Macho Fern from Padre Islands is outside now, with cute curley fern heads. I was told it is not a winter hardy fern, so I think I might like the ostrich ferns... LOL
Another peekaboo was peeping at me today.. do you recognise it?

rita, happy anniversary. celebrate big!

i'm not gonna talk about my banana....

Orangeburg, SC

Congratulations and Happy Anniversary, Rita. Thanks for the invite. DH and I will be celebrating our 26th on Thursday. I hope that I get greenhouse for a present. You guys are making me so envious with your beautiful plants. LOL.

Rita, your yard is awesome. I too have a Belle of Woking clematis, but I'd lost the tag and didn't know what it was until I saw your picture. I had a chance to buy a Duranta, but put it back when I found out that it was frost tender. At the time, I hadn't thought about overwintering it in the garage. I'm learning so much here on DG.

Everyone's pictures are so beautiful. Please keep them coming.

Red Oak, TX

Metrosideros, thanks! The proper names will make it much easier to find those plants. So far, no luck finding a source to purchase the shingle plant, they are out of stock.

Many thanks for the good wishes on my anniversary. I did get a new Toro tiller that I needed , the old one had no power.

Joeswife, I love the Ostrich ferns for the shaded area of the yard, I also have these noid ferns that take abuse and keep coming back.

Debbie, let me be the first to congratulate you your 26th wedding anniverary! I hope that you get that GH.
The Duranta are very easy to overwinter, they will grow very fast in the summer, I will usually trim them back before I take them in for the winter.

Thanks everyone for the congrats. I need to get some pictures to post. I've been working more hours than usual, so my gardening time is limited. But I'm still having fun. I need to plant some flowers. Gotta go!

Red Oak, TX

candela, Thanks, I will check out the website, maybe I will get lucky.

Joeswife, I love the dark foliage on your weigela. Do you know if they will fade in the summer?

Debbie, I hope that you have the day off tomorrow to shop for your GH. (smile)

I have all those gingers just starting to peek up, they are in pots.... in the ground, full or part sun or all shade or what?
( the shell, costus and some other three kinds other than my native ginger)
Rita your back garden is beautiful.
this iris is in a cemetary and it is old old old.. my college girl and I did litter detail on the path leading up to it.. it is a natural wildflower area./ then the cemetary is in full hot sun.

I know these are not tropical, but.. I don't have them and thats why they are tropical to me.
these were all over the natural part of the road we cleaned and threw seeds down in.

Thumbnail by joeswife

they are lovely and SO blue

Keaau, HI

Those blue flowers are really petite. Looks like they would break in a rainstorm.
What do you call them?

Thumbnail by Metrosideros
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

That is blue flax growing native in Kansas. We also saw white and yellow native yarrows in bloom.. this is a small area of a large field of these we got. This is the white with a native grass in bloom

Hi Debra!

The last few photos I've posted are of Cochliostema odoratissimum, a Dayflower Family (Commelinaceae) epiphyte that looks like and grows in the same niche as Bromeliads from Nicaragua to Ecuador.

Joeswife, thanks, I have most of my ginger plants growing in partial shade on the east side of my house.
How appropriate for you to plant seeds and clean trash from the roadside on Earth Day, and with your daughter. How sweet is that!!!

This is Hibiscus High Voltage, I thought that it would die after all the flooding, but it is back!! Unfortunately my old Pride of Barbados seems to be dead.

Metrosideros, that is a magnificent plant! It kept me occupied researching it on a rainy morning. thanks.

This little Philo. Corsinianum is only 2 ft tall, but I am proud that it is putting out new leaves.

This is a new Mandarin Honeysuckle. The tag listed the color as orange but it looks yellow to me.

This is a very pretty Golden Japanese Forest grass, that is listed as a colorful ground cover for shady areas. love it!

Rita, I love that Mandarin Lonicera, I have it too.. John Clayton is a true Yellow. tho... with little trumpets. I like that Japanese Forest Grass.. it is very pretty! I am waiting for my Pink Pampass grass to get kicking.
I am loving your Gardens. Thanks.
