Doesnt look like Liatris I know,Maybe a Veronica?
Countdown to spring! One Photo per Day Part 11
I'm shocked, Patti! I thought you knew every square inch of your garden!
Thats what I was thinking ge. veronica/speedwell.
Is it the same plant in all three shots??? Doesn't look like.
Yes that is the same plant. It blooms for a very long time 2007 it started in late June. 2008 and 2009 it started in July and bloomed into Aug. I grow both liatris or stachys hummelo which I have pictured here with the Mystery gal. I am liking Veronica idea. Nothing in my journal about one planted there, but I am easily confused. Breaking rules again, sorry. Patti
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/265387/ This is stacys hummelo. The foliage looks a bit different though. Might be a veronica although the blooms look a little chunky. Hmmm anyone else have an idea? I just love mysteries.
Ngam, I posted in my collage two pictures of Stacys hummelo, which I love. They are the two on the right. It is much shorter with as you said ,very different foliage. Good plant. Divides easily and if cut back re blooms.
Mystery plants, much to Victor's surprise, I have another one that I bought 4 years ago that I have lost the label for too. It is also pink flowering with a strong green and yellow variegated foliage. It blooms with the last of the Narcissus. Charming and unnamed. I will post a picture of it tomorrow. Patti
Saw that after I posted. Didn't think the foliage matched up well.
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/53777/ How about this? Maybe got taller because of all the rain.
Patti. Get a grip.
there are no rules.Alls fair in the persuit of plant ID
I like the comparison with the veronica picture on plant files.
Still undecided which daylily to post, finally thought of a seedling of the red---(Pardon Me X Ed Murray) X Little Grapette that has very small purple flowers, although they look larger than two inches in the photos. Another thing I have to learn, how to give some sense of scale in pictures. Little Grapette is PM's pollen parent.--------------------------Weedy
That is nice one weedy. Nice deep color.
Every time I come back to this thread, it makes me want to do more with photography in general. You guys have wonderful pictures - the quality is fantastic. This pic is a butterfly on lily 'Black Beauty'.
For deer, I spray (well, my dad comes down and sprays) about every 4-5 weeks. I read that alternating brands helps too - idea is that deer won't get used to the taste. I alternate between Liquid Fence, Bobex, and Deer Off. Really did the trick for me last year.
Aspenhill, Great shot. DH alternates the deer sprays here too. Must. The rabbits are just as bad if not worse. We have a deer fence around the main perennial gardens, but the rest is open to the critters. They sure take advantage of it. Patti
Nice dl, weedy.
Pretty roses, Jen.
Great BF shot, aspen!
What a pretty rose Jen. Even without a name it looks very happy in your garden.
Nice shot of the lily and bf aspenhill. I think I need some of those lilies. How tall does yours get? The swallowtail seems to like them very much too.
Janet that just is summer isn't it. Beautiful group of daisy shapes in all different colors, wonderful.
love that rose Jen!!.. Aspen I love my BB too... Janet I can't believe that's only 2 years.. good for you!!!
I'm in such a need for warmth...... sorry to jump ahead of schedule on the flowers folks.
Janet
What schedule?!!
Love everyone's pics today.
Weedy, that is a very cute DL flower. I love it! And just 2", too. Nice!
Patti, I think your plant is purple loosestrife (a.k.a. Lythrum salicaria). http://images.google.com/images?q=purple+loosestrife&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=AX-MS6iwPIaXtge05fH_Bg&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBkQsAQwAA
Here's another collage for today.
Karen
I hope I didn't post that one before. I call it my Spring Blues Collage.
Karen
it's ok if you did.. love them all!!!
Thanks, Allison!
Karen
Nutsfordaylily, That is it. Sadly, I have known for years that Loosestrife was a big no no. It is so much bigger than the ones that are taking over the world along every damp spot in the Northeast. Mine has never spread in the garden, but it is a goner as soon as spring comes. I think it must be one of the cultivars and I read that it could be pollinating the wild ones and will likely cause havoc in the near by in the marsh. I have no idea how it got it the garden. It has been a mystery plant since about 2005 and not in my journal. Me Bad, cause I must have planted it. No one else plants does. Patti
You can plant Veronica instead.
Patti, if you wanted to keep it, you could always make sure to deadhead it before it goes to seed. That will keep it from spreading to waterways. Best to remove it though, I guess.
Yes, that Red Fox veronica is very nice. I planted one of those last year. Pink Panther is really nice, too.
Karen
It has to go, though I was slightly shocked to see so many people in the Plant files thinking it a shame that it is now called invasive or that is some kind of evil plot.
You can't drive two feet along any damp spot in our parts and not see it now. I have driven the same roads up to Canada every summer since I was born, 1945, and I have no memory of those huge patches of it until the late 70's or early 80's. It has spread enormous amount. Patti
I see it all over here, too, Patti. There's a huge field down the street that has a lot, and I know of other areas, too. It competes aggressively with native plants.
Karen
I like the waves better than Callibricoas.
Yours is a beute.
as with coleus there is not a petunia I don't like
:)
nice one Celeste!!
Thanks Allison, it's an oldie but goodie.
sometimes those are the best!!
Yes but the bunnies at it and im not sure if it will come back or not. I have no idea how to replace it either because the place I bought it closed. :(
Good morning all, I see I am not the only one to have trouble seeping. Lots of pretty pinks this am. Pretty collage JoAnn as always, love those combos. If I needed my eyes opened that petunia would certainly do it. Very nice onewish. And such a pretty lily pixie. I do so look forward to them.
This is another pink beauty I am looking forward to if it makes it back this spring. Echinacea 'Hope"
