I hope that's the last of it, I will get some snow Pic's after while, my GH is 6ft tall, the snow is half way up it, we had more snow in the last 10 days, than we get all year, I checked the extended forecast, it calls for more, we had to dig out twice, come on Spring

Elizabeth

Kerkdriel, Netherlands

What a snow! I looks so great like a fairytale, but I know it isn't. I am just glad all the snow is gone here now and I hope it doesn't come back. Let springtime begin.
I also see my daffodils coming. No colour to see yet, but the buds are there!

Hamilton, OH

Hi Jori
It will take at least 3 days of sunshine to melt our snow it's good to see you, it's only 12 more days till march, the end of march if we are lucky our spring bulbs will start to appear, so we are getting closer

Elizabeth

Hi Jori!
Love your plant room, Doris
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Doris
that is just lovely, I love your plant room, I have a potential plant room, it's my enclosed back porch, needs a lot of work,
it makes it nice when you can just enjoy your plants

Dee
WOW sleet, that doesn't sound good at all, I watched the news this evening to get the weather report, are you sure that we don't live in Alaska
Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

I think we must be in Alaska...and no signs of letting up.I know it will be Spring again sometime..
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
just too walk outside & not have too be bundled up, will be sooo great, I was going to go out today & shovel, but just couldn't face that cold, tommorrow I will have too though, the city is great about plowing our street, but they leave this big hump, it's hard to drive over, sooo it has too be moved, so far right now they haven't called my GD's school off
so I am pretty sure she will have to go tommorrow
Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

I couldn't believe that they had school here today, but it was two hrs. delayed.I bet thats what they do again tomorrow.Be careful doing that shoveling. I know thats not easy work, and for it be cold and blowing, makes it worse...brrr
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
I will be careful, I have the right clothes too wear, my sweet neighbor's husband brought my recycle bin up from the curb for me, they are the sweetest couple, with a beautiful baby girl, I am sooo glad they moved in next door, in the summer
I help them out keeping their yard work done, I sent his mother home with a very big Frosty pink brug
Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Elizabeth, I think I am going to give my youngest daughter one of the Apricot moonflowers, and a frosty pink. I showed her some pics of different ones on line, and she said she would love to have one...of course you know who will be doing the fertilizing..lol
It's great to have good neighbors, isn't it? I have good neighbors also.Of course there's the guy that lives catty corner from us and almost a 1/2 block away, that has cook outs and pool parties, every whip stitch, but he's about our age and cranks up the old rock and roll, which I love...so that's not too bad...Kinda nice to work to, in the yard.He really is a nice guy...just young at heart, I reckon...lol
Dee

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Oh, I almost forgot, the bloom on one of my frosty pinks, is about to pop.the end of the bloom, is cracking open and you can see the tip of the flower all swirled around at the tip of it.It is still all green, but it won't be long, now
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
that's not bad, my neighbor, is an older guy, that thinks he's a teenager, listens to Rap music, I don't like that, his either wife or girlfriend is always cursing at him too get a job, instead of doing dope, they were suppose to be moving last fall I hope they do this spring, but the sweet neighbors does make a big difference, they're hard workers to be so young
Elizabeth

Hamilton, OH

Dee
that's great, you get to see a Bloom in winter Yay, I know you will post a Pic, when it's all the way open, oh that would be great too share with your DD, even though you'll be like me taking care of the plants, we love our DD's don't we
mine wants me to come over more often, when she does her garden, this year I am going to try to help her out more
just till she gets her bumper crops, then she'll know how to do it

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Thats so nice that you are able to help her out.Does she can Elizabeth? The only vegetables that I grow now, are a couple tomato plants. My husband won't even eat tomatoes, but I will..lol I usually eat more fried green ones than ripe ones, tho...mmmm...Love them. I could eat them everyday in the summer..lol
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
she does, she freezes too, I have her squash in my freezer, I pick it for her shredded it, put in the freezer, it stayed there ever since, if she don't pick it up soon, I am going too make bread out of it, her daughter is great when it come to making banana nut bread, she makes it for me, so I will return the favor, I'll make her some, are you getting flurry's right now, it's coming down like it did last night, oh I love tomato's, I can't wait to have my first fresh one

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

We are getting very light flurries right now.
I love to pick a handful of cherry tomatoes and eat them as I walk the yard!..mmm
I am getting hungry with all this talk of breads and tomatoes..There's not a whole lot that I don't like to eat.Guess thats why I am pleasingly plump..hehe But in the summertime I could just live on fresh veggies, and be very happy.
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
great minds think alike, sorry didn't mean too make you hungry, last night after we got off the puter, I went too check my plants, I had the dreaded aphids, so I spent some time, getting them off the leaves & found some more meally bugs
got them off, I took some of the leaves off, it looked like they had sawdust on them, it was the aphids, so I drowned them, soaked the leaf in water, that took care of them, it's amazing how many times I have to water now
Elizabeth

