Hi, gang! So many beautiful pictures! Gee, I am touched you were thinking of me. After much deliberation on my part, (Mom got ready for the storm by boiling two eggs in case the power goes out LOL ) I tried to make sure Mom was set up well and let her stay at her house and trust her neighbors to kick in if help needed. As soon as we can move, we'll get up there and finish shoveling. I put some mag salt on her walks and drive before the snow but obviously that was spittin in the ocean. Maybe its under there now helping keep the melt flowing.
We never lost power or saw much wind durign the storm. Our measurement was 27 inches. We're close enoguh to BWI so whatever they say is official, we'll go with. It's beautiful out this morning, crystal clear air with no car exhaust!!!!!! No airplane noise or far off highway drone!!!!! Our dev-mt has had some kind of plow visit but the courts are untouched so far. We took a 'hike' last night after dinner, someone had broken a footpath to the end of the court where the plow had packed the street. It sure is hard to walk in this, even with a trail broken. Lose your balance and poof! and the hysterical giggling with family teasing you makes it hard to get up!.
Pam so glad your neighbor will help. And glad we haven't heard of anyone here having too much real trouble. I wonder if ladygardener has made a little effigy garden bed and been sticking voodoo snow needles into it? I think our winter has been snowier than hers this year!!
Two vehicles are at the street end of drive and cleared. Can't do much more till the plow shows up. Lots of us will be watching the Bowl in our own houses rather than making it to any parties, if the either are any distance from plowed roads.
Snowmageddeon 2010!
Glad everyone is checking in safe and sound thus far!
Hubby cleaned off our truck and our parking space...
We may venture out for the first time later today... we'll see!
Go easy on the shoveling... take breaks and drink plenty of water!
LOL Sally you figured it out, it's all my fault.
Last year when I was posting all my snow storm pictures a lot of you commented on how wonderful it was and wished you would get snow.I just wanted to share, I'm not a selfish person. In fact you can have all my snow. LOL
The biggest snow we had was between Christmas and New Years 2009,since then we have been getting enough to make driving troublesome when going to or from work. Then it melts off on the roads and all is well. The snow on the ground is still here, it just gets a fresh coat now and then.
I really like all the pictures, thanks all for sharing.
Stormy,
If we had a second car, that would definitely be an excellent idea. Living in Florida for 25 years and two winters here with lovely, gentle snowfalls that melted the next day gave us false expectations. Real boots and authentic winter jackets are definitely on our must have list now. I do have a 'heater cat' on my lap right now, the sun is shining, DH is watching the pre-game show, and there's lasagna for dinner, so it's all good. Stay warm and safe everyone.
Pam
Sounds great Pam!!
Lady, Oh you do that voodoo that you do so well!
Great Pix of the little guy Jen! So glad you found a hill.
Strange- we measured 27 inches and BWI reported about the same, nearby. But also very near us is Severn. Crofton, Columbia, Elkridge, Pasadena--with reports into the 30 and above inches!!!! have to leave it at--its a heck of a lot of snow. Hubby did not feel we should try to exit our neighborhood today with the chance of getting stuck in the path and messing up others.
Good Call. I can't believe the Philly airport came in at 29". Many areas in Pa got more than 30". Boy, for us, they really called this wrong. They predicted 6 to 12 " here. We were all worried about you all.
My yard has turned into a maze of trenches to accomodate my dog or to get wood for the fireplace which is helping right now...Yesterday I surveyed my yard and I have a lots of damage on my 35+feet holly. My corkscrew willow looks like it might be uprooted because the yard has been so wet for so long plus the weight of the snow . That was one of my favoreite tree that i grew from one branch. I released my witch hazel from its white freezing prison it might bloom after all . Snow casualties plenty of those ....Otherwise it is beautiful but we could all have do well with a lot less of the white stuff.

Qwilter... that's quite a sight from your upstairs window!
Can we please NOT mention the 6 more inches coming tomorrow????
I don't think I can take anymore!
CALGON, TAKE ME AWAY!!!!!!!!!
I keep wondering why I rent the house in FL & live up here!!!! I'd be much happier, the other way around.
Oh, yea, the job is up here!!!!
They're are calling for another foot here!

