This little one was singing, and showing his excitement too. I've waited so long for this shot, and then he was too close and I cut his tail off. Darn.
Daily Pics vol. 300
Great shots everyone!! LindaTX8 thanks for starting the 300th thread! Nice shot of the Cedar Waxwing!
Reddirt, nice shot of the Turkey and Bluebird!
Nice shots Lily!
Nanny, nice shot of the R-b Woodpecker, do the Nuthatch's visit that feeder? If they do I want one.
Duc, love the Acorn Woodpecker, all your shots are wonderful!
Mrs_Ed, nice shots! I too am on the waiting list for Purple Finch's. They can be seen here in the summer, just not by me yet. lol
GP, nice shots really like the wooing shot! Would have really liked to have seen that in person. Last time I seen Elvis there was 18" of snow on the ground.
Hack, nice shots! That Bigmos really gets you close.
Tiger, you may have missed the Ruby's tail but your 2nd shot is excellent, a very difficult bird to photograph.
Well, like Mrs_Ed mentioned some very nice weather is coming for us up north. :) Get to open some windows...got a couple of shots with the 400mm today the sun was out but it was only like 40f.
House Sparrow
Wow you all are speedy. Great pix all!
Hack, that is a black capped chickadee.
For those of you who don't know or don't remember, here's the Nest Box soap opera that unfolded last year.

By jord! There are so many wonderful pics. to comment on, but Hack I did some research and couldn't come up with an adequate explaination on my "Yellow Crowned Warbler" I even stumbled on Myrtle and other Neotropic migrants, and didn't find a comparable Warbler. Whoever he/she is. IT stayed with me all through winter right up to this present day. I do love its company.
Here is a Goldfinch, male goldfinch that I know for sure. Its color is patchy, it has been fun to watch the transformation on these brightly colored feathered friends.
I have one little Ruby-crowned Kinglet that spends 3 seasons here, and only leaves for the summer. Yesterday a flock showed up, and there are kinglets everywhere one looks along the creek. They love the willow thickets.
A flock..are you serious!!
Burd.....nuthatches, chickadees and titmice all used the peanut feeder!
Mrs Ed, that's a great looking pair of finches you posted. The Song Sparrow sure is a pretty bird too.
Red, beautiful daddy bb. Glad the nest is completed.
GP, love the buntings and goldfinch. Love the grackle and the wps "wooing".
Nanny, at least you're getting to see the Red winged guys. I see them everywhere but at my house-at least so far.
Rntx, glad you're seeing so many wonderful birds. Think the weather is affecting the hummers? I usually have more here by now and just have a handful of them.
Hack great pix of the ducks.
Tigerlily, now I know where my kinglets went (I just had a pair of them). Mine disappeared a couple weeks ago. Glad you're enjoying them, they sure are cute little ones.
Burd, wonderful closeups!!
Gras, nice shot of the vulture.
Lily, cute finch and white-crowned!!
Here's one of my Lesser Goldfinches.
Duc... why did you have to take the houses down?
Wow, Duc. How California Towhees differ from that of our Eastern Towhees. I love its muted coloring. I've been outside most of the morning tried to catch a pic. of some Tree Swallow (maybe) but they darted about so swift I wasn't successful at it.
Gary,
A face only mother could love ...
Those houses finches however are pairing up around here Duc. They often wooing and cooing each other and not one bit shy about PDA (Public Display of Affection). lol. Oooh I love your Oak Timouse as well.
Grackle ventured close for a look at the feeder. But found the birdlady with the camera on hand so it spared the site for other songbirds. Thank goodness.
tigerlily - even with its tail cropped, that little Ruby-crowned Kinglet is great. It's the first time I've ever seen why its called "Ruby-crowned".
Burd_Fotos - Quote, " Hack, nice shots! That Bigmos really gets you close." Yep, I find that I use the Bigmos exclusively, now. Haven't used my Canon 70-300 in a while. AND your HOSP shots are really good.
Grasmussen - You're so right, your Turkey Vulture has a face only a mother could love!
Mrs_Ed - thanks for ID'g your Black-capped Chickadee.for me.
Lily_love - I think I see the yellow splash of color at the front of the eye brow in your pic. I think that would make your White-crowned Sparrow, a White-throated Sparrow, instead.
ducbucln - Quote, "Hack great pix of the ducks." Thanks. AND I particularly like the pix of Bullock's Oriole and your Tree Swallows.
Now, I'm going outside with the camera. Skies are blue!
Hack
Wild Rose, we put the birdhouses up every year for the Tree Swallows but this year some very aggressive House Sparrows took all three of them over and were continually fighting all the swallows. I had read they will kill the bluebirds or put their own nest right on top of the bb babies and kill the birds. Needless to say, since my swallows are about the size of the bluebirds, I couldn't stand to think what would happen had we left them up. I've attached a picture taken through the kitchen window of the fighting that was going on.
Lily, we also have the Spotted Towhee which is almost like your Eastern, just has a few spots on the wings. I love the colors of these birds. Love the grackle in the pretty tree. Sorry your phoebe isn't nesting where it has in the past.
This is House Sparrows vs. Tree Swallows.
Duc, that's just a great action shot of the 'War of the Sparrows'!!! Best of luck my friend. Hope to see the Tree Swallows return please keep us posted.
hack, Great shots of the Coot and Ducks!
Tiger, Love the Kinglets! Glad you are seeing so many.
Burd, Very nice shots!
Gary, Love the Vulture!
Duc, Great shots of all your birds! Sorry about the House Sparrows. :-( You were very smart to take the houses down.
Lily, Nice one of the Grackle in the pretty tree!
Okay everyone. I'm heading out to the Eagle nest hoping to see some new developement. Wish me luck, I'll return tonite with more pics. Hopefully.
Ahhh MeadowLark, is that what it is? Nice Marna, I have never seen one yet. At the Eagle Nest. I saw two of them; a mature one and a Juvenile? Then there came a pair circling over head. Then before we knew it, there were 8, yes eight of them flew overhead. My camera wasn't able to catch those flying....I was so frustrated!!! I need to upgrade my camera...heading over to the camera forum and spying some good equipment.
Very nice Marna! any of them new for you?
I love Killdeer too.
Busy for a few days and it sure is hard to catch up! Wonderfull photos as usual everyone! I'm sure I don't have to tell all of you to keep up the good work;o)
Thur. afternoon DH and I took a drive to the lakes to see what birds had arrived so far and we were thrilled to see this beautiful owl on the way home!
Great Gray Owl, photo taken 25/03/2010 @ 4:07 pm, at Tunkwa Provincial Park, BC, Can.
A pair of cardinals & a hairy woodpecker visited the feeder yesterday. there as been a cardinal pair nesting here for some years. could be decendants of the first pair. Passed a hen turkey by the side of a highway while driving home today. She had better be careful.
Duc... I am sorry to hear that about your swallows! They are so beautuiful! I had heard what House Sparrows do to BBs... I guess it only makes sense they would do the same for other similar sized birds.
Great Meadowlarks Mrs_Ed.
What an awesome experience Lily_love, that you get to watch an eagle nest near you!
Mcash70... Wow! That great grey is really spectacular! What an awesome sighting for you! Great photos too!
