That's what I was wondering, Allison.
I will fill it up right way this year Victor.. hopefully they will find it
I think once they find a feeder they lay claim to that one for the season... so it didn't surprise me they didn't take to the new one in the middle of the summer.. just hoping a new one came along and found it
Does anyone know if the window mount humming bird feeders cause more crashes? Since our windows are all on one side we don't get a lot of window crashes and very few fatal ones. In all the years we've had the window wall only one hummer has hit it and it survived. I thought it would be cool to have a feeder there but Holly is concerned that we would be putting the birds at more risk. Ric
I was wondering about that.
I never see hummers zoom like that the way other birds do.
cool!
I had one sit in my pussy willow most of the day just waiting to beat up the others that were trying to get near his feeder... I was actually hoping to stop the bird crashes into that window with the hummer feeder.. maybe they will see that one with it there... we usually get a few every summer
Okay, guess I'll pass that one up then. Most of my hummers prefer my plants anyway. I never get that many at the feeder.
We have a lot of plants that the Hummers like and we see them at the plants all the time but they come to the feeders, too. They like the Trumpet Vine and a surprise to me the Cannas. Our feeder hangs out by the Gazebo and you can easily sit there and watch them come and go at pretty close range. Also surprises how loud they are, boy they can really scold you if they want you to move. LOL HOLLY
the first time I heard one of them make noise I was shocked
Well if they're gonna be like that then maybe I will do the window one!! ^_^
:)
Victor, I have a window feeder that had plenty of activity until I got cats. I didn't make the connection at first why no birds were visiting until I witnessed the cat jumping five feet to the bird on the other side of the glass. The bird nearly had a heart attack.
something I would have never thought of
Oops - did not think of that. Thanks, Harp. Maybe I can put it upstairs.
Yup, I didn't think of it either! Do your cats go upstairs?
Sometimes, but not too often.
19 MORE DAYS TO VACATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yay!! About 11 for me.
Hey everyone...
I haven't been on in awhile...I pop in every now and then but, I usually go off to bed to sulk...lol
The end of December, beginning of January, I got pink eye...or so I thought. Several residents at the nursing home that I work had it, and since everyone there touches everything, I didn't even think anything more than I probably picked it up. Well, I got it again, and again, and then, the end of January going into February, I got it back to back. My general doctor was giving me Topramox eye drops (or however that's spelled)...this last back to back episode I went to an eye doctor. I went to the eye doctor over the course of 6 weeks. I did not have pink eye, I had a corneal ulcer. Well, the corneal ulcer turned out to NOT be a corneal ulcer, but fungal keratitis. SO, after seeing (no pun intended) a corneal specialist, and going through several bouts of eye drops and ointments, my eye is all better. The doctor's visits, due to my copay, and a "specialists" copay ran me about $200. The eye drops and ointments for the first go around, almost $200. The special fungal eye drops...EVEN with insurance/prescription coverage, $150! So, all told, I spent close to $500 between doctors visits, the specialists visits, and the drops. Eye is all better, but sadly, my plant buying is pretty much at a stand still...
I just wanted to give everyone a heads up. I promise to try and pop in more often, but I need to recoup...this whole thing has me so down in the dumps its not funny. Usually by now I have a butt load of DL's and Hostas waiting to come in, Lily and Iris in the wings, a few peonies, and orders from atleast 5-7 different sellers :-/ But I do have my eye health.
The other silver lining, I started the Atkins diet and I've lost almost 50lbs! My goal is to finally get down to 200lbs...15lbs to go :-) I got a little sick and tired of having to sit side ways to tie my sneakers, or getting out of breath to pick something up off the ground....lol.
I'll pop back in later.
Wow - sorry to hear about your eye problems, Thom! Feel better. Expensive, yes. But your vision is well worth it.
Congrats on the diet! Start walking if you aren't already. Keep up the good work!
The dietician that comes into our nursing home (she's contracted) suggested I go to a gym...I giggled, and said, "I sweat driving by a gym." I thought it was funny, she didn't get it...lol.
I did start walking the dogs, over the winter Paul and I got lazy, just tied Theta out to her lead, and let Iris run around the back yard to do her business...both dogs and myself are out of shape...so we started with small walks for now. I hope to increase them as the weather breaks and the summer comes on :-)
Dieticians rarely "get it" They need to eat something!^_^
You are on the right track.
Thom - do you know how you contracted the fungus? I googled it and you can get it from gardening - the fungus is in veggies / organic matter.
Good your back Thom. You need that eye to see your flowers so don't be too discouraged.
I did really well when I was on Atkins but when I had my first check up after losing all the weight my dr asked if I was dipping my Oreos in Crisco. My cholestorol was off the charts.
I found tracking your food is the best way to maintain the weight.
This is a great site..

Never been on a diet but the glycemic index approach (like NutriSystem) makes the most sense to me.
excerise and limiting intake is the answer.
Anything where you have to buy their food, is not worth it. You gain all the weight back once you start eating normal.
Exercise is number one. Just limiting is not as effective as choosing what you limit.
No - you don't buy food - you use the method yourself!
