Final update regarding Dave of Dave's Garden
So where is the new site?
Karen
Dave and Trish,
What a wonderful world you built and it was a great joy to be a part of it. Not a day went by that I did not check in at DG, even though I did not post much. I learned so much about so many topics here. It still is a great site and I will continue to be a part of it.
The future is another matter and it looks very exciting and different for both of you and those who join in. I will be one of them.
Enjoy!
Thanks for all you have done for so many.
Connie
Yes, my glass is full too!!
Dave, you are the ultimate class act, and that shows through every sentence in your post above. I'm sure we all have an empty feeling right now, as DG has become so much a part of our daily lives in many important ways. I'm also sure that you have not seen the last of us! Thanks to you and to Trish for all that you both have done to provide such a great asset for us all. You can't go wrong with so many people wishing you well and hoping you stay in our lives in one way or another. Thank you!
Louise
Dave -
No one will ever know how much Dave's Garden helped me when I needed it most. I am glad you were there for me, even though you didn't know it.
I wish you all the best in your new endeavor, and I can guarantee that I am one of those people who will be most eager to go into business with you!
Nichole
^_^
Thank you Dave and Trish! {{{{{{{{hug}}}}}}}}
I'm looking forward to learning about your new venture and wish you all the best with it. It's sure to be spectacular with your creative geniuses and your solid integrity behind it.
Dave and Trish, thank you so much for everything that you've done to make DG what it is today. I can only hope that IB has the sense to keep the community you built together.
Thank you!
Thank you Dave and Trish for everything you have done here at DG. And blessing to you and your family.
You will be missed on DG, but I am so glad we will be able to interact with you elsewhere. See you there.
Dave & Trish.. with a heavy heart I wish you guys the best of luck with what life brings you.. and wanted to thank you for all the good you have done ... the friendships & knowledge this site has brought to my desktop is unmatchable .. I am very sad the company does not have a spot for you, but hope your new endeavors are even more successful than this site.. big hugs to you and all the best
Allison
Dave and Trish - I was blinking back tears as I read your message above. I'm so sorry that your involvement with DG ended in this way. I certainly hope they've been listening better to us about what we like about this site.
Once I became a DG subscriber some years ago, I was for the first time ever, in danger of exceeding my monthly allotment of Internet time and subsequently moved up to faster and longer hours. I've made wonderful friends hear - several of whom I've had the good fortune to meet in the flesh. I certainly hope that the family that DG has become will continue, but it will be missing the guiding light at the helm.
I wish you all the best. I've been there. Not particularly active yet - probably a bit afraid of my addictive personality. But I think it has exciting potential and look forward to watching it grow.
I look forward to your posts at least from time to time, though I suspect we frequent different gardening worlds so we may not cross paths too much.
Ann
With a heavy heart, I too am here wishing you the best in your new endeavor. I am sure that there were times that you thought "what kind of monster" have I created? The long hours the small pay, the headaches and technical glitches, but you kept on, and created THE BEST GARDENING SITE ON THE NET. I came here several years ago, searching for gardening information, and took a trial subscription, and decided to stay. I have made great friends, and those friends have stood with me when my DM passed, when my DMIL passed, and through several ups and downs of life. There was always a group of people who supported you whether it be personal problems, pet heartaches, but the shining part of daves was the information found in plant files. I can't tell you the times I have gone in search of information, and finding it, got immersed in the plant files, and when I became conscious again it was hours later.
So I just wanted to thank you for the years that you have given me here, for the administrators that have done tremendous jobs, and for Trish who has been a faithful partner and wife. Anything you decide to do in the future shall surely be a success, as you have your wits about you and genuinely care for your "people". Thanks again.
Dave and Trish,
This is the post I never wanted to see.
I was not alarmed before this post.
Blessings and hugs and thank you for everything.
With much respect,
April
Dave and Trish, I wish you both all the best with everything that comes next!
Thank you Trish and Dave for being my lifeline this last year through Daves Garden. I have learned so much and met so many wonderful people all over the world.
Best wishes on your new endeavor!
Jan
Dave & Trish -
Although I am sorry to hear things turned out this way, you have every reason to be very proud of this fabulous community you have created here. As others have rightly said, you will always be the Dave of Dave's Garden.
