I see the suet could possibly be the "breakfast of champions" a big source of energy for most birds during the winter? I noticed besides the Downy Woodpeckers whose regular visit to the suet, Whitebreasted Nuthatches will occassionally share the meals there too. It's fun watch the Nuthatches decend a tree head first, while the woodpeckers with similiar motion but always head up instead of down.

Hack, wonderful collages that you've put together to share!
Pelle's Red-tailed Hawk on the opening is very nice, then the Cooper Hawk on the hammock. Awesome!
Linth's series is out of this world! I especially like the Blue Jays and Cadinals gathering crowd. Oh yes and the BJ's hairstyle is WILD! LOL
Duc's Brewers's Blackbird calling every one ... ah just as a Mother-hen would-- I call it. I love your story telling pictures, I also love those Ca. quails. They seem to be such peaceful loving bunch! I hope your day is better today. It will surely take time....My thought is with you and yours.
Sacarvounis, nice Redbreasted Nuthatch!
Nan, nice close-up of your Northern Flicker! I saw a pair foraging on the ground one fine morning on my backyard. Then no more, they seldomly visit us here. Thus I don't understand why they were named our Statebird (?).
Redbellied Woodpeckers, hah! it seems they're everywhere. From Texas (Elphaba) to Massachussett (sacarvounis) to NJ (Pelle's) then back to me (Central Al), back to Burd-Fotos in Oh. (One just landed right out my window as I type -- but it's too shy to stay for the picture session. Hah!)
Thebestmissy, Doves at the suet Feeder with other birds; breakfast of champions anyone? Your snowstorm (from Ft. Worth Tx.) is moving our way here to Alabama -- or so I was told. Nothing yet as of now, but I too like most Northerners/birding friends am ready to bid farewell to our long and dreary winter.
Please keep those wonderful pictures coming everyone. I'm getting ready to gather some pictures together for the new post, as our thread is moving right along here. :-)
