Hello To All;
Barb - you must be so proud of DGS! My DS played baseball for years but he was the kids in the outfield counting clover! Tennis was much more his 'thing'.....
Betty - Do you think we should start planning your Disney vaca with the Grandsons!?!?! Oh how much fun that would be ! They are all the Perfect age too !
Debbie - glad to hear the 'not-so-bad' news and hope that you are able to have some "Debbie-time" to have a break from everything...
Trisha - LOVE the Honda products.... you've got a great van there!
I'll check back in a bit.... Had an Iris bloom Crissy - but waiting for the one next to it to get a good "pic"... first "bloom" of the year. (Not counting stuff I planted in 2010)....
Hugs,
Mary
Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Visit with friends...
Congratulations Bev. That's wonderful....
YAY Bev!!!
Glad to hear the not so good news isn't so bad news Debbie. Hopefully he will regain some of his eyesight as the pressure decreases. Debbie maybe you'll be able to go to the show and meet your friend in May, that would be perfect!
Well folks I've got to get to work, lots and lots of drama in this office today. My goodness!
Bev, how wonderful, will make things so much easier for you..did you keep at least 1 lot for yourself? Were they on the market for some time? so glad that things are improving for you..when I don't see you post for a few days it gets me jittery...miss my Bev and especially miss the lovely photo's of your gardens...
The ground had a light sprinkle of snow this morning, let's hope that is the last of it.yoww not good...last night before leaving with the boys I took a tour of the gardens..I swear everything has grown 4" since I look Monday or Tuesday..if things continue as is I'll have my secret garden by the end of the month..you should see the leaves...excited as can be..
Debbie...lol at your 'freedom' thoughts...even IF you don't drive I can come across to pick you up for a few days..could leave work Friday early then bring you back on a Monday or Tuesday...I'd be thrilled to do that..so many things to show you!!! July would be the best..then you could enjoy my garden and give me ideas...imagine Paul is getting discouraged..maybe the new glasses will help..now, you say you'll be at the show on the Thursday - 22nd. possibly..I'm sad, I'll be going either Friday evening or Saturday morning...am looking forward to it, see all their treasures..am sure they'll be an idea or 2..I think of you often Debbie, every time I see 2 stray kitties that think they now live at my house I think of you taking all those kitties in..I know, will pack them in a box next time I visit and bring them to you..wouldn't you like Canadian kitties???? lol
Speaking of ideas..couldn't resist although I should have there was a magazine when I stopped for coffee saying 'take me home/take me home' oooh it's called Outdoor Projects - 25 all-time best..know I've got books with some of them so this must be an anniversary edition with the best of last years projects...$15.99 so there had better be something I want to make...
Mary, I've been telling the boys to get their parents to apply for passports otherwise we'll have to stay in Canada...wouldn't Disney be a grand trip..Kyle & Noah spend 10 days at Disney Resort, don`t think Braedon or Caleb have been...and yes, I could stay at mom`s in Clearwater for a few days, spend a few nights at Disney and Epcot..hmmm a thought..I better start pushing..look forward to seeing your photo`s..be awhile before I can post mine...but...maybe a tulip shortly...
Promised myself I`d buy a shrub a week at least so will take the back way home so I can stop at the nursery, sure hope they have that continuous bloom lilac tree in, if not I`m sure I`ll find one that says `take me home`
Went and looked for the frame I had - same as the one the stained glass piece was in..took measurements and ordered the glass this morning..if it`s ready this aft. or tomorrow I`ll start being creative again...
I did enjoy my evening with the boys..chinese it was..Kyle & Noah are getting too big for their britches, while travelling to the restaurant they were gabbing and laughingly Kyle said, `don`t feel like cooking tonight grandma`` while Noah says, `you know grandma doesn`t do cooking - she`s creative, artsy, down to earth and loving but she`s NO cook!`` too cute for words....
Barb, 10`s a lovely age isn`t it..they are children and yet so grown up..nice that you are able to get to his games..he lives nearby then...will Sean help you with the flower garden...will you be doing other projects for the sale other than table runners..placemats perhaps..know that a lady here does quite well with chair cushions and placematts that match..
Audrey what happened to your sewing machine..don`t you find sewing comes in spurts, I go from painting, to sewing, to stained glass, to knitting and crochet , to gardening and then it starts all over again..maybe you and the machine just needs a break..
