Coffee Break #32 - Cold Days and Hot Flashes!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i use the green garden pole's made of plastic/metal that they sell at HD and come in several sizes - then as the delph is growing wrap green garden wire around them, also green - maybe two wraps total - i undo the lower ones as the delph's grow - you can not see either the pole or the wire at all except when they are first put in. works for me.

That is GORGEOUS!!!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Looks like some anti-IRS whack flew into that bldg in Texas.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

nice Bill... OMG Victor

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Beautiful delph shot Bill. That's the type of stakes I use too. Also tried the link stakes but did not like the look of them.
Unfortunately there are a lot of nutbags out there. It doesn't take much to get them going over the edge.

Just a note to any Ma people and near by states. We have an amber alert for a one year old girl taken from a gas station in Swansea. Silver Kia stationwagon with Minn. plates is suspect. For more info tune to local news channel. If you are traveling on the highways and byways keep a look out please.

Update: Good news. The little girl has been found abandoned at a convenience store in conn. Still looking for suspect.

Victor, Soy is bad for you at any age
http://www.healingdaily.com/detoxification-diet/soy.htm

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Asians eat soy in large quantities and don't seem to be suffering!

Thomaston, CT

Love delphs, but don't have much luck with them---I know they are heavy feeders---what do you put on yours, Bill----they are lovely.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I t has something to do with the processing we do here. There is a chemical in soy that is very harmful and if not cooked properly is dangerous. So in the US with our fast food processing it is not killing that checmical. Asians really don't eat as much soy as the US commericials/propaganda make them out to eat.

As my friend would say "Soy is Crap!" and it's in EVERYTHING, why is it necessary to put it in my bubble gum???

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Maybe, but there find similar sites for just about anything. And there is a paranoia about anything genetically modified. 'Frankenfood'. It's not all a corporate conspiracy to poison us. I just don't buy into those theories.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

But when something is cheap they are not considering the consequences of the affects on humans. My friend went to school for holisitic health and has done lots of studying on the effects of soy. You have to ask yourself why this sudden push on soy products when 30 yrs aog you only fed it to your livestock.

I've been drinking soy milk for years because cow's milk is made for calves not humans.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Police said 'there was no excuse' for that nut to fly into the building. Duh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I just saw that on the news.

There was a local guy here that was divorced and lost his job, picked up his 7 year old son for visitation, then texted his ex and told her he was going to kill their son then himself and she would be too late to stop him. She was too late. Very disturbing and sad.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Ugh. Similar one in Jersey. Guy threw his 3 month old off a bridge.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Awful

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes it is. I have to really make an effort to not get disgusted and depressed sometimes when I hear things like this.

South Hamilton, MA

Turns your stomach!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

deb, are you a vegetarian?

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Deb, I heard that too, years ago and stopped drinking milk altogether, which wasnt hard cause i didnt like it much anyway. However, since "the change" I have been drinking it like crazy. Someone said you crave what your body needs...maybe I need calcium....who knows.....now what about the chocolate :-)

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

No, I eat meat, I just don't like dairy.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Girls, if I may intrude? Holly has been taking a bio-estrogen for years with good results. Jen you are correct that soy is not the best source (red clover and black cohosh are better). The first we got was New Phase, then they came out with New Phase Plus (which included supplements, trace elements, and vitamins needed by women). I have since started buying Estroplus, it's easier (Care One, Giant) to find and priced more like a generic. I did a lot of research into this and hope this helps you move on in your own.
Dairy is so important in the diet, it need not be milk, can be fat free yogurt, cottage cheese, or cheese made from skim milk. They have found (accidentally) that there are enzymes in dairy products that help your metabolism burn fat naturally. Low or no-fat dairy are easy to point or count for various diet systems. Ric

Ric, you know your stuff (and your wife's stuff)! Thanks everyone for all the help on this. Now I don't feel so lost!

On the other hand, I'm depressed from these terrible news posts today!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Flaxseed is very good for menopause symptoms too, but you should grind it yourself.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Okay if my teeth grind it? I just sprinkle the whole seeds on my cereal.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Speaking of seeds looking like tics, flax seeds really do.

South Hamilton, MA

No thanks I had a tick hide under my watch last fall & had to go on antibiotics.

Tics are literally useless

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yes they do look like ticks Harper.. used to feed them to the horse for a glossy coat

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

You can get nutrients found in dairy from other food sources too.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yogurt is "pre-digested" (by the little bacteria dudes), which makes it much easier for humans to digest.

I'm up now, but tired. Should I stay up or go back to bed?

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Thanks for the info Ric.

How do you take flax? Cook it in your food like a seasoning?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I would think raw would be best.. but waiting to hear

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Good Morning Allison!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

hello there!!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I eat it raw, sprinkled on salad or cereal. I guess you could cook it too, but it never occurs to me.
