We've come from here if you'd like to view the wonderful bird shots on the previous thread. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1076578/
I've been partially MIA and haven't any recent shots to post so have gone to the archives.
Pied Oystercatcher.
Daily pix #290
Great shots Margaret! Love the Oystercatcher and that adorable cygnet! Thanks for starting the new thread!
From the last thread: Wonderful shots Burd and Hack!!
Fabulous shots, Margaret. I can almost see the feathers on the cygnet blowing in the breeze. The Pied Oystercatcher is a striking bird.
I've been sort of isolated to my backyard for the last two weeks so I keep getting the same visitors, which is o.k. They can still provide you with some nice images. This is another photo of one of my male Northern Cardinals ....... with some artificial snow added to the image. With 12-18 inches of snow still on the ground, I shouldn't have to manufacture any.
MargaretK - Thanks for starting the new thread. I love the orange eyes of that Oystercatcher and that cygnet is precious.
pelle - thanks for the compliment

Here's the rest of my pics from yesterday.
I have lots of Goldfinches and many appear to be more than happy to eat off the ground.
Hack
linthicum -striking photo of a male Cardinal. Wow, you guys still have that much snow. This is the second day of sunshine and the yard is starting to dry up some. I use my 4-wheeler as a power wheelchair and this morning I saw bunches of Grackles drinking from the water-filled tracks it leaves - my birdbath is pretty much being ignored.
Hack
I'm done posting pics for now. I looked outside a minute ago and saw a bevy of Grackles and Red-winged Blackbirds having their morning meal.
Every time I cracked open the door they would skedaddle, finally they must have gotten used to the door, because they remained. So, I set the 40D on its tripod and used my new Canon (with a little cable, not wireless) remote shutter release to operate the camera. That little thing is neat. I have a third-party one, but it wouldn't do the half-way function to focus. The new Canon remote operates exactly like the shutter button on the camera - love it, will be using it more now. One of the pics on the other thread was a long distance shot of a tree filled with Cedar Waxwings. I did it hand-held, but can see how it would have been better this Canon remote switch, but it only arrived in the mail yesterday, after I saw the Waxwings.
Oh, and linthicum - you really nailed that female Red-bellied Woodpecker. Fantastic shot.

Some very fantastic shots and thank you all for sharing your wonderful birds. I'm on a mission; I saw a hugemongous Belted Kingsfisher by the causeway the other day and I didn't have my Panasonic Lumix with me. So I'm setting out to shoot some pictures this fine day since it's going to be a pretty sunny day at last. Hoping to spot that hugemonguous Kingsfisher again too. (The saying is; It was a BIG one that got away ) LOL
Just to tide us over, for now; here is a male housefinch sitting pretty in our backyard.
LOL Mrs_Ed. I am hoping to seal that sweet deal with my wonderful BBs soon. Wish me well.
Margaret, (((((hugs))))) thank you for starting the new thread. It's so nice seeing you posting after a period of MIA. I'm keeping my eyes on Harmony's progress as usual. It's so wonderful to see the Ospreys family is in good term with nature.
Goodness, another new thread! Fantastic photos on that last one everybody. Such a joy to see so many beautiful birds.
Margaret, thanks for starting the new thread. What beautiful photos you have in your archives. Such clarity and colors! Hope we get to see more.
Linth, another spectacular cardinal. Love that falling snow. That close-up of the Red bellied is so clear-great capture!
Hack, great photo of the goldfinch. Looks like the grackles are lucking out with you providing the water in the tire tracks. Smart birds! Great photos of your birds, especially that robin.
Red, sweet photo of your sparrow.
Lily, nice job on the finch and that bb is just beautiful!! Good luck with that kingfisher-they're fast!
I had a surprise early yesterday morning. All this time I thought it was the squirrels that were cleaning out the seed feeder. Turns out that's not quite true. These 4 turkeys have been wandering around our neighborhood ever since they were very young. They have become used to people and we can almost walk up to them.
Wow! Turkeys at the feeder! Now that's something new!!!
Duc, that is so funny about the turkeys.
Thanks for the new thread Margaret...nice shots to see again!
Burd & Hack you both had some nice shots on the the last thread and Hack has some here on this one! I had hoped to go looking for the Horned Larks today but didn't have time. GD's are coming to stay over the weekend and I had things to do. Maybe next week. We do have yet more snow coming for monday.
I enticed the Carolina Wren to come up on the deck by the door for a brief photo shoot the other day.
Great shots Everyone!
Beautiful start Margaret...That Oystercatcher is gorgeous and the baby Cygnet is so precious ! Thanks for the new thread.
Linth..Awesome shots...I love that Cardinal in the snow.
Hack...Nice ones..you get such a nice variety in your area. I would love to see a Pine Warbler.
Red...Nice shot of the Lincoln's Sparrow.
Lily...Love your little female Bluebird...very sweet shot!
Duc...Wow on those Turkey shots...never seen them at a feeder. Gorgeous shot of the Tree Swallow.
Nanny...Really nice shots that Wren is too cute.
I have a few shots from yesterday...first up is a Carolina Wren. We have a pair that always seems to be together now.
Margaret, lovely start. I can't even imagine having archives like yours. I put some of my favorites in an album. There were something like 60. You, no doubt, have hundreds.
Nanny, I just love wrens. Those are gorgeous shots.
LaLambchop, if you've only been there a short time, 33 is great, I think. During the bird count, I only had at most 15 different species a day. I went to a park that's full of birds and only saw 26. I am quite proud that I've seen more than 80 species in my backyard which is only 6 miles from downtown Houston. It's all relative, but I think 33 is quite promising.
Duc, super cool turkey shots!
Hack, great photos. Love that pine warbler.
Lily_love, I haven't seen a house finch in a long time. I miss them so much.
Linth, I know what you mean about having just the usual birds, but really they aren't that usual and your pictures are stunning.
Pelle, I can't wait to see your migration thread. I noticed on the Texas count that some migrating birds are already here. I'm also thinking that I need to visit Tivoli, TX. Last time I looked it was the town with the greatest variety of birds in the GBBC count, and there is the coolest burrowing owl pic from Tivoli on the GBBC photo gallery.
While I was typing this Rose started posting the most gorgeous pictures. I hate going after Rose!
I get to brag now too. Gary started it! My pics aren't as good as his, but this afternoon two of my pics were added to the GBBC gallery, one of a Loggerhead Shrike and the other this Pine Warbler shot. I'm pretty excited to be included.
Congratulations Elphaba...that is a great shot of a Pine Warbler in it's habitat and I can see why it would be included in the gallery. Would you post the Loggerhead also, would love to see it!
Nanny, I love the color of your little wrens too! What a sweet looking sparrow. Great captures.
Rose, love your little wren and nuthatch. Love the straight on look of the tt and the bb is fabulous!!
Elphaba, congratulations on the photos put in the Bird Count. You have every right to brag!!
Great shots Rose! I especially love the male White-breasted Nuthatch, that's one of the best pics I've seen of them. Of course Ms. Bluebird is lovely!
Elphaba, Beautiful Pine Warbler!