Last night I was looking at the newspaper and flyers that get brought to my door, the newspaper had an article..the area quilt guild made in the last few months I believe it was 182 quilts..local doctor is going to Haitii and taking them with him..amazing what a group can do to make a difference...I was telling Suzanne that soon I`ll have too many afghans but it fills my time here in the office..we`ve come to the conclusion that I should make lap throws and bring them at Christmas to the Seniors homes, a lot of those ladies or men have no families and would love them so that`s my plan..could make some knitted ones on the knitting machine as well..
Crissy, nothing like having to wait on someone else to do your job, then it seems as though it`s you that is behind...anything special planned for this weekend or are you and Dave still working on the gardens..
Trisha, do you have your bike yet...am thinking of asking for a new one for Mothers`Day..I have an old antique one only because I didn`t think I`d enjoy the area trails but I do soooo maybe that`s what I should ask for...
By the time I leave this afternoon I`ll have 16 hrs. of office cleaning done this week..my hands are soooo wrinkled from the chemicals that is in the water..don`t ask, no, don`t wear gloves but should..hate the feel..not a speck of dust or dirt anywhere...
Off to look at my Family Handyman project book .. says it`s /1 in DIY Home Improvement... I`ll share if I come upon something spectacular...lol
Crissy, stay cool..you don`t need someone to take your sunshine away today..let the drama pass you by...
Morning everyone! Hope you all had a good nights sleep!
Betty, sounds like you will have another crafty week-end. What kind of glass did you order?
Tubby, how are you doing today? Did you sleep well?
I`m bored..lol...
Ok..priced 2 cement legs for my stained glass cement bench top I made, wow, $50. each so not cheap..
In this magazine they`ve done a table out of cement..quite nice, wouldn`t mind one, but it came to me, if I did a smaller version to meet the dimensions of my bench, why couldn`t it have legs such as these
Plain glass so the glass that I reclaimed from the original can still be used...if it`s nice outside I can sit and do the positioning and gluing...
Are you feeling any better..what is your plan for the weekend..at least although not hot they are calling for sunshine so should be enjoyable..
Well, I just got Todd of for his trip. He is going to Austin for a hot rod convention. I can't go because I would have to take dad, and those places are not wheel chair freindly, and I would spend most of the time in the motel room.
So I am going to make some pants for dad. He wears like PJ bottoms all the time, as they are easier for him to get on and off.
I am feeling better, no hives today! Thank God! They are not fun!
So I guess I need to get ready, and cut some fabric!
Later
LK
Just got a call, Pete, Roger`s cousin and a great friend to both of us has been fighting cancer for at least 8 or 9 years...he passed away in his sleep last night..his wish was NOT to have a funeral just to be remembered the way he was....he was 63..
LindaKay, no one could have stayed with Dad so you could have gone along with Todd..guess not or you would have done so..don`t think people who haven`t taken care of their parents know just how much of a commitment it is..I was telling Cathy the other day as she was saying she lost a few homes to clean that she should post that she`s available to do `sitting` for families who need caregivers for a few hours here and there, there much surely be a need for it..
Do you do the pants in flannel or cotton..Greg and Jeff just love weekends so they can wear flannel pants, so comfy..Melanie did learn how to make them last year so they``ve plenty..
Glad you are feeling somewhat better...
I could so get into trouble with these projects I`m finding in this magazines...yikes..
I am making cotton ones for the summer, but he has flannel also, for the cooler days! They are so easy to make, with an elastic waist, they sew up really fast!
So sorry to hear he passed away! He was so young. Saying prayers for the family.
Betty, so sorry for your family loss. You know, I told my family the same thing. Do not have a funeral for me, or I will haunt you forever! You and the kids say a private good bye....and that is it! I don't know why, but I think a big funeral and a wedding are two of the biggest waste of money in the world. So many better ways to do it.
Sorry...off on a rant.
What the heck happened last night? Woke up this morning to some amazing sunshine...walked outside and BAM! It was 37! I didn't take a coat or anything...so made quick the trip to get Shane to school.
Betty, I will be there that weekend for the craft show...not Thursday. I just made comment of that as the day it starts. Both girls work full time...so most likely I will be there on a Saturday....or I might go both days! LOL
Paul has his doctors appt. today....and I gave in and let Shannon take my van to work. So I did a mandatory "grounded" me at home so I can get some stuff done.
Bev, so happy you were able to make that sale....Scotty will really appreciate that chair. Give him hugs from me....some from you too!
Ok, I have to take the dog out......
Liz, thank you so much for your note....I truly appreciated that. I will try and write you later.
Debbie
Better for the elderly than trying to deal with zippers and buttons..he`ll especially like them because you made them...
