Countdown to spring! One Photo per Day Part 12

very nice Patti

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

Ahh, busted. Now you know I didn't read the whole thread :)

Yes, I haven't been around much lately. Work continues to be very demanding and then I decided to return to school so time is a rare commodity indeed! But this weekend was so beautiful that I ditched both work and school and spent it in the yard :)

Your photos are beautiful as usual. Do you have the stream running yet?

South Hamilton, MA

Might as well throw in a SDB seedling, since I have been thinking irises all night.

SongsofJoy, Yes, it has been running any time it has been not frozen. I love the sound so much we decided to let in run all night too, instead of turning it off at midnight. It uses so little power. This was taken on Feb 2010. Everyone loves playing in it, no matter the weather. Thanks again for your guidance in building it. Patti

Nice sized stream!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

that's great Patti!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

What size pump motor, Patti?? HP?

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Victor this was a note to SongofJoy that I sent to her in Oct. of 2007 as to what my final list of materials would be, including the pump after a huge amount of help from her. The stream got a little longer, but basically we stuck to the plan. And we "gotter done". Still tweaking. Patti

I have started a pond-less stream and waterfall project and have followed your advice to shihtzumom (kathy). I am picking up my supplies on Thursday and will start on Monday the next phase. I have done the preliminary digging. I would relish your sage advice.

Here is my list for my 30' x 24" to 36" stream plus the collection area of 4' deep by ? (4 to 6 feet)

45 mil EPDM liner - 5' wide plus larger liner for the collection area that houses the submersible pump

Underlayment

submersible pump Proline 4800

pump house Pondmaster vault

flexible tubing (heavy duty commercial grade Flexible PVC 2" black)

waterfall basin Atlantic water-filter falls 2500

lots and lots of rocks - larger rocks in and around the stream
We took down a stone wall that I no longer wanted on the east side and moved the rocks to the west side of the house where the stream will be. When we built the 3' x 10' wall 20 years age with those same stones that where in a pile on the west side where they now are again awaiting placement in the stream. Too funny. I will order for delivery 3 tons of 1" to 2 " gravel to start with. I may need more.

plus foam sealant, hose connections, electrical exterior use cord and PVC housing for it.

2" Check Valve Assembly

I am thinking about a Heavy Duty Outdoor Digital Timer and lighting with a transformer and timer

What am I missing?

I will turn it off and pull the pump in the winter.

I am buying all this from a really nice garden center (Country Gardens in Hyannis) that has 2 very knowledgeable guys in their pond department who have built some really lovely ponds and waterfalls that I have seen on videos plus the water gardens at the nursery, but I will be doing the work with some help from my DH, I hope! Their prices seem good for a retail operation and as I will be picking up the stuff there is no shipping. Plus I like dealing with independent stores.

I was bringing the truck off island to pick up wood in Vt ( $120 vs 550 a cord here) anyway. I am excited. I hope I can ask you questions as needed as your work is amazing and inspirational. Thanks so much. Patti

Thanks, Patti. Yes, that's a relatively small pump so the operating cost must not be too bad. My pond has a 1 hp pump so the electric bill would add up. I have it on a timer and turn it off at night.

Nice color, Allison!

Love monarda, Jo.

Coffee grounds are great for everything. I use them for my JM's all the time. They bring worms that will help aerate the soil.

I love a good worm, but when the April rains start we have them all over the driveway.
I just steel myself when I walk to the mailbox.

By the way, Amsonia hubrichtii (not this one, but I have that as well) is the 2011 Perennial of the Year.

Warners, NY

Sunny and snow melting, weeds already growing faster than the garden plants, dock weed coming up in the iris, blasted root like horse radish. When DW not looking swiped a sharp kitchen knife and cut it down as far as possible, but I will be fighting it for a while.Spring on the way-I can feel it as soon as I walk out the back door. will soon have to move some daylilies and divide them, like these two siblings------------------Weedy

echi's and monarda - How tall are they Bill, give or take

South Hamilton, MA

Anyone else having the pictures come up slowly? In fact new server is slow all over. Brilliant DL. Our reds tend to be darker, but then they are older ones except for 'Pardon Me'.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

It is really hard to keep up with all the great posts on this thread. Can be quite dangerous to the budget as well. Beautiful pics of some wonderful plants and combinations. Here is an oldie but a goodie, except for last year with the rust and rain and bugs all out of control it seemed. A nice dark hollyhock that I cannot even remember getting let alone the name. It returns each year and will set seeds about that come up in similar colors but not always the same a this one.

Yes a little sluggish here too. Thought it was just me.

Its been sluggish since they did that transfere thing. I like hollyhocks, I think they are my favorite.
