Oh the shame!!

Just read yesterday that they used video of other pandas mating to get another pair in a zoo to mate and it worked.

South Hamilton, MA

Don't seem to have that trouble with dogs.

Allison,
So exciting! How many puppies do you think she'll have? are you keeping them all? how old should they be before they can start "dating"?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

my sister breeds and shows springer spaniels - her "stud" could not preform his first time on the job and one of the handlers had to come and and help out - she took some needling about champion that day.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

What was all that hoopla at the dog show with the protestors? I was watching it, turned my back and missed that part.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

deb good luck with your walks - keep that stride as long as you can and you will get down to 15 min. per/mile - hard concentrating to keep up the speed that long - keep going

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Victor I am ignoring you...EEEWWWW

Michele said the pups have to be a year old before mating... Riley's birthday was valentine's day.. it can vary how many pups they have.. usually the first time we would be lucky if she had 2... but he is very interested in her that's for sure... she still wants nothing to do with him... but I am guessing that will change in a few weeks

Michele more or less has homes with friends already... she has pups that are not born yet sold... if it were up to me alone... I would most likely keep them all... BUT... either way I love taking care of the pups... it's enjoyable work to me.. and nice that Randy and I can share the duties.. or so I think

:)

I don't think I'm ready to be a dog breeder! My sister is almost a vegetarian---she will eat fish or chicken once in awhile----only yogurt for dairy----she still has cholesterol that's 230, & a lot of dental problems---she's very thin---a size 2---works out at the gym every night & walks several miles a day. My brother is also small & very thin----eats very healthy---always exercised, but now has Parkinson's, prostate cancer, & was told yesterday he might have a blocked artery---has to have more tests on Wed. Sometimes, no matter what you do, genetics play a greater role.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

my sister had to stop being a full vegetarian.. ended up with a lot of health problems

I am so happy.. Lily & Riley were already playing .. nice too!!!... normally it takes a week or two for her to like him... maybe this will work!!!!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Thank you Allison for mentioning that. Being vegetarian does not = healthier. There are NO centenarians that are vegetarians.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

goods & bads to everything we do... can't win over death... why fight it

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks Bill. I felt it the first week of the extra mile, but now it's easy, so it won't be long. I do 17 minute miles now. I want to do 5 miles in 1 1/4 hours so I can fit it in before work in the morning.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I'd rather not be the one that contributed to making myself sick, though.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i am going at a 12 minute mile pace right now - was doing 9 minute miles a year ago - would love to walk down pass a couple older guys who were jogging - having me walk past them must have crushed them :)
my keys top going fast are:
long stride
head down
push hard off the toes (at least i do)
walk with a with a forward lean
and most importantly
can't worry about what you look like :) and hope nobody has video tape :)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

another road trip to Bill's... the next youtube star

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I don't think I could make it to 12.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I would love to be able to breed Great Danes!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

do it Ronnie.. only live once

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

If we can get rid of our Pizza shop I may think about it...my luck the labor would start on a Friday night!!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Debilu, That is great 4 miles a day. I just can't seem to keep at it but I sure did notice a difference when I was walking. I started in preparation for a trip to Austria several years ago and I was able to to a lot more walking (all up hill) than I would have if it hadn't been for the before trip workouts. But then I stopped until I wanted to get in shape for the next adventure. I have been playing with the idea of walking a half marathon. A couple of years ago after reading an article in Prevention Mag which posted some marathon dates I was thinking about going to Phila for the one they have in Nov. Never did follow though but am still thinking about it. Now my DD and SIL are planing on going so that pique my interest again. Since they run and I walk we would not be together but it did give me some incentive. I have started water aerobics easier on my knee but it is a start. You have encouraged me I must try again. HOLLY

and when you got home you would have your hands full, and not with pizza boxes.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

LOL!!

I have never heard of asiago cheese. Tomorrow is grocery shopping day. I'll pick some up.

Deb and Bill, that's so great you do all that walking! I don't regularly exercize at all and I feel it. The past three weeks I've been walking the dog about 1 1/2 miles, maybe two. It's a start.

Good luck Allison! I don't quite understand the back to back thing, but maybe I don't want to know.

Today was my first Botanical Illustration class. It's about time, too. I signed up in mid-December. It was great!!!

Oh Asiago is great. You can make some Asiago chicken just look online for a recipe or just grate some over your favorite pasta dish.
Where are you taking your Botanical Illustration class?

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Asiago is a premium quality grating cheese, it's aromatic and often used grated over bread rolls while baking also many other dishes where a mild, but full chesse aroma is desired, ...it's also very expensive! lol

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Great to hear you liked the class, Harp!

Good luck with the walking, Deb. That's great. Still have not attempted running since the shot. Lately my knee has been hurting in a different spot. Can't win!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks everyone. I started regularly last January when we had a high energy puppy. I told my husband if we walk her twice a day it would help. The very next morning he asked "are you taking Bella?". Have done it pretty much daily since then.

We started at 1 1/2 miles everyday, then 2 to 3, and for the past 2 weeks 4. Still have a high energy dog. The walks help. My husband takes her most afternoons. She's a high mileage dog.

I had been going to the gym before work, but then had 2 surgeries so had to stop for a while. So now I'm trying to do as much with walking as I can.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Asiago is one of the secrets to my heart stopping Alfredo.LOL Ric

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

It's probably one of the best grating cheeses in the world.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

you do more than me deb - when i was working the fast times were for 2 1/2 mile - here it is 3 1/2 - keep going

coming off knee surgery 10 years ago i started walking because i could not run and had to do something - was amazed that i lost weight walking like an idiot:)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

here ya go Harper

http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/breedingtie.htm

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

People seem to lose weight more successfully walking/running than doing other aerobic exercise. I much prefer running to the elliptical. Different feeling.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

"high mileage dog"....HA HA HA, Debi!! I got a great laugh out of that, now that I have 2 of them! Our girls are getting much better at walking and keeping up with us instead of sniffing or eating everything they encounter. We agree with you that 3 walks a day help with their puppy energy. I'm so happy that they are now able to do our walks with us. I keep Bailey on a very short leash and she now can walk well right by my side. Hank walks Carli and lets her have much more leash, so she is more of a wanderer than Bailey. I'm afraid I'll trip over her when she crosses in front, so I walk Bailey. I think I need to switch off and get Carli used to walking by my side. It still takes two of us to walk them though. When Karen and her Dad were here, they were still pretty haphazard in their walking, so we're making progress.

Keep up the good work, Debi! Victor - sorry to hear that your knee is still bothering you. Bill, how is your knee feeling now?

I agree with Victor about walking/running. I read somewhere that treadmills cannot match the experience of actually walking in terms of physical benefits, but I can't remember what reason was given.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Thanks Allison. Eeew.

Ric/Holly, I'm taking classes at the NY Botanical Gardens. Here's a shot from my first day. For homework, I have to finish it.

very nice Harper.. have fun with it

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Harper - I'm so excited for you that your class has finally begun! It sounds like so much fun! Please start a thread of your progress and show us what you learn. It would be interesting to a lot of us, I'm sure.