Mom is suppose to drop in today witht he cross stitch quilt top kit, brought 4 of those bags I made for her to choose from..maybe that will put her in a better mood...Bernie called me this morning at 6:00am to check where I bought his gps, apparently it`s not working..told him mom was having a bad time, he said of late he`s never seen her happy...am sure that it`s because she`s not well, having to make decisions as to where to live, what to do with what`s left of their lives, not great I`m sure, enough to depress anyone..
Bernie, Charlene and Amanda leave for California on Sunday, he`s excited about that..later in May he`s off for San Antonio..because she works for a resort she gets hotel rooms for $10.00..leaving from Buffalo side...perhaps I should go with them...could always get a cot..
Debbie, if I know you`ll go Saturday then I`ll make sure that`s when I go.. or you could meet us at our hotel and come with us.... over an hour drive for you to Hamburg isn`t it..maybe you can direct mom and I to other shopping locations....how long since Shannon`s been driving..you`ll worry today for sure but a day without running should be a treat for you even if it includes housework..maybe on the chesterfield with a blanket would be nice..get cozy, get a book and enjoy...
Betty the day before yesterday there were no green beans coming up at all, not a sign, trace, nada. Yesterday they were 4" tall, seriously. I'm going to take pics this weekend. So very, very sorry for your loss, OMG he's my dad's age. Tons of thoughts and prayers to be sent your way. You should go with them! CA is nice and I miss being 3 hours away from the cold Pacific Ocean. Oh well.
I'm really working hard here, let me tell ya. I'm supposed to be researching something but I can't read what I'm reading, so maybe after I get some food...
OH! I've lost 5 pounds in 2 days doing Lean Cuisine lunches instead of fast food. I gained .2 pounds last night because we had pizza for dinner. Tonight should be Chinese Food night, but I'm kinda hoping not, I seem to be on a roll right now.
I know, it's almost like we've put growing chemicals on the gardens but NOT, sunshine and rain .. but so ahead of what we normally have..sure hope we don't pay by having the gardens at their prime in June...
You've done wonders..I've got to get back to Lean Cuisine as well..salads and those dinners were working wonders..I've not put on weight but I've stopped losing ..I so wanted to be yet another 15 lbs. lighter by now..don't want to be skinny, pleasantly plump will do...
Sometimes you stare at the computer for hours that you draw a blank, take a break and maybe it will all make sense... 3 more hours here before everyone leaves..if it wasn't for my rug cleaner being so loud I'd do most of the carpets now instead of staying late...
They called me to say my window pane is cut, 42" x 16" and they close at 5pm..they are about 5 minutes away so will have to pay attention to the time..need that glass so I can get started..lol..no rest for the wicked grandma used to say..
Yes, 63 is young..ooops I'm almost there...never a good age is it..Roger was 47, grandma was 99 and yet still too young...someone sent me a post yesterday that was done by a young child to God..thought I kept it but musn't have so I'll try to remembe the jist of it....
Dear God,
I know you make new people every day, why don't you just keep the old ones instead...
Out of the mouth of babes....
Back to cutting quilt blocks...
Betty, I'm so sorry for your loss. And you are right - 63 is was to young.
Sounds like you are keeping yourself busy. I had to laugh today. I showed my SIL how to make granny squares. She showed up the other day with bags full of squares and now she wants me to put them together. She called and wanted to know if I ws finished!!! I love her to pieces but I'm not Wonderwoman!!!
Off to put some more together..
What colors did she make? Like you needed something to do? LOL!
Good Grief Barb, that's a little fast to be calling about something like that, but then again, if you've never done it or seen it done you're not going to know how long it takes. She's excited!
Betty, my machine got to where it didn't want to quilt over the seams. I had to pull it through.I didn't like the repair guy. I think he'll tell me he can't buy parts for it and try to sell me another one. I told him I wouldn't be buying one from him!
Stopping in for a bit...
Crissy - I'll have to try a few Lean Cuisines! Any special ones you recommend?
Betty - I believe the boys are around 8-12? If you can swing a deluxe...I recommend the Beach Club... that's where we've stayed the last 3 times... and the POOL is just INCREDIBLE ! If the boys would love a day of swimming I highly recommend it... AND you can walk to Epcot from there... you enter a special gate right by Canada (how appropriate! ) ....LOL
Hugs to all going through a rough time...
We're doing a garage sale at MIL's tomorrow...so I have an early morning and a full morning....
Hugs,
Mary
Barb, omg she sounds like my mom, had no clue as to how long it takes to put together..she actually said I'll drop in one afternoon and while we visit maybe you could put it together...sooo taught her in an afternoon how to put 1 row together and said off you go..now she does it herself..perhaps you should take the time and teach her how..