Hamilton, OH

Dee
thank you for keeping me company,I think I am going to get off here, I'll talk to you tommorrow
I am off to bed, have a good night

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Night Elizabeth.
Dee

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Good morning, and it is a good morning It is NOT snowing yet LOL The news says later today, and tomorrow.
Elizabet I hate those aphids, seems they get loaded on the leaves befor you see them, I did find something that works good , it is called Systemic Houseplant Insect Controle, it takes about 3 to 5 days to work, it is a powder and the directions are to put the powder uniformaly around the base of the plant when planting, or mixed in the soil if planted, when you water, the plant drinks up the water and kills the bugs, it recomends mixing with soil when planting seeds. I have had good luck with this, I got it from Wal-Mart.
Today I am going to move my plants around so they all get a fair share of the Snow Light, yep, can't call it daylight, as I forget what that looks like with all the fog days we have had.
You gals take care now, see you Here, or there *S*

Doris

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

Doris thank you for posting this information. Aphids and I are old enemies so I will certainly look to see if my local Wally World has it.

MollyD

Hamilton, OH

Good morning, all
Doris, since I have too go out tommorrow, I will go to walmart to get that, Thank you for posting it, I think everyone that has plants, get aphids, they get so snug, thinking I have a home for winter, well I got most of them off the other night
but that sounds so much easier, we weren't having more snow this morning, then it started again, now it has stopped Yay, I have Pic's of the stuff to download
Hi Molly, glad you could join us

Elizabeth

Poor Elizabeth.
Charleen

Hamilton, OH

Charlene
there you are, I am glad you don't have too deal with this stuff, I am glad my GH is empty right now, hey the air layering works, I did one Brug, it is starting getting roots on it, so that's what I'll be doing for cuttings, they root quicker that way than in water

Elizabeth

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

Elizabeth could you elaborate on that method (when doing brugs) for those of us who missed the discussion?

Thanks!
MollyD

Hamilton, OH

Molly
the way you air layer is to make a small cut, on the limb that you want to root, don't cut all the way through, then you cut a stryfoam cut to fit around ithe limb, then you add moistened peatmoss to the cup, then you tape the cup to make it stay on, keep it moist while the limb is rooting, mine took about 2 weeks to see nice roots forming, then when you see a bunch of roots, cut the limb from the mother plant, you have a rooted plant, I am not sure if everyone does the same thing, but this is working for me, so I will be doing more this way

Elizabeth

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

I'll have to give that a try Elizabeth! Sounds interesting!

MollyD

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Hello ladies.Congratulations Elizabeth, on your on your airlayering success.
Speaking of aphids, I finally broke down and used BayerAdvanced systemic a couple days ago. I bought it last fall, but put off using it, til I had tried everything else on the aphids.Hope it works.
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
Hi, I got some shoveling done, did you see my Pic of the white stuff, also did you see what Doris use's for aphids, have to go to Walmart to get some tommorrow, Thank you, this is my first try at air layering, now I know how much easier it is that's how I'll do all of my clippings, what I like about it there no smell, I bet you have been a busy Girl today

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Elizabeth, yes she is using a systemic.I saw a lot of dicussion about systemics, last fall on the forums.Mike and some others said that they use the bayer systemic for tree and shrubs, so I bought some. It is a liquid concentrate, and you only mix 1 tsp. with one gallon of water. I just got desperate enough to try it, the night before last.
Yes, you have more snow on the ground than we do.It hasn't snowed today, but they say we have more on the way.
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
we are expecting a big storm Sunday, Friday it's suppose to be sunny & 35 degrees, so hope some of this stuff melts
it was 32 degrees today, that's why I went out & shoveled to clean the spot my car sits, if another storm come in, then the city will plow, then I will have to shovel again, it's hard to drive over what they leave us, it's good though the street is always clean, because it's a state route

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Sounds like your weather was about like ours today.I was outside in a heavy sweatshirt, for a little while, but I always run hot..I felt like I could finally breathe. I know that you will be glad to see the snow gone, so you can be done with that durn shoveling!
Elizabeth, when you air layered your brug, how do you see the roots?Do you have to un-tape it and peek? I am going to have to try that this summer.
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
you got it girl, you take a peek, then retape it, I was amazed to how easy it was, there will be clippings, you can get a big rooted clipping, I like that, when I send clippings or trade I want them to be healthy, this way they stand a better chance of making it

Elizabeth