The other site is an exciting concept that I am slowly exploring. I believe anything you put your heart into will be a success. Although we have never met, you just seem to be that kind of guy - lol.
Best of luck to you and your family and we'll be seeing you around! I still love DG and will be here as long as it remains the site with integrity that I have come to know so well...
Kelly
Thank you Dave and Trish♥
Best of luck in your new venture! I am glad to be able to be a part of both.
Thanks for all of it Dave and Trish. See ya around.
Dawn
Thank you Dave and Trish and the dozens of behind the scenes people you surrounded yourselves w/.
To introduce two people who later become Friends is rare these days.
You have introduced Thousands!
May this be a minor success when compared to your Future Endeavors.
Ric
Congratulations for having created such a unique and monumental gardening site...the best (actually the only one) of its kind on the internet. Of course, we all realize it's much more than a gardening site!
I wish you and Trish great success in your new venture; I'll be a part of both.
Memorial Day, 2006 I stumbled on a site called Dave's Garden. I had always loved plants, but killed them more often than not. I'd never joined a website where I had to actually PAY MONEY! But I could see right away that this was a site that I could easily get my money's worth very quickly from. I joined up that day and have had Dave's as my homepage ever since. I couldn't wait to tell my sister Connie about it. Within a few weeks, she too had joined up. She couldn't stand to see me having so much fun and not be a part of it.
That same year, I went to a round up in College Station on my birthday. Connie already had plans scheduled for that day so she couldn't go with me. My husband went with me because he "just didnt' know if it was such a good idea or not for me to travel hundreds of miles alone to meet strangers." And lo and behold... there was Dave himself. He was absolutely delightful and so down to earth I had to smile! I'd been telling my husband for months what neat folks these were. They immediately became like family members and took me in like a lost puppy and helped me with advice to keep my plants alive. And the people we met that day of the roundup ..... Trois, Josephine, Kipper, and so many other awesome folks... well let me tell you that my husband of few words was blown away!!! He talked all the way home about what fun he had and what fine people he met that day. He FINALLY "got it". He even helped me to plant the multitude of plants we brought home in exchange for those we'd taken.
Dave and Trish, you have set a mighty fine example of internet etiquette on this site. You built a place that anyone could come to visit and exit with a smile on their faces. Thank you so very much for KEEPING the site that way. ALL of the admins here have gone way above and beyond to keep peace and tranquility in the garden.
You will be sorely missed here at DG, that goes without saying.
I will continue here at DG as long as the integrity of the site remains. I am also delighted to be involved in the newest thing to blaze the 'net.
Thanks Dave and Trish! I love you guys!
Janet
Dear Dave and Trish, I, too, must offer my thanks for creating and nurturing such a fulfilling website. It has also been my homepage since I first found it. I am very excited, it is a concept none of us has ever seen before. I plan on maintaining my membership here at DG as long as it remains the lovely site it has always been (and I hope that is forever), but I am thrilled to be experiencing the beginning of a new era. Many blessings and much love to you both.
Brenda
p.s. My glass is FULL, too!
I have nothing to add except we love you, Dave and Trish! Thank you for all you have done for us over the years.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate what you and trish and your team has done for everyone. Everyone has said what I feel. Good Luck on the next exciting venture in your life. I wish you both the best of luck!
Dave & Trish......... nothing more need be said..................
Susan
Dave's Garden ... what an amazing website! I was pretty surprised to find out that is was basically created by one man! Are you kidding me?? And not only that ... but he personally corresponded with me to help improve my experience here! I don't know any tech support group that can offer that kind of personal attention and prompt service ... especially on the internet. Impressive to say the least! You had me at hello, Dave! :-)
This site is one of the best gardening sites on the internet. I hope that the purpose and integrity remains intact now that Dave is no longer doing on DG what he does best ... making people smile and enabling them to expand their minds by learning new things and meet new people ...
Thank you for caring about each of us through the tireless work you have done here on DG and all the work you continue to do! No words can express how much I appreciate it!
Even in your humble farewell, you are challenging us to keep learning and moving forward. Most of us will! I, for one, will be here. Thank you Dave and Trish for creating yet another amazing and unique website community to hang out in! I'm excited to see how the new site develops and matures! I suspect it will be like fine wine ... getting better and better with age! :-)
Progress can sometimes be painful. Thank you for pressing forward despite this bump in the road!
