Nice ones Burd! I'm wondering how my Red-bellieds are because I haven't seen them. Last night during the blizzard my large Sky Cafe feeder came down so I trudged through the thigh high snow to get it filled and back up again. The other feeders are closed shut with heavy snow.So far this winter we have gotten 70 + inches of snow. I can't wait till Spring.

JH, I love the American Oystercatcher too. I see them a lot when going to Cape May. I'm hoping to get to West Florida this year for a Birding/Vacation week.

The pictures are not showing up when I click on them. Hope it gets fixed soon. Okay photos not showing up at all now.

Dave, Please keep us posted.

They are doing some work on the site so there might be some interruptions.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Boy I sure hope that is it or I have just screwed all my photos up....I will try another place and see if they post there. Thanks pelle!

Marlton, NJ

No it is them. They are going to another server so there might be problems off and on for a few days.

Some shots are now coming back up.

I'm trying to keep in touch with members in the mid-atlantic area after this blizzard. Haven't heard back from everyone so I hope you can check in soon so we know your okay.

It's amazing how bright and sunny it is here today. Some houses have had roofs collapse from the weight of this latest snow.

I just went out and fixed the bird feeders (taking all the snow off so they can open properly), I put out a 5th bar of suet along with more seed all around and on the snow. It's really hard moving around.

Mashpee, MA

Dave....my bluebirds are very happy to eat the p'nut butter , crisco and corn meal crumble that I make. I have been putting it in "their dish" since November with very good success. They see the white bucket in my hand and fly to their perches just above the deck.....very cute. I will go back to meal worms when it is warmer and the winter birds disperse.

Marlton, NJ

I talked to Dave, he went and picked up the meal worms.

This extra suet I put out is just drawing more Starlings in..sheesh!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

This winter has been soooo cold! We don't usually get snow down here, but it sure has been rough for our feathered friends. It's nice to know there are substitute feeds for the BB.

I'm amazed at these Pekin ducks and other water fowls that tolerate the cold water out there. Picture was taken today.

Nice one Lily! The Pekin ducks are so pretty!

LOL, I just found my Carolina wrens will pick at the suet feeder as well. No Starlings down here Pelle.

This is my beautiful handsome guy named Chipper. I adopted him 11 years ago when he had almost no hair and had been so abused that he was afraid of any human.

We had a rocky start, on our way home from the animal shelter, he got sick all over my lap and when we got home, he jumped out of the car so fast that he took the leash out of my hand and ran away. It was 3 days before the shelter called to say they'd found him. Again I picked him up and we've been best friends ever since. He helped my mom make it through the last days of her life and I couldn't love him more.

Late this afternoon we're taking him to our vet to be put to rest. He's been very ill for a long time and we've kept him as long as he has been comfortable. I hate this day so much.

Oh gosh duc, I'm so sorry!!! Losing pets that give us such unconditional love is so hard. My heart goes out to you.

South Hamilton, MA

so sorry--think of the good home that he had with you. All sorts of pets live shorter time than humans.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Duc...I am so sorry to hear this news...I know we have all been in this situation with our beloved pets and it is never easy. My heart and thoughts are with you and your family. The only consolation is that Chipper will no longer be sick or in pain. Take Care sweet lady.

Mayo, FL(Zone 8b)

Duc it sure sounds like you were a blessing to each other. I believe you shall meet again in a place without pain and suffering.

This afternoon proved to be pretty dreary with the weather changing for the rain that is forecast. This cardinal nearly climbed into my lap, too bad I had the ISO jacked up to capture the image. Pretty grainy, but does show a little detail. I'm very lucky to have 8-10 around the yard on most days.

I wasn't able to get any pics while being outside but here are a few through the window (we shall see if they come through).

A Mourning Dove with that lovely blue eyelid.

Yep, more picture trouble.

duc, so sorry for your loss.

Can you believe at least 8 inches of snow in Fort Worth, TX? Well, it's happened. The birds look confused & hungry. There have been lots of variety and lots of birds in the backyard today. There was even a few Goldfinches that stayed out feeding about 40 minutes later than usual.

I'll try not to post too many pics:)

Here's a precious Chipping Sparrow to start.

Great Shots Everyone!! Duc...sorry for your loss, 11 years is a long time for a dog his size, you did great for him!

Got only one shot today of a couple of Crow's. I went out to the local grainery which has a feed supply store and picked up a 50lb bag of bird food...hoping that lasts for the rest of the winter. The grainery is located in the country and driving the roads on the way there I kept seeing small flocks of birds along the sides of the roads, finally I seen some of the flocks were Snow Buntings. When I arrived at the feed store I seen a flock of about 30 bird's in the parking lot..I did'nt have a camera but I think they may be Lapland Longspur's and or Bobolink's since they may hang out together (during winter)...Saturday I will be trying to get shots of these birds. Could be 2 new ones for me.

This shot was through 2 sets of windows, I was surprised that it turned out half way decent with a little editing.

Lily, for the most part, that's a lot of what my Wrens eat. I do believe if given of option of seed vs peanut suet, they'll go to the suet.

ducbucln - My heart hurts for you. I've said a prayer that you and your loved ones will be comforted during this time of grieving.

God keep you uplifted.

I see the suet could possibly be the "breakfast of champions" a big source of energy for most birds during the winter? I noticed besides the Downy Woodpeckers whose regular visit to the suet, Whitebreasted Nuthatches will occassionally share the meals there too. It's fun watch the Nuthatches decend a tree head first, while the woodpeckers with similiar motion but always head up instead of down.

Hack, wonderful collages that you've put together to share!
Pelle's Red-tailed Hawk on the opening is very nice, then the Cooper Hawk on the hammock. Awesome!
Linth's series is out of this world! I especially like the Blue Jays and Cadinals gathering crowd. Oh yes and the BJ's hairstyle is WILD! LOL
Duc's Brewers's Blackbird calling every one ... ah just as a Mother-hen would-- I call it. I love your story telling pictures, I also love those Ca. quails. They seem to be such peaceful loving bunch! I hope your day is better today. It will surely take time....My thought is with you and yours.
Sacarvounis, nice Redbreasted Nuthatch!
Nan, nice close-up of your Northern Flicker! I saw a pair foraging on the ground one fine morning on my backyard. Then no more, they seldomly visit us here. Thus I don't understand why they were named our Statebird (?).
Redbellied Woodpeckers, hah! it seems they're everywhere. From Texas (Elphaba) to Massachussett (sacarvounis) to NJ (Pelle's) then back to me (Central Al), back to Burd-Fotos in Oh. (One just landed right out my window as I type -- but it's too shy to stay for the picture session. Hah!)
Thebestmissy, Doves at the suet Feeder with other birds; breakfast of champions anyone? Your snowstorm (from Ft. Worth Tx.) is moving our way here to Alabama -- or so I was told. Nothing yet as of now, but I too like most Northerners/birding friends am ready to bid farewell to our long and dreary winter.
Please keep those wonderful pictures coming everyone. I'm getting ready to gather some pictures together for the new post, as our thread is moving right along here. ^_^

Great snow shots missy! I got my count done and reported for today. I had 13 species reported. Not as many as in the past. Have to make a quick run to town to get peanuts so will be bacl later.

Cute little male Downy Woodpecker from a couple days back.
