Thanks! Here's the Loggerhead Shrike. This was the only pic that I got that was clear. It was in a tree between two paths. I was on one path and a couple was passing on the other one, so the bird was very nervous. I didn't think the picture would be included because you can't see the side coloring, but maybe it's not a bird that is commonly submitted?
Daily pix #290
Ugh oh a few pics not coming up.
Edited to say: Okay now there showing.
Love the Shrike!!

reddirtretiree - I'm not sure about you being so low tech. That Coolpix P80 certainly made a really nice pic of that Lincoln's Sparrow.
Lily_love - good luck catching the humongous Belted Kingfisher. The male House Finch sure has some nice color.
ducbucln - thanks for the compliments. I've also seen Goldfinches sipping from the tire "troughs". Cool turkey pics too. I was trying to figure out which of the 4 subspecies, yours would be. I think yours is the Merriam subspecies.
nanny_56 - thanks for the compliments. Your little Carolina Wren is perfect. Nice pics. That Yellow-bellied Sapsucker you just posted is strange looking to me with the mottled back. I've never seen one, but they're in my Ga book. Does it ever have any red on its head?
dellrose - love the colors of that sweet White-breasted Nuthatch. And that female Eastern Bluebird is exceptional.
Elphaba - thanks for the compliments, I'm partial to the Pine Warbler, too. You posted a great shot of a Pine Warbler, too.
pelletory - you keep taking shots like that, you'll embarrass that poor Red-bellied Woodpecker so bad, he'll have to visit his therapist.
----------------------------
I sat outside for a short spell this evening, and saw Grackles, Red-winged Blackbirds (lots of guys, a few girls), Gold Finches, House Finches, House Sparrows and a few Pine Warblers.. Didn't snap any pics. I'll be back outside tomorrow with the 40D. I'm also going to take the Harley and cruise over to Cooper Creek Park and see what's on the lake - haven't been in a long time. The weather tomorrow is supposed to be nice - sunny, high of 68.
Hack

Canada Geese
Nanny, Nice ones of the Sapsucker!
GP, Nice yard birds!
JH, I love the Barred Owl (?), Red-shouldered and Red-tailed Hawk! The little guy is gorgeous! Congratulations!
VA, Beautiful Rs Hawk and the closeup on the Ring-billed Gull is outstanding!
Burd, Good shots of the Geese and Pigeons!
GP, that's an amazing shot of all those crows in the tree. I counted 70. The Grackles have the most fantastic iridescence.
Elphaba, congratulations on being selected for the backyard bird count gallery. Well deserved. Nice shots.
Charlie, fabulous photo of the Red-bellied Woodpecker. The Cardinals are always stunningly beautiful.
Wild Rose, both shots of the gulls are beautiful, but that close up is razor sharp.
jhowdy; the owl and the inflight shot of the hawk are wonderful.
Pelle, just how did you get the Red-bellied to pose like that? Good shot. Still looks a bit chilly there.
Nanny, you're getting some really good shots. Love the Sapsucker and the Carolina Wren.
duc, how funny about the turkeys. and you were blaming the poor little squirrels. I really covet that camera of yours.
Lily, I so hope you get to see and photograph the HUGE Belted Kingfisher. Glad you have the Bluebirds.
Good shots, Hack. You sure get a variety of birds. Good info on the remote release. I'm going to have to bite the bullet and invest in a good tripod and I'll get a remote release at the same time. Nice lighting on the Robin.
Red, your little Lincoln's Sparrow is really good.
Nice shots, Burd. It must be amazing to see such large flocks flying overhead.
A kazillion Goldfinch, eh, Rose? I've told you a hundred million times not to exaggerate! Beautiful shots. The Tufted Titmice really are heart melters.
Thanks all for your generous comments and the warm welcome. I still have nothing new, so thought I'd post an Osprey pic from just a couple of weeks after I got my camera back in 2008. This osprey is not one of the regulars, but it used to get into a particular tree on the other side of the river and was not the least bit bothered by my presence.
It was sunny and nice here today, so I went down by the river looking for hawks.
Found one!!!
Red-shouldered Hawk (I think?)
Yep!
Resin
JH, your owl shot is my dream! How did you spot him? I just love that it!
Pelle, don't know what the list is up to and I'm not counting it today! I just mark them in my book, one way for backyard and another for anywhere else. I counted the backyard birds because I was trying to save the trees in my neighborhood.
Great photos everyone. Love those crows! Can't wait for a painted bunting!
I had a Cooper's Hawk stop by this morning while I was working in the front yard. It was still a little too dark out, but I tried. This is the second time I've had a hawk pic with one of his talons in a fist. Why do they do that? He looks like he wants to punch me.
Elphaba, your shrike photo is fantastic. Again, congrats on your photo entry.
Pelle, your red-bellied is adorable. Thanks for posting these, I've always wondered where they got that name.
Nanny, great photos of the sapsucker!
GP, that's certainly a lot of crows. Spectacular photos of your dove and the gorgeous grackle. WOW
JH, that owl took my breath away. I've only heard the owls here and would fall over if I saw this one in a tree. Can you tell me the species of that gorgeous little bird in your photo-it's so precious.
WildRose, that close-up of the gull is spectacular.
Burd, I bet those geese were noisy. I love to hear them fly over our lake. Loved seeing your pigeons too!
Margaret, love your osprey photo.
Red, love that junco with the stone birds. Great one of the blues guys and that's a great new feeder.
I spent yesterday catching up on yard work so no photos, but here's some more from the turkey raid. This one was in my yard.
I just LOVE those turkey photos. The feet on the fence are just wonderful.
I have work to do today too, so no more pictures after this one (she told herself sternly). Had to share this one b/c I can't believe it. You can see all the branches that I was looking through and still got the bird and somewhat in focus. Just dumb luck.
