Whoa - 6-0 USA already in the first!
Sports Talk!! Part 2 - Picthers and Catchers Next Week!
alway thought calling ourselves american's was not exactly right - especially to the the other country's in the america's - i would alway say usa if asked where i was from.
great - get ready for a show down!
Wow. This USA-Finland game today, and the Canadian-Russian game were both a big, fat disappointment. High expectations for great match-ups, and pfft! Nothing. It's not that the Canadians or US *won* - the Finns and the Russians *lost*. Neither of those teams really showed up to play and it was disappointing to fans. Not to mention perplexing. Both of those teams have top-notch players. You'd never know it by watching these two games.
I thought the US-Canadian women's game was much more entertaining than either of these men's games.
Well, hopefully the Slovakia-Canadian game will be better. The Slovaks were a great surprise against Sweden!
I wonder if the players who were smoking cigars were men if there would be such a ruckus...?
I think the blowup was more the drinking and behavior in public. They could have done all that in private.
Drinking, if it was underage, then yes, that's an issue. But is the ice rink, after it closed, really "in public"? Their mistake was doing this while members of the media were still around.
Actually, I thought some of the pictures were quite touching, especially the one with the two players just laying at center ice, looking up at the ceiling. It must have really been something for them to lay on that ice, where they just won the gold medal, and soak it in, in relative peace and quiet.
(Edited for grammatical error - oops!)

Apolo was robbed. He hardly touched that guy and did not cause the fall. But I knew he would be disqualified. If he had actually pushed, the guy's butt gone toward the outside. It didn't. Instead, his inside skate just gave way.
yeah - and the canuck who won did not get "robbed" after doing about the same thing to the other guy. that's short track - ohno said it all in the interview
That is what makes all those medals Apolo Ohno has won so impressive. To be the holder of the most medals in winter olympics for USA and doing it in such an unpredictable sport like short track is really quite a feat I think.
Yes - very good point, Pat. And the Koreans definitely race as a team.
The Canadians have gotten many hometown breaks, but that always happens.

Robin, I'm more concerned about Calhoun recruiting Nate Miles & Doug Wren who were nothing but trouble than about guys who don't get much playing time.
Calhoun has more than proved he can recruit & coach. It's the cutting corners on integrity lately that bothers me.
Bill, he did great at NU but it didn't have the potential UConn had. He couldn't be the 4th biggest story in Boston. In CT he was the only story...until Geno, anyway. Yes, he is from Braintree.
Yes, Dave, good points. There have been problems on other teams, too, notably Tennessee. Guess sometimes you don't know how the players will act, but it seems UCONN has had their share.
Was going to be at the final reg season games for both Army hoops and hockey today, but they changed the start time of the basketball game to 7 due to the snow - same time as the hockey! So we'll be going to the hockey.
not so sure of one in four here dave - for bball only bc has any national recognition - it would have been great to over shadow them!
I meant Boston loves the Sox, Bruins, Pats, several college hockey teams etc more than they love any college bball. In CT, the biggest sport deal is Uconn bball, followed by the other Uconn bball team. We were ripe a big college sports program. I don't think it would have been the same in Boston.
I think our market factors were the only reason the Big East let us in when we were a doormat. (Pre-Calhoun)
The women marched on toward breaking their own record of 70 consecutive wins. They won #68 today. Every win has been by double digits
Bobsled gold! Wow - we always sucked in that. Not since '48 have we won gold.
Wow, awesome!
We tied the all-time record for total medals and we are guaranteed at least one more tomorrow.
Great Olympics for us!
Yes it has. Would be a perfect ending to beat Canada tomorrow.
dave i understood what you meant - i was surprised calhoun went to uconn when he did - at the time uconn was a complete unknown on the bball landscape - at least that is how i remembered it
What a game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't think my nerves will be able to take this overtime, lol! Wow!
Bummer! Great game by the USA though.
Congrats to Canada ! Great game. USA came out tentative, I thought. Also, in the third they seemed to not have help near the offensive net at some key times.
great game - both sides were tenative at the beginning of OT - ref should have picked up his feet they still would be playing
Really, Bill? I turned it off immediately so I did not see the replay.
USA was more than tentative - you can't win a game if you have one out of four players in the offensive zone every time the puck goes up ice! They needed to be much more aggressive.
Funny, my son has a few Canadians on his high school team. We were at a food drive the team sponsored for the local food bank earlier this afternoon, and it was fun to have the rivalry between the boys. Made things interesting.
Great game. Not the outcome I wanted, but great game!
Yes, they were out of position often, Dee. But we really cannot complain. Canada was expected to win.
It was exciting, and I'm not a hockey fan. Great to see The Night Train win---it was made here in CT, by a very small company---owner is Geoff Bodine, former NASCAR driver. Bad game for UCONN---13 point lead squandered because of over 20 turnovers.
Yes, Canada was expected to win - by the Canadians, lol! That really could have been either team's win. I'm just glad it was a great game, and not a blow-out disappointment like some of the other games.
Robin, what is the Night Train? I probably shouldn't admit this, but all that comes to mind is cheap wine, lol!
Hee hee - how would you know that, Dee?!!! ^_^
You don't want to know. Actually, you probably do. Let me rephrase. I don't want to tell, lol.
LOL! I just sat down and turned on the TV, and there was a story about the Night Train bobsled team. Now I know what it is! But now I wonder how this team came to name it this? Perhaps I have something in common with them, lol!
Robin. I was there. 22 turnovers. A last minute 2 point loss. Long drive home
Oh, how disappointing , Dave--don't think I could have taken it in person! The Night Train was so named because they couldn't get it ready in time for it's first race---only were able to get primer on it, & ship it by the night train.
Aw, Robin, that's not nearly as fun as some of the reasons I was thinking of! ;)
Heehee.
Well, at least the Uconn women rolled on! Number 69!
Yes - incredible! Has any other team in sports been so dominant?
Only John Wooden's UCLA (mens) Bruins streak of 88 straight wins before Notre Dame upset them in January 1971.
