Greenshed Party

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

Party at Willows to celebrate and christen the new shed. April 10th after 10:00 AM. Lunch and beverages for sure. Bring plants to donate to the widow plant sale if you can. Bring plants to swap, seeds to exchange, whatever.
We can take a scenic drive along Hood Canal to the nursery. Lots of annuals.
We could go to visit Harmony HIll. It is a cancer retreat center and they have a garden and a maze to see.
We can go to Tawahna State Park. Walk among some huge fir trees.
Or we can do it all if you like.
Or nothing if you like that better.

We can have a potluck or I can make a stew and cornbread and get some Olympic ice cream. It's local and delicious.

Gwen,if I send the directions to you could you email everyone? Let me know, when you know, if you can come.

Vashon, WA(Zone 8b)

Willow, it sounds like you are planning an entertaining day. I am hoping to be there, but don't know for sure yet if I can make it. I have really enjoyed watching the construction of your new greenshed. It's an inspiration.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Hey, Patricia. I'm planning on being there. Can't stay the whole day (though those tours sound lovely), but I want the full tour of your place and your new shed and I'm looking forward to having lunch with everybody!

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

I'll be there, barring something unforeseen & mildly tragic.

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

I am so looking forward to this party. Should be fun!

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Anybody into Catholic statues? The front garden here has a 2-foot friar holding a bowl (Francis of Assisi?) big enough to fit a couple of slugs or maybe butterflies drink from it, I don't know, but I don't like little statues in general.

Thus starts my trade list.

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

I love St. Francis statues!!! Don't know what I have to trade, but I'll go out looking...

Willow, yes, dmail me directions and I'll email them out. However, there ma be people who are coming that are not on that 'DG email roster.'

Remind me, where is Union City again? You mentioned Hood Canal - that's not down by the Oregon border (Hood River) is it? I thought you were closer. I am planning on being there, barring work.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Gwen -

It's near the Hood CANAL - about 1.5 hours SW of Port Orchard. I'm thinking that I'll take the ferry from West Seattle and then drive . . .

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

It's only 45 minutes from Port Orchard. Also 45 minutes from Olympia. Would be about an hour and 45 from Edmonds via Kingston ferry. Probably a little less from Southworth via West Seattle but not as easy unless you know where you are going.

Gwen if you can include me in the email then I will dmail anyone else. Or people who know they are not on the email list can dmail me. The directions are simple. Main hwys until you get onto the Alderbrook property.

I will call Tils and let her know about it and that Laurie needs her if you want me to do that.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

45 minutes - even better!

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

OK, Gwen, he's yours.

Thank you!

Willow, I'm still confused about where it is and how to get there, but once you send directions, I'm sure I'll figure it out. Are you on our DG roster? If not, dmail me your name, address, phone, email, etc., and I'll add you.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Gwen - do you ever use Google maps?

Go to http://www.google.com
Click on maps
In the box, type Whidbey Island, Washington to Union, Washington
A map will appear. There are controls on the upper left hand side of the picture that allow you to shift the image and move in and out
The window on the left-hand side will give you driving directions
It's even better if you enter specific addresses

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

Look like the Edmonds ferry is the most direct route. Anyone want to carpool?

Buckley, WA(Zone 7b)

SK, If you and Suzybell would like to spend the night, you are welcome to stay at our house.

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Why, Lynn, THANK YOU! Bell, are you listening?

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Mom and I plan to be there, and as far as I know, Lynn is planning on carpooling with us, as well as Azorina unless something unforseen comes up. We are probably only going to have time to stay for lunch and a bit of social time, but are really looking forward to seeing everyone. Willow, have you decided if you want potluck? That worked out great at Pixy's. Is there anything else we can bring?

Kathy, if you are going to be there for sure, I will dig your little S.S. kid and bring him with me. He is very pretty right now, even if he is only one branch!

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

OK. I will make beef stew and cornbread and get ice cream. Anyone else who wants to bring something to share will be great. Salads, something to go with the icecream. I will have coffee, tea, and sparkling cider. Plus champange and dishes and utensils.
Gwen, you do have my info. pjbs.....I will send directions soon.
I will have potting soil and some pots, bring some of yours if you can.
I also have popsicle sticks for tagging. Many, many of them.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Thanks, Julie. Yes, I'll be there with plants for donation and hopefully a few things to "trade".

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

I moved more stuff in today but I'm not going to do pictures so you all will have something new to see. It is so fun. And my DH is thrilled with it also.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Oh drat- I missed a statue! I *heart* statues. :)

I'm still planning on being there, possibly with my Mother-in-law.

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Pony, I think there's another hidden in the shrubbery but fallen down. I'll look.

Anybody like wind chimes? I can't abide them. There's one here that looks like it was made by gnomes with a cosmic fetish.

Also, "Cox's Guide to Choosing Rhododendrons" dated 1995, courtesy of the previous owners. Is that of ANY use to anyone?

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

*guffaw* I really want to see what gnomes with a cosmic fetish would make. The imagination runs wild.

I love windchimes, but only the clinkety clunk ones... bamboo, shells, etc. Can't stand the metal ones.

And I will happily adopt any unloved statuary. :)

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

I have several metal ones. I don't mind them. My neighbors are okay with them too.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Is anybody interested in Carex 'Ice Dance'? I'll save some pups for people who want to have it. It's a nice evergreen plant to have in the garden if you have room. It does, however, need to be split a lot as it does so well here and I'm about to do that. I'll save a few for swaps, but can bring more to the greenshed party if someone is interested.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Kathy if you run out, I have some, too.

Vashon, WA(Zone 8b)

I saw a wind chime made with silverware and strings of beads. they were strung from a enameled cup. It was cute but kind of tinny in sound.

Kathy, if you are planning to take the ferry from Fauntleroy to Southworth, maybe I can meet you on the ferry and hitch a ride. That one stops on Vashon midway across the Sound.

Buckley, WA(Zone 7b)

I would love to have some of your Carex, if you have any left.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Heh heh. Run out? I have so much . . .

Okay, l'll bring some for you, Lynn. There's plenty!

Sure, Holly. I think that'd work fine.

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

I would also like a piece of that carex if there's an extra. I have a couple of small starts of my bronze carex also,

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Okay, Willow. I'll save some for you!

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Looks like Tracy might drop me off and go up to Hoodsport to his parents place for the day. So if there are any field trips I'll need to bum a ride from somebody.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Does anybody want the wild Dicentra? I have a few . . .

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

I would like a little of the Dicentra, please... :)

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Okey dokey. It would love to go with you!

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Thank you. :)

I'm looking forward to seeing everybody- I was so bummed I missed the last gathering. This will be fun! :)

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

Someone will be happy to haul you around if we go anywhere i'm sura ^_^

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Just strap me to the fender like a deer carcass... LOL

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Alchemilla mollis (Lady's mantle) - the regular large one
Purple Lunaria seedlings

Anyone?

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Awww! I adore Lunaria Annua- but I already have enough, the seeds that I sowed last fall have given me some nice babies. :) They're so pretty when they're dried- and you can spray paint them any color you want. :)