Barb, glad you are doing so well with your runners..nothing like being on target..when I took the boys out Thursday night we dropped into Fabricland, some things were 50% off..I'd been looking at the Ergonomic Rotary cutter and wouldn't spend the $39.99 on it although I used Pat's and loved it but for 1/2 price I bought one, used it this morning and what a difference...more manageable...I'm about 1 yard short on Caleb's rag quilt..promising myself that I'll go to Fabricland while in town but will walk directly to the bolt of material and right out..no looking!
Crissy you are right, unless you are a crafter you have no idea how much materials are and the labor that goes into a piece..a project of love not something to make a wage with I'll tell you...
Yesterday by the time I paid the taxes on the window pane it was just shy of $25.00, this morning off to purchase the glue, have the frame and stain, but need backing strips and a quick drop into the stained glass shop should be another $25-40 so even though I said I could salvage most of the glass it's still will be a costly project...someone seeing the piece most likely would think it's about $100..yup, just for materials...no labor..but do do love our crafts don't we...that reminds me, left the glass in the vehicle and there is frost..should bring it in, take paper off and let it warm up..figure if I glue a few pieces here and there it should take forever to finish..
LindaKay, did you attempt to get those pants cut for 'dad'? how are you feeling this morning?
Audrey, nothing worse than not being able to depend on a repairman, some feel our machines are just too aged to work on and rather we purchase new ones..sometimes it's not the money part, we get accustomed to our own and want to keep them..is there anywhere else you could find a company that would do so?
Mary, garage sale, can't wait for the season to start..love looking around..sometimes you find a treasure! Not that I should be purchasing anything, more likely should be having a garage sale of my own..lol.. great suggestions for Disney..will have to have a talk with Greg/Jeff re kids passports then I can plan a trip to where ever...
Mom dropped by the office yesterday afternoon to drop off my quilt top..lots of work..you buy the quilt top to cross stitch but must purchase all of the embroidery floss..think I'll wait till I go to Buffalo on 23rd and see what they charge for embroidery floss..
I got all the rugs done, spent 2 1/2 hrs. lordy, with all the construction on the front street there had to be tons of sand in the rugs..mine is meant for home use..can't tell how it looks until dry..surprise/surprise Monday..just hope the dirt doesn't come to the surface...today, will get some of my own work done ..laughing here, only so many hours in a day and I've already used up more then 24 with thoughts of what I can get done..will be interesting to see just what I will get done..
NOT a warm weekend so I think it's an inside play day anyway..
Off for breakfast .. hate having to wait until 10 for Glass Studio/Fabricland..to me 1/2 the day is gone by then..oh well..gab later
Good morning Betty and all you wonderful ladies.
It's finally a nice sunny morning here in NH and we are so happy with it. It rained all day yesterday so a lot of the pollen is gone. As long as it showers every few days we will be okay with it.
I tried to show my SIL how to sew the granny squares together but for some reason she just doesn't get it. She is left handed and I am right and I imagine that has a lot to do with it. Oh well, another good thing to do while watching TV. She suffers from depression at times quite bad and this is just what she needed to keep her mind busy. So I don't mind putting her squares together for her. Her colors are blue and white - a light blue, a navy blue, a varigated blue and solid white. It's coming along and I'll take a picture later today when I have enought of the blocks together to show all the colors.
Off to clean the livng room. Have a great day all ---
Morning Betty. Yes our crafts can be pricey, but where would we be with out them! Bored stiff I think! LOL!
I got dad's pants cut, and just about done. I have two pair today, and I think I will go online to find more fabric for him. No one here sells fabric by the yard, so I have to drive at least 70 miles one way to buy it.
Hope you get your list of t hings done!
Back from town..70 miles, wow, you'd have to stock up wouldn't you? How many yards do you need for a pair..2 or 3?? Guess we're lucky to have fabric stores so close (or are we)..do you normally keep stock and a list of what you'd like to do? Did you ever make the thread catcher? lots of questions...
Stained Glass studio was closed, Gayle had a sign on the window saying due to family it's open by appt. only..not sure what is going on there..know her son about 25 is mentally challenged, was in a home, her hubby was going for treatment for cancer so not sure which it could be..will call her later today..
Did get to Home Depot..garden center not open yet but I did manage to get the trim I needed and some cleaning supplies, needed batteries for the little budgie I put in a cage near the door, he's not chirping..lol..need to hear him sing me a song..got my flannel at Fabricland along with some thread and yes, ended up getting more fabric because it was 40% of fabric..scissors etc. 50% off..
