youir good BD wishes came true. I had a great day. can you believe that Debra and I are practically birthday twins? lol

My order from Brian should be coming in any time. 1 Siam ruby banana and two black alocasias Diamond Head (I thinkt that's the name).

The only ee that has shown its head so far is Elena, the wonderful chartreuse one. My Thai black banana has also come back. The var. banana: I can't even THINK about the possibility of that one not coming back. The corm under the soil is firm, but I don't see any shoots yet.

Randy, tell me what's going on w/ yours. I need moral support.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Happy Birthday!

Well mostly good news to report. The weeping bottle brush is blooming, have firemans cap coming back in front, 1 jacaranda and 1 flamboyant tree both coming back from the base, Rangoon creeper and Beaumontia Grandiflora coming back in front, all of the Hibiscus are coming back, Dombeya, Iochroma and Ugandense coming back.
A lot of things in pots are also coming back.

I even have painted bamboo coming back, but it all will take some time!

It is going to take a long, long time for things to look good.

I enjoy looking at everyone's pictures. Beautiful plants. One day I will post some. Prita, I think that your noid philo could be Philodendron 'Xanadu'. I have one that looks just like it.

Mount Vernon, OH

anyone know of any unusual looking shrub/plant/tree that do not get real big for zone 5? I am redoing my landscape and need some ideas. Lol. thanks.

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

oh Dave. I'm so envious.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Good Morning all.

It's amazing to see a flower that one grows in the wild is the same one others have to pamper to survive. LOL

LiliMerci, thanks for the new thread!

vossner, fingers crossed for your variegated banana to come back.

Rj, that is a very pretty amaryllis. I'm glad to hear that everything is making a comeback, it seems as if Mother nature did a little trimming and pruning for you.

This is a Thai yellow variegated banana, still alive!

Metrosideros, thanks for all the entertaining pictures, they make me want to go on vacation as well.

Joeswife, it is nice to see all that color in your yard, and your new pond. I hope that you are enjoying Spring as much as I am. (except for the allergies)

tishrh, I am sorry but I could not come up with an unusual plant for zone 5, hopefully someone else will chime in and help.
I have always admired the Japanese Maple Acer palmatum 'Butterfly' but I am unable to grow it in my zone.

Deebie, welcome, and we thank you for your very nice comment. we will be waiting to see your pictures.
I do have a Philo Zanadu as well, and I compared the leaves, the noid has much bigger leaves and they have quite a few brown spots on th petioles and leaf blades.

Hey Prita,

Your noid Philo may be Philodendron lacerum. Any more photos of the plant?

Mount Vernon, OH

prita, that is fine I am thinking maybe a walking stick...I have to measure to make sure I have enough room. Thanks for responding.

Red Oak, TX

Metrosideros, thanks, here is a better picture.

Beautiful pictures everyone.

Dave, you make me ache for a vacation there! I think Rita's philo. is pinnatifidum (note the blotches on the stems), which I do not believe P. lacerum has?

Akebia (chocolate vine) about to make its flowering event here.

You are welcome. So glad to hear many of your plants made it through a tough winter. For some reason my butterfly bush is dead, which is so sad cause it attracts so much butterflies! I think it was the heavy rain that did it in.

Keaau, HI

Hi Rachel!

Prita's noid Philo certainly looks like Philodendron pinnatifidum with deeply cut lobes and channeled, red splotched petioles. I couldn't see that in the previous photo.
Beautiful plant!

Red Oak, TX

Hello Everyone

Metrosideros
RachelF, thanks very much for identifying my Philo. I will be sure to make a marker for it. I always promise myself that I will remember, but you know what happens.

Here is a backyard picture while waiting on tropical plants to bloom.
