Countdown to spring! One Photo per Day Part 13

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hi Karen,

No, I don't clean it at all. I was more concerned about the water quality when I had the fish. But now that I don't anymore, I am not. I just take out dead leaves and debris and let the filters do their job.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

You're right, Celeste, it does look a lot like beautiful edgings. I just love it! Thanks!

Oh, thanks WC, but I meant the iris on the previous thread that you posted. Sorry for the confusion. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=7620750

Well, I'm surprised you don't have to do much cleaning of your pond, Victor. Mine seems to require a lot of cleaning in the spring. I had trouble getting all the leaves out when I had all the rocks in it. Do you find bigger ponds are easier to clean than smaller ones, or have you only had a big one like that? Mine is only about 4'x6'.

Very nice, ladies.

Karen - only had the one large one.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Lots of wonderful pics everyone. I am seeing life on a lot of things now with the warmer temps and this load of rain will really get things going I think. Sunshine and pretty blooms, what else do you need at the end of winter to put a big fat smile on your face. Lovely. Here are two things I hope to see return this season again. Verbena b. that re-seeds around and the butterflies that like them as much as I do.

Yellow HH from last year, noticed they have already sprouted about an inch out of the ground. They are on the Southern side of the house next to the foundation, counted 5 so far.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks. I received a new guide from Proven Winners and they are introducing more great-looking hydrangeas.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

That is pretty victor, like the pink/purple/blue tones.
Thanks Bill, I have the Black , pale pink too but I'm going to try some peach and deep pink this year I think.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Pretty HH and hydrangea, they would look really nice next to each other.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Celeste, do you have to stake the HH?

Ok not letting me post a pic

Jen I've only staked them one year, although last year they were leaning from the amount of blooms.

Warners, NY

Well I spent almost two hours and went almost completely bonkers but I finally managed to get one picture this morning. I think that finishes my day except I want to plant some sweet peas and a daylily I bought for three bucks in the super market. There is so much deer and rabbit manure out back that I may scrape some up and put it in the bottom of the sweet pea furrow.--------------------------------Weedy

Oh, I'm loving all of these blooms....great blue color on the iris, Weedy! My hellebores are doing nothing...I don't even have crocus foliage up yet, but I do have tulip, hyacinth, & daff foliage.

Great irises--sure deer & rabbit 'do' not underneath.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

pretty pretty pretty!!!

Warners, NY

The rabbits seem to leave them alone, although they pruned the rose for me. They have eaten kniphofia and forget me nots right to the roots and I'm worried about daylilies coming up----there's a big blasted deer out there somewhere but I can't seem to sight him or her, maybe it's that cute little spotted one I found staring at me on one of my paths two years ago, biggest hoof prints I've seen in a long while. I think the darn muskrats come up from the swamp too, the beaver are repairing their dam again and I swipe their debarked sticks for walking sticks----it was one of them that security wouldn't lrt me in the Fed Building with because it wasn't a real cane. took DW to yell at them before they decided I needed it----------------Weedy

Too tired to comment on all the photos but I do love them all!!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Great pics, everyone!

WC, thanks for the info on the iris. It's a pretty one for sure. I love your pic from today. Nice clump there!

I'm having a lot of trouble with my internet tonight. Will call it quits after this.

I like your latest collage, JoAnn.

Patti, I just love that rugosa! Beautiful!

Weedy, I can't believe they wouldn't let you bring that stick in the Fed Building just because it wasn't a real cane. Ridiculous!