Yes ma'am! I have a sapling oak tree that planted itself several years ago in a really good spot. It's now at 45 degrees and I guess its uprooting too. Oh well- it was free. I had another last year that got half eaten at the soil line by voles.
Sorry about the many $$ loses there will be. My van Houtte spirea is a big smush but it'll live. Might even benefit from me getting in the middle for a good thinning.
This just may be all that was needed to get Holly to allow me to make a topiary out of her over grown blue princess holly. I'm sure we'll have a lot of damage to our juniper border, I'm just hoping for minimal damage to my yew hedge, yew can be very resilient and tough.Holly and Josh went out yesterday and came home with a broken brake line torn on roadside ice. While they picked up parts on the way home, I shovelled the 35-40' drive to the barn so we could repair it. Her Outback is buried at a local garage for exhaust repairs, so not repairing the Explorer was not an option. Ric
Yuck, Ric. It's always something, and weather like this is no time to have a car in need of repair. I write that as I still haven't gotten around to new tires.
Guess, I'll go out and check on the evergreens.
Orchid, I LOVE those wind chimes. When they're paroled, you'll have to post them on the Garden Objects thread.
Quilter, I have those hugh icecicles all around my doors and have to keep looking up every time I go in and out. Oh come on, this is more exciting than being in sunny Fla!
Okey - I'm finally over the joy of winter...as y'all know I'm a die-hard snow-lover...now, not so much - it was fun the first couple of times....now I'm over it and seeing the warning in effect for tomorrow...arghhhhhhhhhh
I have family coming from Norway on Friday and need my car so I can pick them up at airport...DH's Mustang is covered in a mound of ice...it better melt by then -
Bec, Don't hold your breath! LOL I love winter too. I can work from home, so I don't have to deal with the commuting issues. I am still enjoying this.
When they are free I will post them . In the meantime the only sound in my garden is going to be the hushed sound of the water in the pond ....
Gosh--hubby had to go report to the office today, and brought some stuff home for more work from home. Then we got all the kids in with us and drove ten minutes to his mom's apt. house. Glad to see it got plowed but the roads were worse than I expected. Many very busy roads still have partial lanes, lots of slush and icy , ruts for driving between solid bands of packed snow in the road.. Must stay alert to avoid getting squeezed by a disappearing lane. We got a few items for her and her friend and ourselves;the grocery was not that busy, bread going fast but most other things well stocked. We go to see my mom tomorrow before the next storm. Her road finally saw a plow this afternoon so I think we'll be able to park and walk in with some groceries and shovels of course. Then back to hunker down for tues night thru Wed... BWI airport still not running all runways.
These are the times that try men's souls!
Oh, I just got done looking at all the pics. WOW those are some beautiful pictures. Hold tight for the next round. LOL Holly
Well, it isn't boring!!
Bec! Didn't you make some sly comment back in December about how "we" don't know what real snow is arond here???? Well???? Do "we" know real snow now????? Have you had enough yet... hhmmmmm?????
;o)
I heard the roof on the Safeway on Rt 3 in Crofton collapsed from the weight of the snow. I've not heard any of the other stores in there have had a problem.
My Evergreens are taking a hit. I haven't even tried knocking the snow off most of them. You can barely get to them and if you knock the top snow down it just lays on the lower branches.

Hope to heaven nobody got trapped!
and more predicted-- that could be bad.
The Quiznos guy we stopped at yesterday said not only did he lose three days of business-
he pays 1,500 $ every time he gets his lot plowed!!!!! Just a sub shop--imagine the big stores and malls. This is really hammering the small business people. But, I think for 1,500 I would have a cot in my store and a snowblower.
Sally, Does your Quizno's have a 2 acre parking lot?LOL Ric
Sallyg; You are concerned about your shrubberies who wouldnt , we put so much love in our gardens. , I released the witch hazel from its white doom but I cannot do a thing about my holly tree which is about 30+ feet. I see already a lots of damage, small and large branches that are broken at the top, after the next snow we will see. my willow is uprooted and laying on its side...A lots of people are going to be hurting from all this snow specialy businesses...Except Lowes, HD and Benhkes who are going to do a killing come spring.... . My holly in december after the first snow
Yeah... I'm sure wishing I'd left the christmas lights wound round 'n round my skypencil hollies! Hopefully none of the 3 will have their tops broken out.
Snow days all week, I bet... kids are gonna be in school until July! ;-]
I was looking at the Washington Post the other day and saw a church had completely collapsed, not just the roof.
JFleming, nice to see you back!!
That plowing fee is downright extortion.
I forgot to mention that Hart was without power for 3 days.
Orchidfancy, I just love that Holly Tree, I have always wanted one. My parents bought me a Holly years ago but it isn't the Tree Form. Well that Holly is looking pretty rough right now Ric is planing to hack it into Topiary submission this summer. LOL The Holly Hedge out back is looking OK it's not very big or full yet so I haven't noticed much if any damage there. I'm really worried about the Juniper hedge that is huge also and at least it will grow back and fill in. It weathered the last storm with only a few minor breaks.
I stuck a yardstick out on the back deck, but I think we've only had about an inch of additional accumulation so far. It's been snowing on & off since noon.
