Nice to realize, on an awful winter day like today, that baseball camps open in a week!

Just realized I should have made this the Olympics version. Oops!

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

It sounds like Lindsey Vonn has a very bad muscle contusion in one of her shins that may keep her from participating in the Olympics! I'm telling you, if I was a professional athlete I would never agree to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated. It's a curse, I tell you!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - yes it seems to be!

Just noticed I misspelled 'pitchers'. Duh!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Do you have Wha's disease?

Thomaston, CT

Am excited about the Olympics starting---hope LV can ski---she's been doing great lately.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Or you could have made it a Daytona 500 thread.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Is that a sport?? ^_^

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Jen!

Vonn is a tough girl, she will ski - she looked pretty good in the swimsuit issue - evidently some euro coach claimed she was faster because she carried "extra weight" - he will be eating his words:)

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Those euros are just jealous!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Victor, Yes I'm home. Took some time off. Didn't know kids would be home..

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Uconn men looking sad so far.
Twenty minutes until the women dismantle somebody.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Well, the men had another valient loss.Tough call with 32 seconds left and a tied score.
Women up by 30.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

What???

Go MARK MARTIN!!!!

Thomaston, CT

Yes---that call was very questionable---Boeheim had a smirk on his face! I fell asleep watching the girls---that's because I was confident they'd win!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Yeah, the boys are too hurtin'
And the girls are too good

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

it is truck day tomorrow!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

What does that mean??

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Truck Day might be mostly a Red Sox thing . . . but that's the day when the organization packs up all the equipment and starts the trip down to Florida. It's the first signal that Spring Training is on its glorious way.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Mets use mules.

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

I won't mention what the Yankees use.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Concorde.

Good Grief

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Victor,
What are they going to do about pitching??

Bill, I think the Sox have improved. Yanks may have less. Your thoughts?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Mets? Nothing! The GM needs to go - asap.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Yep equipment truck goes today. Spring is on the way!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Dave time will tell - the loss of Matsui and Damon could be huge.
I think the sox have the best pitching (starting & relieving) in baseball, and if Dice-K comes back like the reports we hear about predict it will be even better. Bat's could be a problem, lots of questions with Ortiz, Beltre, Cameron, Ellsbury, Scutaro so we shall see.

Thanks, Victor, for voicing what I've been stewing about! We could probably pitch better than what the Mets have for pitchers.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

I think the Yankee pitching will be better than last year but their offense will suffer for the loss of Damon & Matsui. If the Sox pitch as they should, you have the best starters in baseball. I think theYanks have the better bullpen but that seems to be the most volatile part of any team. We lost a big part of our edge on hitting.
Whenever did theYankees, or any team for that matter, have outfield hitting be such an afterthought? It worked last year with maybe their worst outfield in my lifetime. This year is a downgrade from last. Thank God for the infield.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i think we have a similar outfield dave - unless less drew does not get injured - naaa that will never happen.

yanks have a better closer - the rest of the staff out there does not match the sox in my opinion.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

How terrible about the guy dying at the Olympics!

Ffld County, CT(Zone 6b)

I just read about that. It's tragic. How sad to lose your life over a sport, and so young. Seems there were complaints about the safety of this track before this death.

South Hamilton, MA

Off to watch the opening ceremonies. Everyone else?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow, these poor people dancing as the athletes come in are really peetering out!

And the guys all in white remind me of the eggmen in Magical Mystery Tour!

South Hamilton, MA

Gave up on it, clever but enough is enough. Like the parade of the athletes coming early.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I loved it. I don't usually watch the opening, but this time I'm glad I did. Evidently this was a shoestring budget for the opening ceremony. Only 40 million compared to Beijing's 400 million. KD Lang performing Leonard Cohen's Halalluah was exceptional. That gal can sing!!

South Hamilton, MA

I went to bedbefore the end of the ceremony. I think the designer was very wise not to compete with china & get it all down to managable proportions.

Thomaston, CT

I just watch the sports---the rest to me is boring, & I fell asleep---never used to fall asleep on the sofa---getting old!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, I got bored quickly and stopped. How awful to watch that accident. How can they leave exposed beams like that? They are making the wall higher now. Of course someone has to die first.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Got a little dragged out in places but on the whole I liked the effects. Very imaginative use of projections and they should always have the athletes come in at the start I think. Liked the kid on the wire flying over and making the prairie appear. Also liked the native peoples emphasis.
