Watercan2, that is such a yummy clear yellow hibiscus.
Ge1836, I keep trying and failing with poppies including Royal Wedding. It makes me crazy.
Here is a "Then and Now" of one of the rugosa beds. DH pruned it a couple of days ago. It is a dreadful job to have to do. The in bloom photo was taken on July 2 2009. Patti
Countdown to spring! One Photo per Day Part 13
look at all those bird houses!
Wha, Funny that you noticed as DH is outside right now cleaning them out to get them ready for this year. Not up to your standards. The swallows show up here reliable on April 8th according to DH who adores them, but with everything being early this year he thought he best 'getter done' while it is not raining.
Victor do you grow my favorite H.'Loraine Sunshine' too? I do grow H.Lemon Queen, but it gets so tall and seems to be wanting to take over the world, while 'Loraine Sunshine' stays short and has a wonderful variegated leaf. Patti
No - I'll have to look for it.
Have the Lemon Queen....she is territorial. :)
Patti, what a great side by side, such stark contrast. Hard to believe it's the same area!
Do you have to prune rugosas??
Yes, you can give them a little hair cut now and then and they'll have more blooms for you.
Well Patti we will see how it goes this summer.
I have corydilis up but too small to photo and in the cold wind my eyes tear up so I cant see thru the camera anyway.
Its always something
That looked like a major scalping!
I loved the photos.....can't believe the hydrangea was so cheap! The rugosas look so pretty when blooming, but they are thorny...I had 3 up by the road when the town was using salt & sand in the winter...that's all that would grow up there, but I have removed all of them. Also loved the sweep of astilbes...wish I had space large enough to do that.
Jo, what color is your corydalis?
red There seem to be many plants in that garden. I probably wont see blooms until late April
We take the Rosa Rugosa down by 1/3 to 1/2 each March. We leave the hips for the winter birds. Cardinals especially love them. We take them down to below the bench on the porch. They where planted in 1983. Love them for Rose Hip Jelly. They were suppose to be all white, not! We have another big patch on the north side of the house. They never get as tall. Patti
great bird feeding picture
oohh I like that shot too Patti
