Daily Pics vol. 300

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

Lily_love - You're welcome on the ID help. I've never had an Eastern Phoebe visit.

ducbucln - I thought the pic of the Sparrows and Swallows arguing was great!.

pelletory - Quote, "hack, Great shots of the Coot and Ducks!" Thanks, pelle.

Mrs_Ed - Wow, three birds I've never photoed - the tree Swallow, Meadowlark and Killdeer. I especially liked the detail in your pic of the Meadowlark and Killdeer.

mcash70 - I thought your last pic of the Great Gray Owl was super.

Well, I had a good day outside with the Bigmos and 40D

Here's a female Cardinal just after she landed to feed.

This male Cardinal soon joined her on the ground.

I had a lot of Brown-headed Cowbirds today. This couple allowed me to get both in one pic.

This is the closest I've ever been to a Mockingbird with the camera. For some reason, my attention is drawn to its eye.

I saw movement in the shadows at one of my feeders. I had to use Elements 7 to lighten the pic - then, I realized that I taken a pic of one of my regular visitors - a Pine Warbler.

Its not unusual to see a White-throated Sparrow hopping around on the ground.

And for my last pic, a Yellow-rumped Warbler.

As you may remember from an earlier thread reply, I recently picked up some new knowledge - the bird in my photo is also known as a Myrtle Warbler, the variety of Yellow-rumped Warbler found in the Eastern US.

Daughter and I were checking out some yard/garage sales in Roseburg yesterday, and I spotted a woodpecker at an old farm. Went back to the vehicle to get camera and bins, and am so glad I did! A lifer for daughter, and a first decent view for me..........Lewis's Woodpecker!

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

I'd only seen the Lewis's once before, and it was quite distant, so I was happy to get half way decent photos for ID. This is a very seldom seen bird in our area. Not the best, but they'll do until a day I might be able to get better ones.

MargaretC what wonderful experience to have seen with the Great Gray Owl! Iris it's wonderful to see wild turkey walking about. Hack, during the winter those cowbirds mingle with Redwinged Black Birds and Starlings in big migratory flock? Just recently do we see them pair-up. Tigerlily, the Lewis's Wp is such a pretty bird. Thank you for sharing.

I spotted this Brown Thrasher nearby its nest. I'm keeping clear away from its nest for both the birds' welfare and mine. lol.

Winter birds [juncos, purple and house finches] are still with us, but the goldfinches' plumage is getting brighter. Filled the nectar feeders, though we have not seen any hummers yet. The phoebes are back, but no pictures yet. I just hope they don't try to nest on the 3/4" ledge above my porch windows again. The mud made a real mess on the windows!

The 2 I must mention are the Great Gray Owl...FABULOUS mcash!!!

Tigerlily....Very cool to see a different(new to me) Woodpecker!

This little Carolina Wren was all over the front yard and porch last weekend!

I watched this female Cardinal sun bathing. She sure is pretty. I've noticed Cardinals seldom come to the feeder any more since the weather warms up a tad. They're busy on the ground foraging along with Robins, Mockingbirds and Thrashers as well as Blue Jays.

Nan, those Wrens must have great antenae for mealworms. For every time I set mealworms out for Blue Birds, the wrens were the first one to find the mealworms buffet. lol.

Lily, Love the Brown Thrasher!!! Sweet Cardinal pic too. When I used to feed meal worms Carolina Wrens were always the first to arrive.

Nanny, Nice pic of the Carolina Wren!

Hi sunfarm, Sweet pic of the Goldfinch!

Melbourne, FL

You guys are taking wonderful shots. LOVE the owl....wish I could see one. Hack, your shots are really nice. Great find on the Woodpecker, Tigerlily....I have never even heard of that one. Beautiful! I think I saw more bird action this morning than over the whole cold winter. Between the nesting and fighting the birds seem to be going crazy here. I thought I was seeing two Mockingbirds tussling, then realized it was an adult feeding a young one! And it looked like the young one has been out of the nest for a while. I'll have some pics later.

Holy Cow! Go to bed early and look at all the posts!

No, Pelle, none of those were new for me.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Mrs Ed, great shots of the Tree Swallows. Love that Meadowlark photo!! Great one of the Kildeer too.

Mcash, wow, what a wonderful sight to see. Love the owl!! I love the "look" it's giving you. That last photo with the moss on the branches is just beautiful.

Iris, great treats for you to see too.

Hack, great photos of so many pretty birds. Loved the one of Mr and Mrs Cowbird, and your photos of the female H. Finch and Mocker are just beautiful.

Tigerlily, congratulations on the lifer. Gosh, how excited you must have been. It's a beauty.

Lily, that's a pretty and clear shot of the great looking thrasher.

Sunfarm, cute finches. Think about how much fun it would be to see the little ones in the nest-the mud can be washed away.

Nanny, cute wren.

GP, hope to see pictures soon. Can't believe you're already seeing the babies-lucky you!!

I still can't believe I'm seeing a few Dark eyed Juncos. They usually leave earlier.
