That's bad. Hard to believe pesticides can cause such a quick changes though. Not like they just started using a new one four years ago.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

still have swarms of them here - do not know if there are any bee keepers around - have not seen any boxes in the back of yards.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Here too. Had plenty last year.

1/2 mile up the road from me a guy has boxes and makes honey. At one point last year or the year before we had a conversation about bees. At 1st they said cell phones were interfering with their directions to get back to the hive.

I've noticed a significent drop in them over the last 10 years.... makes a big difference on our fruits tree's .

Maybe we should start bee boxes. Most of us have blooms for them to nuture on.

There have been many theories. Virus, parasites, cell phones, pesticides, other chemicals, etc.

Thomaston, CT

Last year we had many bumblebees, but few honey bees...you'd think all bees would be affected if it was cell phone activity, or even pesticides....I feel we're using fewer pesticides now than say 30 years ago, much more organic gardening.

We are. That's why I have serious doubts about that. Also, the problem is all over the world. No way everyone is using the same pesticides. And the problem exists in rural areas - away from heavy cell tower density. I believe it's a disease of some sort.

Hoping to get to the National Arboretum while in DC. Was never there.