Would have loved to go outside and start that flower house brrr it's bitter cold even though the sunshine is out so it's inside..just checking all my tables..so laughing, I'm not short of 'what to do today'...will have to take photo's
I just came up from the sewing room for lunch. I managed to get one more snowflake sewn and a quilt top for Thunder made from fabric from Jaye. Just needs a backing and batting. I'll try for that tomorrow.
The sun is shining here too Betty but also very cold and windy. As much as I'd like to go outside, I'm in for today. The wind just takes my breath right away.
Norm made lunch so I'll be back later....
If nothing else Barb we're working ourselves into a tizzy...tell Norm wish I had one like him..lol..want to share?
2 rows left for me to do on this my 6th afghan...different pattern, nice way to use up left-overs..will do it slightly different
the next time..
Would love to paint this room but it would mean my painting over the headboard I painted and I'd have to go shopping to replace ..why just because I gave this room to the boys did I think it had to be soft blue?

Probably about 1 hr. left to do this bag...
Thank goodness my workshop has mega tables..lol
OHhhhh Betty, I love that quilt....that is so beautiful! Those colors are must so appealing. It just looks so full of love.
Well, DH news. He got fitted/tested for the new lenses and glasses. The BEST he could get in the left eye with correction lenses is 20/30. He is upset as he still has a bit of double vision and shadows. New glasses will be in this week. He is forming a cataract, and it is too small to remove yet...and since he just had surgery, they don't want to touch it anyway. SO, another surgery in the future. Eye sight won't get better til after.
Crissy, you are so busy! I like the lean cousine dinners also....I like the panini sandwhiches also. I have lost almost 30lbs....and still have so much more to loose. But its a start...and a struggle. I am NOT going through another summer like last year with all the swelling. I am determined.
I have to go rip the bed apart and change the sheets. We got a King size with our tax refund....and let me tell you...what a challenge to change that thing. I get quite the work out....especially with the kitties helping! It is their job to get the wrinkles out of the sheets ya know! haha
And Betty.....do NOT bring me any kitties from Canada! LOL I am in enough trouble with DH on a daily basis...unless your willing to take several of mine back with you.
Debbie
Betty, love the afghan! that is really pretty! I made the thread catcher, and I thought I posted way back. I will get another picture and post later.
Dad's pants, take just a little ove 2 1/2 yards of fabric, but I always buy 3 yards, and have some left over for my stash. Never know when I will need it! I try not to stock up on too much fabric, but I have 5 huge rubbermaid tubs full of it. Just never the right color when I need it, so off I go shopping again.
Debbie, sorry to hear about hubbies eye problems. The Doc's told my parents also, if you have cataract's they have to be really bad, before they can do surgery. Shame they can't remove them earlier.
Betty, that is a beautiful afghan...in a beautiful blue room !!
Morning, look he couldn't sleep...tossing/turning finally decided to get up, get at it and maybe lay down for a nap this morning instead of fighting it..bedding in washer, who knows maybe once it's dry and made I'll climb back in..
Debbie, love your photo...how grand that you've been losing weight, know it's for health purposes and no, you sure don't want to be going through what you did last year ..lordy, you couldn't even walk .. poor dear, but you were a trooper, got through you trip but at what cost...as for Paul, that's somewhat good news isn't it? could the cataract forming have caused the start of the detatched retina? now how did I know you wouldn't want me bringing kitties...just know if I did you'd be taking them in..that's what kind of gal you are...lol
LindaKay, you've done well with your pants then..that's quite a lot of fabric but guess it's the length that does it...you are like me, I've got trays/trays of paints on back wall and it seems whenever I want to paint something I don't have the right color..same with material..almost better to buy when you have colors and project in mind...
Yesterday was quite a day, worked on the afghan for a few hours, it's now done and ready to box...then for the rest of the day I had company off and on and didn't do much else..
Friends Pat and Don dropped in, I had mentioned doing a water feature for near the back deck so they were walking in the bush and found more logs which are hollow due to rot so brought them for me...can't do the feature until Bernie comes and puts a staircase and as I don't know which side he'll put it I have to wait..another project market on my 'to do' list..that list never seems to get blank..lol
Then Jean and Tom were up at the cottage and they dropped in, hadn't seen them since last Thanksgiving...no sooner did they leave that Cathy dropped in, she stayed for din/din and didn't leave until 9...at that time I decided to call it a day...
So after much tossing/turning I've been up since 3am..going for my coffee and finish watching a movie...
Goodness Betty, sounds like we were both tossing and turning! I just did not get out of bed till about 6:00. Your the early bird for sure!
DOn't work too hard today!
