Victor, love the photos of your japanese maples.

How many cultivars do you have? (I hope that's not an intrusive question; I apologize if it is.)

Can you offer any info on the least expensive vendors or sources for JM's? They can be expensive.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

check out wildwood nursery, davidsansjapanesemaples.com, and topiary gardens.

wha,

thanks for the info..always looking to save a buck or two...

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

no problem - topiary is the lowest priced and she has a huge selection - they are not big trees as they are grafted and grown in syracuse, ny - davidsans has large trees at a reasonable price - tell either of them i sent you and they will take care of you. victor orders a lot from wildwood, i order there too although usually only if the other two do not have what i want - greer gardens is another source.

i just referred a dg'r from CA to topiary he ordered two trees got them was impressed and ordered 4 more.

Thanks, BA. I have between 40 and 50. I would also add Fairweather Gardens to Bill's list. All the ones I've gotten from them have thrived. Villa Taranto is from them. I have bought a few from Mountain Maples, but have not bought from them in years. I got Orangeola and Washi no o from them.

Thank you, guys, I appreciate the help.

Victor, in the "Plantfiles" section of DG, the JM Orangeola is shown in a May 2007 photo (beautiful!); I was wondering if you trim it or leave it alone.

Never have.

There should be a 12-step program for people like me who love japanese maples (and another one for hosta lovers).

I haven't admitted it's a problem! ^_^

Victor the lilacs are great. We will celebrate our famous lilacs here in late May maybe earlier since the spring has come on so early. Its a really big deal here and planned years in advance so I suppose the printers who do the posters and ads and all the PR stuff has to wait until the parks people say within a few weeks ,when the trees will bloom.
People come from all over the world to see the lilacs so it would be disapointing if there werent any this year because they bloomed a week ago. lol

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Great shots Victor. The lilacs are all budded up and getting some color here. A few sunny days should get them popping open. They are really early this year here too, like most things are this spring.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i have a couple lilac blooms, most are still waiting for warmer weather

yes it does.. looking good!!!

Nice pics JoAnn. Your garden is looking good and growing well. Things are way ahead of time around here this year too, that is everything except the gardener who seems to be always later with things than she should. The last ten days or so of cooler more normal weather seems to have slowed things down a little bit I think and may have saved the bulb blooms from fading too fast.

I think the vinca is a keeper, just have to teach it to stay in the corral.

Vinca in small doses can be elegant.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I find it easy to keep under control... it's real easy to pull