As the saying goes ... when one door closes, another one opens! :-)
Wishing you, Trish, and your family the very best that life has to offer!
~Becky~
I can't say anything that hasn't already been said. It is the saddest moment in the history of Dave's Garden. With Dave gone I will never refer to this site again as Dave's Garden, for without Dave it isn't Dave's Garden any longer. From this time forward I will only refer to this site as DG. I will, in all likelihood, renew my subscription one more time, but only as a tribute to Dave and Trish, so that something they created and put so much of themselves into will not shrivel and die.
Dan
Must be amazing to start with a bunch of software code and see it morph into a place where strangers are not only welcomed, but where they become family before your very eyes. It's truly a gift that will keep giving for many, many years. Thank you, Dave & Trish.
Ditto :) I've been silent through the whole transition but now that you've posted a "final update" I felt I had to stop lurking and express my thanks. I remember when I first found DG, numerous searches for plant information kept leading me to PF and I wondered, "what is this place they call DG?" The site has grown so much since I first subscribed that I have a hard time keeping up with everything! I share the sentiments of everyone who considers DG their "home" and those you're leaving will always appreciate the "family" you've created. This is not "one of the best gardening sites on the internet" - it IS the best and I'm hopeful IB will be fortunate enough to keep it that way! I'm truly saddened to read your farewell but wish you and Trish the best of luck in your new venture. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything Your Garden has given me through the years :)
Now...about that book? "If I start naming names and telling stories, I'd be writing for hours and I'd need to find a publisher to just print it for everyone. :)" I think you'd better start looking for a publisher! LOL The stories you could tell... :)
Ditto to what Becky, Dan & RCN just said.
Edited to add RCN, we had crossposted...

May you always have work for your hands to do.
May your pockets hold always a coin or two.
May the sun shine bright on your windowpane.
May the rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near you.
And may God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.

Dear Dave and Trish,
As someone said before , Dave will always be the Dave from Dave's Garden. I didn't meet you and it wouldn't have been so easy to do it, as being from a country so far away from US, but I feel like I have known you for ages...same as I feel about all my DG friends.
I could tell you a lot about how I feel about DG and how it changed my life, but I will just tell you THANK YOU for being what you are and for creating this unique website which gathered so many wonderful people. I am so grateful you and DG came into my life! Now I'm crying too...see you soon on your new website! I'm sure you will do a great job there too!
Hugs,
Adina
Well maybe God closed a door but he sure opened all the windows..... and it's really, really nice out there! I have a feeling this is going to be good!!!!
Dave and Trish, My gratitude for your wonderful Garden site is boundless. Aside from the garden gleanings, I have found wisdom, aid and support for many personal needs, both major and minor, by those who so happily haunt your site. I am indebted to you. May your future project be fruitful and may it hopefully be a new spot for us all to come visit, or do as many of us have with Dave's garden, move in as full time residents. My best to you both, and may there be no weeds in your future. Patti
Thanks Dave & Trish.
Always an adventure to move on to new things. I know your own farm & family will always be first in your life.
The happiest day in my life was when I was able to devote all my energy to my farm & not having to answer to anyone.
I will see you in your new adventure.
Also hope to bump into you at one of the Round Up's someday.
Bernie
Patti, I struggled for the words to express my gratitude this morning - you have so eloquently stated what I tried to say :)
Wow, what a tribute to both of you!! I've only been a member for a few years, however, the pleasure this site has given me is tremendous and, through reading the posts, I've sensed a genuine closeness that is rare, especially in this cyberspace. Will have to check out the other site.
Dave and Trish~~
Like everyone else, Dave's Garden is/was a very very important part of my life in the past seven years, and I will always be in deep gratitude to you for that.
And my heart sank with the news that you will no longer be in charge. But I know you two will be a huge success at whatever you choose to do now. (And I wonder what that will be??!~~)
And regardless of everything else, PLEASE post often on the threads! (I know we will all be delighted to help you with your gardening issues!)
My very best wishes to both of you and the family! Judy
See, Dave didn't really go away. He started a new voting booth thread today.
Life does go on!
Bernie
Actually, I didn't start that, the system did. My username is all over the site and it'll take the IB developers some time to migrate all those things over to post with a different username.
