Wild Rose, we put the birdhouses up every year for the Tree Swallows but this year some very aggressive House Sparrows took all three of them over and were continually fighting all the swallows. I had read they will kill the bluebirds or put their own nest right on top of the bb babies and kill the birds. Needless to say, since my swallows are about the size of the bluebirds, I couldn't stand to think what would happen had we left them up. I've attached a picture taken through the kitchen window of the fighting that was going on.

Lily, we also have the Spotted Towhee which is almost like your Eastern, just has a few spots on the wings. I love the colors of these birds. Love the grackle in the pretty tree. Sorry your phoebe isn't nesting where it has in the past.
